Island Hopping Art Tour | Artistic Landscapes of the Seto Inland Sea. Megijima

Because of the legend of Momotaro, the island of Woki is known as the island of ghosts.
But Wokijima’s art is more compelling. Among the numerous small islands in the Seto Inland Sea, she was one of the first islands to participate in the art festival.
A 20-minute flight from Takamatsu Port will take you to Ogishima. Woki Island is small in size, with artwork concentrated near the pier, and another one is the Ghost Island Great Cave on the top of the hill.
As soon as they get off the boat and arrive at the Information Center, the staff instructs visitors that they can choose to take a bus to the Great Cave, or rent an electric bicycle to get there. The rent for four hours is 700 yen. In comparison, cycling around the island to enjoy the art should be more enjoyable!
Because the large caves of Woki Island are on the mountain, riding electric bicycles will encounter uphill and downhill situations, the art festival staff will have to teach renters how to use it, and there is a chance to encounter a bus on the way!
It feels so cool to enjoy the art and scenery on a bike!
Looking at the map and cycling in search of art scattered around the island is like playing “art orienteering”, searching in the narrow alleys! No matter how you search, there is one object that you often see, that is the ghost doll stone statue, because this is a ghost island!
Right on the dock there were already two interesting installations, one was the birds and seagulls I liked, standing in a row, but they were fake. Interestingly, later I saw a group of real seagulls at the pier of Ogijima.
Next to the seagull installation is a "Reminiscence of the 20th Century", with a black piano sailboat playing classical music, symbolizing the beginning of civilization opened by mankind's entry into the Age of Discovery.
After seeing the art work near the pier, we started pedaling to the mountains in search of the big caves, although it was an electric bike, but you still had to pedal hard towards the mountain!
Usually untraveled roads, always a little eager to get there soon, and always wondering why not arrived yet, turning circle after circle, finally see the bus terminal and bicycle dock.
After parking your bike, you have to walk up a steep stone step. The courteous islanders have set up a series of homemade hiking battles at the bus terminal for visitors to borrow.
The Great Cave is an important attraction on the famous female island of Momotaro's legend, and Japanese rural historians discovered the cave in 1914 and determined that the ghosts in Momotaro's legend used it as a base. There are many ghost stories and ghost dolls narrated by Momotaro in the cave. It is nothing to see a doll in the dark and shady cave. Suddenly seeing a human-shaped paper version among a bunch of ghost dolls is the scariest thing!
Leaving the cave, there are signs pointing to the observation deck, walking up is the second high point of Ogijima, the 188-meter-high observation deck, where you can overlook the entire Seto Inland Sea 360 scenery, if the blue sky and white clouds are high visibility, the scenery must be extremely beautiful.
Leaving the mountain, step back to the bottom of the mountain, near the pier there is a beach, the Japanese call the bathing beach, near the beach there is a row of shops should be entertaining trendy people, should be very lively here, unfortunately also quiet, look at the day is September 1st, maybe school day!
After seeing the artwork on Nemiki Island, it was time to return, taking advantage of the time, decided to ride an electric bicycle around the island to see the scenery, after a circle of Nemiki Island, still the same tranquility and broken. Old houses are everywhere and sparsely populated, and Nvmu Island exudes a sense of loneliness. Occasionally, I see two or three grandmothers passing by, and there are actually 20 people living on this island. The art festival seems to have only brought some passers-by to Nvmu Island, and the whole island remains as silent as if time has stopped.
