2025 Geochang Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in June)

#FallTravel One of the places on my bucket list for a flower trip wearing hanbok was the Geumgangsan Asta Chrysanthemum Festival. I wanted to take pretty pictures with my hanbok, so I even brought my camera with me, but since I was getting real-time news about autumn flowers, I thought I would have to wait until next year to finish editing it after more than a week since I visited. 🥺 This was my first visit since the first festival, but it was more walkable than I thought (taxi fare wasn't cheap..) and I was so happy to meet cute friends here, and I was also happy because the hanbok suited me so well. People who visited during this holiday said that the flowers are still in good condition, so I think it would be a good idea to visit to see chrysanthemums for a while! (Actually, I went there in mid-October the first year of the festival...?) On weekdays, people leave after taking pictures of the sunrise, and then flock back around sunset, so it seems like the least crowded time is between 9 and 11 AM, and on weekends, if you don't leave really early, it's hard to even get in. Actually, last weekend, cars lined up starting around 8 AM... Oh, and since many people asked me how I got there by walking, I'll leave this based on Cheongju. I definitely wanted to go early in the morning, so I looked into transportation, but there's no way to go directly from Cheongju to Geochang. So I had to take the first bus at 7 AM from Daejeon Complex Terminal, but there was no bus from Cheongju to Daejeon before 7 AM. 🥺 So I went from Osong Station to Daejeon Station (train), then from Daejeon Station to Complex Terminal, took a bus there, went down to Geochang, and took a taxi from Geochang Terminal to Gamaksan! During the festival, many people take taxis to Gamaksan, and our driver gave us his business card and asked us to call him when he left, and it seemed like he waited in the parking lot until we left. When traveling by foot, it is often difficult to catch a taxi, but in Geochang, I met a great driver and was able to walk to Gamaksan and Galgye Forest! (The taxi fare is just tearful...) I've never seen lavender properly, so I stopped by Herb Village on my way back from Muju. 🪻 Most lavender bloomed later than I thought, so I think it will bloom in purple from this weekend. Close to Muju, so I stopped by on the last day of my trip Geochang Herb Village🪻 As of June 7th, they said it was 40% bloomed, but when I actually went there, it was so bloomed that I could barely see the purple color, so it was a little disappointing, but it was a pretty space with goldenrod and roses, so it was nice to take a light walk and look around💜 And it was free admission, so I didn't regret it! The view is amazing because the mountains and valleys are right in front The main spot of the spacious garden has a hanok feel, so it's a place where you can feel a special atmosphere! This is the indoor 'Tropical Botanical Garden' located in Changpowon, Gyeongnam's representative waterside ecological park. Changpowon is a huge park 66 times the size of a soccer field, and it boasts a different charm in each of the four seasons: irises in the spring, lotuses in the summer, chrysanthemums in the fall, and reeds in the winter. Among them, the Tropical Botanical Garden is a place where tropical plants that are always green regardless of the season are there. In cafes, you can enjoy the blooming and falling of alocasias and cacti that always have green leaves. #summervacay Took a little trip out to the Gamaksan Wind Farm in Geochang and this place is lowkey stunning. You’ve got these massive wind turbines spinning slowly on top of wide green hills, and it feels like something straight out of a cinematic drone shot. The road up is a bit of a climb, but totally worth it once you hit the open views. There’s a walking path where you can just wander along the ridge, breeze in your face, surrounded by nothing but sky, grass, and those big swooshing blades. It’s peaceful in the best way, quiet, fresh air, and enough space to just breathe and vibe. Definitely not a touristy spot, which honestly makes it even better. Bring snacks, wear comfy shoes, and take your time soaking in the scenery. It’s like nature’s version of a chill playlist. Geochang, you did good.

Bigyesan in Geochang is one of those mountains that invites you to take your time. It's serene, lush, and ideal for a peaceful adventure with just enough uphill challenge to make you feel accomplished. The trail is enveloped in greenery, with towering trees lining the path and birds chirping in the background. From the very beginning, it exudes a calming vibe. The hike starts gently, easing you in before the steeper sections near the summit. Even then, the climb isn’t overwhelming—just enough to get your legs working. At the summit, the view unfolds into a stunning panorama of rolling mountains, making you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle. I took a break, enjoyed some gimbap, and honestly didn’t want to leave. Bigyesan isn’t a famous or flashy destination, but that’s precisely its charm. It’s tranquil, picturesque, and perfect for clearing your mind. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a quiet escape and a chance to reconnect with nature.

#summervacay Udusan’s Uisangbong in Geochang, totally caught me off guard, in the best way. This place isn’t hyped up like other big-name mountains, but honestly? It’s a total gem. The trail up to Uisangbong is peaceful, with hardly any foot traffic. Just you, the trees, and the occasional squirrel doing parkour. The climb’s got a nice mix, some gentle slopes, forest paths, and rocky bits that keep it fun. As you get higher, the trail opens up and those wild craggy cliffs start showing off. Uisangbong’s peak has these dramatic stone formations that look like something straight out of an ancient painting. The view at the top? Straight-up amazing. Rolling hills, distant ridgelines, and total silence except for the wind. It felt like I stepped into a forgotten world. No crowds, no rush, just pure mountain vibes. If you want a quiet, slightly rugged hike with a big payoff, Uisangbong is it. Bring snacks, good shoes, and a sense of adventure. You’ll love it.

This is Dear Hazel, a specialty bagel cafe in Geochang. We recommend the bagel, which is chewy on the outside and moist on the inside. The combination of bagel and coffee makes for a solid meal. The exterior has a beige-tone curved design that creates a sophisticated atmosphere. It is small and has 3-4 tables, and the cozy and quiet atmosphere is nice.
