The pub had amazing food and service! the local stores owners/worker were all so kind! We also went to the Tree Top Adventure Park in Lorne which was an absolute blast, good way to tire out the kids! Getting There - Head southwest from the city of Melbourne. Follow along the ocean road highway. Attractions - Tons! Bells Beach Lookout, Point Addis Beach, Anglesea Beach, Twelve Apostles, Childers Cove. Hotels - Seafarer’s Getaway (refer to one of my earlier posts about it) This is a must-visit activity when visiting Melbourne. We rented a car from Jucy and just drove along the great ocean road highway. There are tons of places to stop along the way with amazing views of the ocean and geographical landmarks. Many people surf along some of the beaches here. And on some occasions, you’d be able to see whales at some of the lookout points! #tripblazers #beachlife #australia

#bucketlistreboot Great Ocean Road in Southern Australia is one of the most impressive coastal destinations in Australia. It is also one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the world. Stretching for 243km between Torquay to Wattnambool, the Great Ocean Road has a lot to offer: rugged cliffs, beautiful rock formations, scenic viewpoints, stunning beaches, charming town, wildlife and many more. As there are so many things to see along Great Ocean Road, it will be overwhelming if you plan to complete in a day. Stretch it to at least 2 days with a night over at Port Campell or Apollo Bay. Do check out if there’s any road work during the day you plan to drive.

This road trip was a perfect salve from the busy city life! The crashing waves, the trickling rivers, perfect balm for a tired soul.

#createwithtrip Great Ocean Road is about 200 plus kilometres stretch of Coastline Road along the south eastern part of Australia. It was one of the most gorgeous attraction of Victoria state. I remember years ago when I was studying in Melbourne, we will always took this journey when friends or relatives visited. You can either joined a bus tour arranged by local tour operators or if you prefer the flexibility along the journey, you can drive and stop at different scenic points along the way. The most iconic part of the tour is definitely The Twelve Apostles. The formation of rocks raised from the sea is magnificent and rarely seen in other parts of the world. A great spot for photos and selfie. Other unforgettable scenic spots include the famous lighthouse guiding the waterway of Anglesea at Cape airway. One of my other favourite attraction is the Loch Ard Gorge. you can actually take a hike down to the bay and explore the magnificent site. It is simply the best. There are plenty of food joints along the way and you can stop at various places to savour the local cuisine. Among them are the famous town of Torquay and Port Campbell. This tour is the perennial favourite and I would recommend it with my both hands and foots.

If you're short on time like we were and want to hit all the highlights of the Great Ocean Road in a single day— · *It's totally doable.** Start your morning in Melbourne and drive along the coastline. Cliffs, crashing waves, lighthouses, wild koalas, kangaroos... it's like a scene from a movie the whole way. And after finishing the loop, my biggest takeaway is: · *The most beautiful sight on the Great Ocean Road might just be the "Great Ocean Road" itself.**🌊 I've put together a **one-day Great Ocean Road self-drive itinerary** for travelers with limited time👇 🥐 **① Geelong | Breakfast stop** The Paddock Bakery It's the perfect place to grab breakfast after driving from Melbourne before you head out. 🥐 Croissant 🥐 Danish 🥭 Mango Matcha None of these were a miss. The shop is mostly locals, and you can see into the open kitchen—it has a great local vibe. Once you're full, hit the road and officially enter Great Ocean Road mode🚗 🌊 **② Loch Ard Gorge | More surprising than the Twelve Apostles** If you're short on time, don't skip this. Compared to the Twelve Apostles, there are noticeably fewer tourists here, but the impact of the cliffs, gorge, and waves is just as strong. Plus, you can tour it in reverse, so you don't have to backtrack too much. ⏰ Recommended stay: 30 mins 🪨 **③ Twelve Apostles | The Great Ocean Road's calling card** Finally, we've reached the most classic spot on the Great Ocean Road. Massive stone pillars stand tall on the South Pacific coastline as waves constantly crash against the cliffs. Standing there, you'll understand why this is the iconic image of Australian travel. There are two viewing platforms here, and I recommend visiting both. 📸 If you read English textbooks when you were a kid, the scene here will really make you feel: · *"So the scenery in the textbooks actually exists."** ⏰ Recommended stay: about 1 hour 🐨 **④ Hordern Vale Rd | Hidden gem: Spotting koalas!** This stop isn't a traditional attraction, but it was one of our most surprising experiences of the day. Turn in on the way back from Apollo Bay and drive slowly for about 1–2 km. Then— · *Look up at the trees.** There really are koalas🐨 The three of us found three in total; wild koalas just napping on the branches. No fences, no zoo—just you driving by and suddenly spotting a koala in a tree. This feeling of a chance encounter is just amazing. 🍦 **⑤ Apollo Bay | Worth a stop, but don't set your expectations too high😂** I had high expectations for this place, but the actual experience was pretty average. The viral ice cream and seafood brunch weren't bad, but it's not a "must-visit" destination. The ocean view is nice, but it just reminds me of Kiama near Sydney. If you're pressed for time, this is a good place to grab a quick meal and rest before continuing your journey. 🌊 **⑥ Great Ocean Road | The real star** Honestly. After a full day of driving, I actually think: · *The most beautiful part of the Great Ocean Road might just be the road itself.** The ocean is on your left, and cliffs and forests are on your right as you drive along the coastline. At times, it really feels like California Highway 1 in the US. The only problem is— · *The curves! There are so many!🤣** If you get carsick easily, remember to prepare before you set off. 🚨 **⑦ Split Point Lighthouse | Little Red Riding Hood Lighthouse** You can see that red lighthouse from far away. You don't really need to stay too long; just taking a few photos from a distance is satisfying enough. If your schedule is tight, this can be a quick photo op. 🦘 **⑧ Anglesea Golf Club | The final stunning Australian moment** I originally just wanted to show my friends who were visiting Australia for the first time what a golf course looks like. The result: · *There are just too many kangaroos!!** Groups of kangaroos were hanging out right on the course, and we happened to catch the sunset. The setting sun, the grass, the kangaroos—the whole scene suddenly felt like, "Is this actually a nature documentary?"🦘🌅 🌃 **Return to Melbourne in the evening** We got back to the city center around 7:00 PM. We found a restaurant for dinner and then took a slow walk along the Yarra River. From a day of coastal highways, cliffs, and wildlife, we were back in the city lights of Melbourne. It wasn't a rushed itinerary, and we weren't overly tired. Just like that, the day slowly came to an end. 💰 **Parking tips** Many street parking spots in Melbourne are free from 9:00 PM–7:00 AM the next day, but be sure to check the signs on-site, as regulations may vary by area. Chain parking lots also often have a daily flat rate of around AU$15–25. Since we left early and returned late, we basically saved on parking fees entirely💰 ✨ **To sum up:** If you only have one day, you can follow this route: · *Geelong breakfast → Loch Ard Gorge → Twelve Apostles → Spotting koalas → Apollo Bay → Great Ocean Road → Split Point Lighthouse → Anglesea to see kangaroos → Melbourne** Drive from the city into the coastline, and then back from the seaside to the city. And the most addictive part of the Great Ocean Road has never been just one single attraction. It's driving with the ocean always outside your window, the road ahead constantly curving, and occasionally spotting a wild koala in a tree. · *That is the most romantic part of the Great Ocean Road.🇦🇺🌊**

Some absolutely gorgeous locals let us know about a secret little secluded beach we could visit in Amlwch!! We parked up and headed through a field, to the cliff edge where we spotted some steps going downhill. Once we got to the bottom we could see the little beach where the rocks shielded us from wind. Lovely for a little swim, and you can follow the cliff round for a wonderful view 🌞 🌊 📍: Head for the Pen Garnedd car park and continue through the field to the right. ♿️♿️: Free car parking although the walk through the field and down to the beach is uneven and unsteady in places. There is a metal rail which you can help to use when navigating the stairs. There are also steps down to the beach, or a small scramble so this destination may not be accessible for all. My plan doesn’t include searching for wild koalas 🐨 or rainforest walks 🍃. ✨Day 1: Depart from Melbourne city 🚗 ⬇️ Geelong seaside town: The first stop is here to see the painted puppets 🪵 and experience the vibe of “Little California.” ⬇️ Anglesea: This beach is quite beautiful with many surfers 🏄, worth a quick look 👀. ⬇️ Red Hat Lighthouse: Another great photo spot and you can also take a walk along the coastline 🌊. ⬇️ Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch: Stop for a photo; if you don’t want people in the shot, you don’t have to get out of the car. ⬇️ Lorne town: Have lunch here, I recommend Totti's 🍴—it’s really delicious 😋. After eating, you can stroll around the town. ⬇️ Teddy Lookout: A viewpoint in Lorne town where you can see the coastline and the coastal road. ⬇️ Kennett River cafe koala: Here you can look for wild koalas in the trees 🐨. ⬇️ Apollo Bay Marriner Lookout: A viewpoint overlooking the whole town and sea view—definitely a must-visit!!! ⬇️ Check into a hotel in Apollo Bay. Popular hotels and B&Bs must be booked in advance. If you can’t get a reservation, I recommend staying in town for convenient dining and shopping 🉑. ✨Day 2: Breakfast at the popular scallop pie bakery 🍞. Personally, I found the taste average and a bit fishy ❌. ⬇️ Maits Rest Forest: You can take a rainforest walk here 🍃. ⬇️ The Twelve Apostles: I heard going in the afternoon causes backlighting, making photos less attractive. But when we went in the morning, the clouds were too thick; the blue sky only appeared at noon. I guess it depends on luck. ⬇️ Gibson Steps: When we went, it was closed, but now it’s open 🉑. You can get close to the rocks and go down to the beach. Definitely worth visiting. ⬇️ Loch Ard Gorge ⬇️ Campbell Port: Have lunch here. We chose 12 Rocks Beach Bar Cafe ☕️, but the taste was average ❌. ⬇️ London Bridge ⬇️ The Grotto: Our last stop. I highly recommend going down the stairs to see the sea cave. It’s a unique and special view 💯. ⬇️ Start the return trip back to Melbourne city. The scenery along the way is also quite nice, with haystack pastoral views somewhat reminiscent of Inner Mongolia. The two-day self-driving trip is very relaxed and enjoyable 😌. I recommend everyone arrange a two-day Great Ocean Road itinerary if time allows—no need to rush, just leisurely enjoy the beautiful scenery 🌊.

This was an interesting place with a mix of locals and tourists. Their breakfast bowls are really tasty! Sadly, it's impossible to get a free table on weekends and it's not possible to book a table either. Since the place is really crowded it's really loud and you don't really have much space either. Not the cheapest, but the breakfast bowls are worth it. I would recommend going there on weekdays because it's a rather stressful experience on weekends.
