There's so much I love about Copenhagen that putting it all together at once seems like a daunting task. So, I'll take a little shortcut and start by introducing Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city, which is only about a 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen. Malmö's city center isn't actually that big; you can easily stroll through the entire city at a leisurely pace in about a day. Here, you'll find 14th-century brick Gothic architecture alongside lush, expansive parks. You can take a casual walk through the old town and make your way to the striking, modern Malmö City Library. And of course, since you're in Sweden, don't forget to treat yourself to a classic plate of Swedish meatballs. If you're someone who enjoys wandering aimlessly and soaking in the everyday vibe of a city, I highly recommend setting aside a day for this little cross-border getaway. This is the perfect spot to catch those awkwardly timed "early morning" kick-offs from the Americas (which will be evening in Denmark, but with a beachy vibe). I settled into a rustic, open-air beach bar—a simple wooden structure with a sand-covered floor and a large patio heater. I ordered Rødspættefilet—delicate, golden-brown fillets of fried plaice (a type of flounder), served with a lemon wedge and a side of remoulade, paired with an ice-cold wheat beer. As the sun began to set over the Øresund Strait, casting a golden glow on the white sand and the distant silhouette of the Øresund Bridge, the World Cup match flickered to life on a large, weatherproof screen. The air was cool and salty. Families strolled past, kitesurfers packed up their gear, and a few dedicated fans nursed beers and watched the game. One of the most special experiences of this Nordic tour is taking an overnight train from Copenhagen to Stockholm via Malmö. It’s actually very convenient to get to Malmö from Copenhagen Central Station in about 40 minutes or so. Then transfer to the SJ night train at night, sleep and then arrive in the center of Stockholm the next morning, for those who don't want to catch a flight and want to save money on a hotel for a night, it's quite worth trying. This time my friend and I directly booked a 3-person compartment, however only the two of us were actually staying, so the space was more comfortable than expected. On average, it costs about HK$700 per person, including transportation and overnight accommodation, which I think is quite reasonable for Nordic prices. Before getting in the car I was actually a little worried if it would be old or unclean, but after entering the cabin it felt quite surprising. Although the cabin is small, the design is quite practical, with three beds, upper, middle and lower, with pillows, duvets, hangers and small storage space, which can fit two large suitcases. The overall maintenance is good and the environment is cleaner than expected. In terms of amenities, each truck has a separate washroom, while the bathrooms are shared. When I woke up in the morning I had a look and both the washroom and bathroom were kept quite clean and the basic supplies were complete. This level of hygiene is quite good for a long overnight train. After a night drive, the train travels all the way north from southern Sweden. The train wobbles a little as it moves, but instead it feels like a sleeping cradle and I slept quite well myself. When I woke up the next morning, I opened the curtains and saw the scenery of the Swedish countryside slowly moving backwards, which felt completely different from flying, more of a travel flavor. If it were purely for speed comparison, the plane would certainly be faster. But including getting to the airport, security check, waiting and transportation time, it may not be too far apart. Most importantly, the night train goes directly from the city center to the city center, wakes up and arrives at your destination, the whole thing is really much easier. Since it happens to be cherry blossom season, how could I not scout out some great spots for flower viewing? I stumbled upon a place called Vattenpark online, and without a second thought, I hopped on an early train to check it out! Although the flowers haven't reached full bloom yet (Pic 2), those clusters of soft pink petals look absolutely stunning against the clear blue sky (Pics 1, 3)! The trees are bursting with pink buds ready to pop (Pic 4), and the gentle morning sunlight instantly washed away all the exhaustion of my early train ride. Plus, it's incredibly accessible and convenient, located right near Hyllie Station. Just a few steps out of the station and you're surrounded by the vibes of spring (Pic 5)! After admiring the blossoms and snapping some perfect photos, you can easily head over to the visually striking, avant-garde Emporia mall (Pic 6) and the famous Malmö Arena (Pic 7) right next door. This trip really wouldn't be complete without a visit to IKEA! Since we were already in Malmö, we had to see what was different about the IKEA in its birthplace! After walking around, the conclusion was: the global IKEA DNA is incredibly strong. Whether it's the classic blue and yellow exterior (Figure 1), the towering, massive warehouse area (Figure 2), or the iconic red shelf numbers (Figure 3), it's basically exactly the same as the ones we usually shop at. The only difference is that the signage is in Swedish, which we can't understand! However! The highlight was definitely their restaurant (Figures 4-5). It turns out that the food at IKEA in its birthplace is indeed quite delicious, and it didn't disappoint at all! 🍽️ Must-try highlights at Swedish IKEA (Figure 6): 🇸🇪 Soul of Swedish Meatballs: Of course, you have to order a plate of these! The meatballs were firm and juicy, paired with a signature brown sauce, creamy mashed potatoes, and sweet and sour cranberry sauce—the flavor was even more authentic and richer than what I've had abroad! 🇸🇪 Extra-Plenty Seafood Salad: The ingredients from the source were truly generous! Who understands! The moment I opened the floor-to-ceiling window of the hotel in Stockholm, I was instantly healed. Then we noticed a bunch of fellow tourists casually strolling inside, even though the main door looked kinda closed. Cue massive FOMO 😅, so we double-checked the signs and discovered the side entrances were open. Of course we had to sneak in! Inside = whole new level. There were so many people just staring at the epic design (us included 🙋🏻♀️). St Peter’s Church was built way back in the 14th century, so it’s legit ancient. #viana’sjourney After reaching Conpehagen, I took a train from the same airport to Malmo, about 30 minutes ride, I arrive at this small town which were so calm. First thing I noticed was, there’s a lot of Arab’s restaurant and stall over here, easy for fellow muslim to find halal food. I visited Pildammsprken (leisure park) and the sauna house (both male and female can share the sauna place and many were fully without clothing, dont be surprise). Not to forget around the city where they have some big churches, (very elegant looking building everywhere). But, if you plan to visit, spring are the best time, you can see the canola flowers bloom in Skane and it’s definitely mesmerizing!

I took a ferry from Rostock Germany to trelleborg Sweden arriving in central station Malmo, I booked a single room at moment hotels conveniently right opposite the station which was ideal as it was late , check in was easy and friendly too! The hotel it’s self was very Swedish ikea looking and modern , clean , bright and very affordable . I was only staying one night but I did check out the centre of Malmo , great shops and restaurants and managed to find a H&M in the square …. Would definitely recommend this hotel if in Malmo👍👍

It was towards the end of Septemper and last Fall before Covid happened and cities started locking down. I had the privilege to have the chance to visit this quaint and charming Scandinavian town at the southern tip, connecting Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark via the Oresund, the city of Malmo. In contrast to the more tourist frequented capital, Stockholm with it bright colored and upbeat atmosphere, the mood in Malmo was very relaxed. The old town had a bohemian vibe, with its cobbled stone streets, red brick churches and fortress and houses. The open air plaza with its array of shops and markets, as well as restaurants and bars also added to the more carefree mood, made more possible by the foliage and the temperate weather perfect for the outdoors brought by the Autumn breeze. #fallingforfall

such a beautiful chilled out place, a lot to see and do with amazing food and bars. a slower pace of life is definitely appreciated in a city like this and is so refreshing compared to normal life back here at home. I would recommend everyone to go at least once and make sure you take a walk along the river and around the coast at night. don’t try the salted liquorice though 😝#sweden #malmo

#bucketlistreboot Take a trip to Malmö, Sweden. Did you know you can go from Copenhagen to Malmö in Sweden in less than an hour? Yes, you can get the train from København H (Copenhagen Central Station) which is every 20 minutes and the travel time is only 35 minutes to the centre of Malmö. Nice and easy! This way, you also get to see/be on Øresund Bridge – a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden. Basically one country wanted a bridge and the other wanted a tunnel, so they made the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe (nearly 8km long). #passionpassport #copenhagen #malmo #denmark
