Swayambhunath Temple or also call as "Monkey Temple", overlooks most parts of the valley giving visitors a panoramic view of the city. The stupa has stood as a hallmark of faith and harmony for centuries with Hindu temples and deities incorporated in this Buddhist site. The glory of Kathmandu Valley is said to have started from this point. Resting on a hillock 3 km west of Kathmandu, Swayambhu is one of the holiest Buddhist Stupas in Nepal. The entire structure of the Stupa is deeply symbolic: the whitewashed dome is the earth, the pair of eyes are Buddha’s eyes, and the nose-like structure actually represents unity. The 13-tiered-gilded tower represents the 13 stages to Nirvana. It’s so peaceful and magical up here. You’ll see the lower dome, embellished with chains of prayer wheels, embossed with the sacred mantra om mani padme hum (‘hail to the jewel in the lotus’). Pilgrims circuiting the Stupa spin each one as they pass by. Fluttering above the Stupa are thousands of prayer flags, with similar mantras, which are said to be carried to heaven by the Wind Horse. Set in ornate plinths around the base of the Stupa are statues representing the five Dhyani Buddhas – Vairocana, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi and Aksobhya – and their consorts. These deities represent the five qualities of Buddhist wisdom. The five different colours on the prayer flags also mean different things. The blue colour represents the sky, white signifies the air, red is fire, green is water, and yellow is earth. Each flag is printed with a different mantra to spread positive energy with the wind, and it’s also believed that prayer flags are never meant to touch the earth. Up here, you can also see a few other religious monuments, sites and shrines such as the Swayambhunath Buddhist Museum and World Peace Pond, with its beautiful statue of a Buddha holding a cauldron. The road is relatively flat in the morning, but all uphill in the afternoon. The whole journey takes about 5-6 hours. We had breakfast at 7:45am and set off at 8:30am! In the morning we will shuttle back and forth between the two banks of the Dudh Koshi River. Dhud koshi means milk river, as the name suggests the river water is the color of milk. Behind the river is the ancient peak of Thamserku, which is 6608m above sea level. We had lunch in the small town of Monjo at around 11 o'clock. We will pass several suspension bridges along the way, including the most famous double suspension bridge. Below is the old suspension bridge, which has been out of use for many years. The new suspension bridge above is named after Hillary, the first New Zealander to reach the summit of Mount Everest. After crossing the Hillary Suspension Bridge, it was a two-hour uphill journey. From Monjo (2855m) to Namche (3440m), it is already a higher altitude area, and we all climbed at a fast speed. Walk slower and your breathing will flow more smoothly. If you hadn't seen it with your own eyes, it would be hard to believe that in this era there were still villages and towns in the mountains that relied on human and animal labor for transportation. There are no roads, so everything from a roll of toilet paper to wooden boards for building a house has to be carried up the mountain by human and animal power over several days. Cherish any supplies on the mountain, they are really hard to come by... After 2 hours of slow climbing, we reached Namche Bazaar at 2:30 pm. Namche is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains. As long as the weather is good, you can see snow-capped mountains above your head. Namche is the largest town in the mountains and also a mountain paradise for tourists! There are hiking supplies stores, souvenir shops, currency exchange shops, coffee shops, and bars! In the afternoon, we all went to the cafe to chill ~ Of course, we also visited the souvenir shop. 📅 Itinerary Day 1: Arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal from Bangladesh 🇧🇩✈️. Cleared immigration smoothly and checked into a hotel in Thamel. Spent the day exploring the vibrant streets, trying local street food, and adjusting to the city vibe. Day 2: Took a thrilling cable car ride to Chandragiri Hill ⛰️ with stunning views of the valley and distant Himalayan peaks. Returned to Thamel and prepared for the next day’s journey. Day 3: Visited the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square and spiritual Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple). In the afternoon, took a tourist bus to Pokhara, and checked in to a hotel in the Lakeside area. Day 4: Adrenaline day! Went paragliding from Sarangkot, flying over 7000 ft above Pokhara 🪂. Later, completed a bungee jump — a lifetime experience of fear, freedom, and excitement! 😱✅ Day 5: Sightseeing day around Pokhara: visited the peaceful World Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere along Phewa Lake. Day 6: Took a domestic flight (PKR → KTM) back to Kathmandu. Did some last-minute shopping in Thamel and soaked in the final night of the trip.
