The most beautiful bookstore in the world - Paradise Bookstore
Paradise Bookstore was transformed from a church. The original main altar of the church is now a coffee shop. The large coffee table in the middle is in the shape of a cross, and candles are lit around the seats, which is full of sacred atmosphere.
Bookstore in the vaults of a medieval church!
Imagine walking into a medieval church and instead of the usual thing, you ended up surrounded by thousands of books in Dutch and English, well this is the Dominicanen bookshop in the heart of Maastricht in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Well, this became one of my favorite bookshops that I visited in 2019 during that trip to Europe and it has been in my memory ever since, so I recommend it to anyone who is visiting the city.
Address: Dominicanerkerkstraat 1, 6211 CZ Maastricht, Netherlands

Maastricht: oldest city in Holland
Some people say Nijmegen is the oldest city in Holland, others say its Maastricht. Regardless of that, everyone agrees Maastricht is the most beautiful place in the Netherlands. If you're in Holland you really should pay a visit.
Walking through the small but cozy city centre you almost don't know where to look. There are old buildings everywhere, bridges, churches, cathedrals and the old city walls that used to protect the city.
The Vrijthof square is a favourite location to sit outside with a drink at one of the many bars and just watch the day go by. While you're there have a look inside the 800 year old St Servaas cathedral.
When it comes to food, you will be spoilt for choice, especially for restaurants with a strong French influence. One great place is Harry's near the central train station, which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

I have to say, this Maastricht hotel is incredibly convenient and comfortable.
As soon as I entered the hotel lobby, I was captivated by its spacious and bright ambiance. The lobby's elegant decor, with its gold and black accents, exudes a regal and sophisticated atmosphere.
I opted for a deluxe room, which was well-appointed and tastefully decorated. The bed was exceptionally soft and comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep.
The most memorable aspect of my stay was the hotel's impeccable service. Every staff member, from the front desk to housekeeping, greeted guests with a warm smile and provided attentive and thoughtful service.
Popular
This is a popular eatery with a mix of tourists and locals. There are many customers inside so i and my friends decide to sit outside. A man who took our order was so nice! When he saw there was an empty table inside he came and asked if we wanted to change
The food and coffee are great! Eggs, bread, avocado are fresh. It’s big portion compared to the price. The location is good (walkable from main street). Overall, considering the price and portions, I think this is a very good value for your money.

very good food
This is a busy spot. Waited around 30 minutes for a table, they let us wait inside which was very kind. Definitely worth the wait! Ordered before our table was ready then just about when the table was ready we got our food which sped up the process. The food was amazing and I’m glad I went with the waiters suggestion, not a bad price either!
All of us that had the open sandwiches did wish there was another piece of bread hut nevermind. Recommend the hot chocolate, passionfruit and oolong iced tea, egg and shrimp open sandwich, salmon rice bowl and salmon open sandwich. Highly recommend coming!

Interesting
This cafe has a great location and normally inworry about quality with pretty looking cafes. The good thing is that the barista was talking and explaining the coffee and the coffee beans roasts. They have dark and mild coffee roasts which I found interesting.
As most likely in other cafes they used dark roast. They have also 3 types of cortado, cortado+ they add more milk to it. I ordered Aloha cortado and I did not find a difference in taste! At all good experience.

Lovely coffee
The staff was extremely friendly, very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about coffee and everything they do. There is a wide selection of drinks to choose from, many of which are quite unique and not the kind of drink selection you can easily find in other places.
The coffee I had was delicious. There are options for different milks which caters to anyone with special dietary needs/different personal preferences. I also had a pot of tea which was high quality and tasted great.

Favourite spot
We have been many times and their quality, service, and overall atmosphere is unmatched. So cozy and inviting! Their drinks, pastries, and food are all fantastic. They do not have lactose free milk but they have oat milk so there is an option in case of intolerance.
We also got the croissant and we got an amazing and very buttery recently baked croissant to enjoy with our coffees. Highly recommend their oat milk lattes, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

beautiful space
The coffee is made using an automated pour over and is thus decent. Make sure to know which flavor notes you like (I like floral). The variety too is decent and the service seems to be attentive and helpful.
Also get the croissant. As good as the croissants in France, my word. Buttery but not heavy, flaky but not messy, laminated with precision. What a croissant. Beautiful spot with great indoor work/read space and outdoor chill/read space.

Nice vibe
A lot of things work in favour of this place from its setting, location to the atmosphere. It also does quite nice coffees. We had two Americano/Long Black Coffee, as well as two homemade scones (baked in the cafe). The coffee. size was large. Scones were regular sizes. Staff extremely friendly and offering butter and raspberry jam on top of scones.
Only reason or scope for improvement would be the quality of the coffee. It was decent but for me it seemed a bit dull, lacking a balanced body with acidity for an Americano. None of us finished our Americanos. The scones were good. A very cozy place.

coffee & Brekkie
A lovely place for a relaxing breakfast!
The food is really delicious and fresh and the hosting welcomes everyone with a smile. Breakfast Sandwich was terrific as well, bread seemed to be homemade/locally baked.
Was a doggo inside looked like a golden retriever, very friendly and cute so just be careful if you have allergies. Didn't get the owner/coowners name but she was very nice and welcoming.

Relaxing hangout
The staff were very polite and friendly and recommended me the sandwich that i should try. I tried rye bread sandwich with chorizo, avocado, hummus. It was delicious. The atmosphere is very cozy. This is very much a hidden gem.
There’s a shop dog that’s so quiet for anyone who is afraid of dogs.We enjoyed what we ate. The cinnamon roll was dry. As for the price I have mixed feelings. A bit on the expensive side for what we ate. But the ambience made up for it.

Lovely decor
One of most beautiful cafés in town, talking about the room in the interiour courtyard, a historical building beautifully decorated by a local designer with hanging paper flower trees.
Coffee is very good, still among the best, with a rich history and tradition of specialty coffee, professional and nice staff, variety and all you need. The place is quite crowded, but service is super fast, so you don't end up waiting a lot.
Good deserts / pastry too.

lovely view
This was one of the best places we ate at. And the view too is so nice. Would recommend going early in the morning as it gets pretty crowded later in the day. Being able to find this well-hidden coffee spot is a great reward after a long walk in a cold day.
Its semi-underground architectural structure gives a cozy feeling in a caved typical town house. The barista welcomed me with friendly and laid-back manner. I ordered a flat-white to takeaway, when I saw the relatively short paper cup I immediately realised this is a five-star which really knows what they are doing.

popular
This is a famous café in town, and it definitely lives up to its reputation! It was quite crowded when we visited, so we only managed to purchase some coffee beans to take home. The beans turned out to be pretty good—great aroma and flavor. We also tried several of their coffee offerings during a week of visits.
We had an amazing time sipping through these exceptional coffees. However, one thing that truly stood out was their outstanding customer service. I visited The Coffee Collective three times, and each time, the service was extraordinary. Every barista was super friendly, always smiling, and meticulously prepared each coffee. I felt genuinely welcomed and valued as a customer.

nice atmosphere
A place to enjoy morning sun on their terrace or to get some work done inside upstairs on their big community table. They serve a very tasty croissant with coffee glace on top. The staff are super friendly, hospitality on top level. We go there four mornings in a roll during our holiday in maastricht. The location is easily accessible and they have outdoor seating too.
The coffee was good, they also have coffee bean bags, aeropress and accessories for sale. Coffee is excellent, nice interior and easy location. Also one of the baristas recommended us other cool gems to visit.

charming space
The atmosphere is cozy, and it’s a fantastic spot to work or catch up with friends. The only tricky part was finding a table—tables fill up quickly, and although it’s tempting to leave your belongings to hold your spot, the café advises against it.
Another point that could be improved is the requirement to order something roughly every hour. Extending this to every 90 minutes or allowing guests to order a drink or food item for a 2-3 hour stay might feel more relaxed and manageable.

Speciality coffee
The location is easily accessible and they have outdoor seating too. The coffee was good, they also have coffee bean bags, aeropress and accessories for sale. The pastries are delicious and flaky, got the simple croissant, the pain au chocolat and croissant sandwich.
Was lucky to arrive before a rush (at about 9) and found a seat inside. The staff are very friendly. The ambient is ideal for escape from routine and find your hipster way! I tried a v60 coffe with passion fruit notes. The silky milk last until the final drop of coffee.

filter coffee
Their filter coffee menu is impressive, featuring some top quality beans, including offerings from Nestor Lasso. I tried two of his coffees, and they were fantastic. The café has limited seating inside, but there are more options outside. Both times, we sat outdoors, enjoying the scenery while the world went by.
Some of the filter options are on the pricier side (€17), but the quality is undeniable. The staff were friendly on both visits but I was a little disappointed by the lack of conversation about the coffee itself, especially given the premium pricing. Overall, still a great experience and somewhere you should check out if you love coffee.

Decent menu
We needed to wait to be seated as the place was packed; we waited in the bar. If they dont have chairs in the bar available they dont take people in anymore so it is very popular. One of the waitresses was very friendly and was able to take the pressure the other one look a bit overwhelmed already and stressed out, luckily for us we got service from the nice waitress.
Prices were fair and the table we got was perfectly located. They also serve food, and we are definitely going back. Overall, it's quite decent and one of the nice food experiences we had in the netherlands.

One of my favourites
They always have some promotions on their website that makes this experience even better. Or you can buy a bag of coffee in the store and guys will ground it for you. It's a very impressive place to eat or drink your coffee.
The guys working there are sooo friendly and polite. The atmosphere is amazing.Everything is clean. By the way, don’t forget to try their pastries. I love love love their carrot cake and cookies with Nutella is out of this planet

Kruisherenhotel Maastricht
#hollandtrip
"Kruisherenhotel Maastricht is one of the most unique hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Set in a beautifully restored 15th-century monastery, the blend of Gothic architecture and modern design is breathtaking. Walking through the grand entrance, we were immediately captivated by the stunning interiors—high vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows, and contemporary furnishings that complement the historic surroundings. Our room was spacious, stylish, and incredibly comfortable. The restaurant, located in the former church, served an outstanding meal in a truly magical setting. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and full of great recommendations for exploring Maastricht. The location was ideal, close to the city center yet peaceful. Staying here felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you love hotels that combine history, art, and luxury, Kruisherenhotel is a must. It’s more than just a hotel—it’s an experience you’ll never forget!"

The special heaven and hell of Maastricht, Netherlands
Maastricht in the Netherlands has both the Bookstore of Heaven and the Gate of Hell.
The historic church was converted into a bookstore, and many people came here to visit it; the Gate of Hell, named because of the Black Death, is a first-rate attraction! There are also caves in this city, and there are many beautiful paintings on the cave walls that record the history of the city!
