2025 Hanko Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in April)

Hanko Church is a church in the southernmost town in Finland. It was built in 1892 and designed by architect Bertel Liljeqvist. The church was damaged during the Second World War era as was the nearby Hanko Water tower as well but it was renovated in the early 1950s. There’s a beautiful Church park with a lot of flowers going uphill (quite many stairs) from the town center to the church (and old water tower which is just next to the church). The park is suitable for a picnic or there’s also kids playground. If you plan to visit Hanko, you can easily access the church from the church park via the stairs. During the summer months the church is often booked for weddings but they rarely last more than one hour at a time. You can plan your visit to go to the nearby water tower at the same time. There is no admission fee to the church but please be quiet inside the church. If you plan your visit to the southernmost town in Finland, I recommend you to visit the old water tower sightseeing platform. Hanko is located about 120 km away from Helsinki via the road 51. it will take about 2 hours to drive because the road is amazingly small. But if you have the courage to come to Hanko, you come to a beautiful town with old houses and an amazing view to the Baltic Sea. In the center of the town right next to the church stands the old water tower. You can visit the tower by paying an entrance fee of 3 euros and riding the elevator up to the high floor. The tower sightseeing floor is located at 65 meters above the sea level and the tower is 48 meters high. You can also see the Finnish archipelago and the southernmost cape of Finland, Tulliniemi. There’s also a small gift shop inside the tower and you can buy some souvenirs from the upper level. It’s both cheap and interesting place to visit. I recommend going on a clear day. It’s about an hour drive from Helsinki, Hanko is a small town by the sea and nature. There are beautiful beach, nice coffee shop, good restaurant where you can sit and enjoy the ocean slowly get moving, enjoy and hear the relaxing sound of waves from the ocean. If there is a chance, come here for a month or your whole vacation, especially July and August, there will be plenty of wild berries and apples for you to enjoy. #hanko #Finnishsummer #summer
