Jiaxiu Tower is a Guiyang landmark that looks even better lit up at dusk. For dinner, head to Qingyun Market. The official Guiyang city route includes Qianling Park, Jiaxiu Tower, Wenchang Pavilion, and Qingyun Market. Qingyun Market is best for experiencing the night atmosphere. No need to queue at every popular stall—try those with more locals. 🌊Day 2: Huangguoshu Waterfall day trip Leave Guiyang early for Huangguoshu. The scenic area mainly includes the big waterfall, Tianxingqiao, and Doupotang. You need to take the park shuttle between spots; it’s not possible to walk between them all in just a few minutes. I started with Huangguoshu Waterfall. When the water flow is strong, it’s very impressive. Near the falls, there’s a lot of mist, so protect your phone, camera, and shoes from water. Next, visit Tianxingqiao. It’s not just about the bridge but also features strange rocks, caves, a water stone forest, and the Yinlianzhuitan waterfall. If you have the energy, try to walk the whole route—the scenery is more concentrated in the second half. Finally, see Doupotang Waterfall, located upstream of Huangguoshu. It’s one of the wider waterfalls in the Huangguoshu group. For the night, it’s best to stay in Anshun or near Huangguoshu rather than returning to Guiyang. It’s more convenient for visiting Dragon Palace the next day. 🛶Day 3: Dragon Palace → Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village In the morning, visit Dragon Palace to experience the karst caves and boat tour. The cave is slippery and cooler than outside, so bring a light jacket in summer. Dragon Palace and Huangguoshu are not in the same scenic area. Both are in Anshun, but trying to explore both deeply in one day is tight. Dragon Palace features water caves, waterfalls inside the cave, and karst landscapes, so plan at least half a day. In the afternoon, head to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. After checking in, explore the old street and Wind and Rain Bridge, then visit the viewing platform at night to see the lights come on. The long table feast is more of a group experience—lively rather than refined. If you want to enjoy Miao cuisine seriously, find a restaurant with clear pricing. In the afternoon, head to Libo. The trip from Xijiang to Libo is not short, and public transport usually requires transfers. If traveling with a group, chartering a car or using a reputable carpool saves time. 💦Day 5: Libo Xiaoqikong day trip Xiaoqikong was my favorite stop on this Guizhou trip. Lakes, forests, and waterfalls are all along one route, with different vibes on sunny and cloudy days. The official route also connects these spots. The park is large, so be sure to take the shuttle bus. Don’t try to walk the entire route. Some parts of the Water Forest trail can get your shoes wet. In the rainy season, wear non-slip sneakers and avoid sandals. 🏨Where to stay In Guiyang, it’s best to stay near the fountain, Jiaxiu Tower, or subway stations for convenient dining at night. After visiting Huangguoshu, you can stay in Anshun city or Huangguoshu town. If you want to visit Dragon Palace early the next day, staying in Anshun is more convenient. In Xijiang Miao Village, it’s recommended to stay inside the scenic area for one night. Don’t just look for “view rooms”—check if you need to climb many stairs and whether the guesthouse offers luggage transfer. In Libo, stay in the county town or near Xiaoqikong’s east gate.
