This is the only place in Shangri-La
where you can see the reflection of Meili Snow Mountain
and the golden mountain at sunrise.
There are very few tourists, and it's a beautiful secret place hidden in the mountains.
How to get there?
Navigate directly to Shuoda Village.
Route: Shangri-La - Benzilan - Deqin County - Foshan Township - Shuoda Village,
about 250 km, 5 hours.
The whole journey is on paved roads. The hardest part is the 50-minute drive up the mountain. Although it's a cement road, the winding and narrow roads are still challenging. New drivers should not try it easily.
Accommodation
Stay in Shuoda Village. If you want to see the golden mountain at sunrise, it's recommended to stay in Shuoda Village. Although it's a small village, the accommodation is still good.
Cost: about 600
Stay in Foshan Township. If you don't want to see the golden mountain at sunrise, you can stay at the foot of the mountain, which is Foshan Township.
Cost: 100–200
Travel time
The weather is stable in autumn and winter, and the chance of seeing snow-capped mountains is higher.
The trees have also turned yellow recently, so you can take pictures of both the snow-capped mountains and the autumn scenery. The yellow trees are expected to last until November, so hurry up!

Shangri-La has a Tibetan village called Shuoda Village, which is like a paradise. There are only a dozen households here. The villagers raise cattle and farm, living a peaceful and simple life. There is also a beautiful lake in the village called Xueda Lake. It is the only place in Shangri-La where you can see the reflection of the 13 peaks of Meili Snow Mountain. 1. Transportation: Depart from Shangri-La, pass through Benzilan, Deqin County, and Foshan Township to Shuoda Village, about 250 km in total, 5 hours by car. The whole journey is on asphalt roads, and the road conditions are good, but the road from Foshan Township to Shuoda Village is narrow, with continuous uphill curves, high terrain, steep cliffs on the outside, and the Lancang River below. New drivers should not try it. Shuoda Village is relatively remote, and public transportation is not easy to reach. Self-driving or chartering a car is more convenient.
2. Accommodation: You can choose to stay in Shuoda Village. Each family has guest rooms, and the price is about CNY 600 or more. You can also stay in Foshan Township, where there are accommodations and restaurants, but the conditions are average, and the price is about CNY 100.
3. Travel time: In autumn and winter, the weather is good, and the probability of seeing Meili Snow Mountain is high. You can watch the sunrise from 7–8 am. At around 10 am, the wind blows, and the ripples on the lake make the reflection less beautiful.
4. Travel tips: Bring a telephoto camera for better photos. It is cold in the morning and evening, so remember to bring a thick coat, hat, gloves, etc. It is very sunny here, so sunscreen is a must. The mountain road is rugged, so prepare motion sickness patches. Remember to close the door when entering and leaving the village, and take your trash with you when you leave.

During the half month in Yubeng, I seemed to live a fairy-like life. 2️⃣ Yubeng entrance ticket is 55 RMB per person, you can choose to take an off-road vehicle in the scenic area or hike in. The off-road vehicle costs about 260 RMB per person one way, and 200 RMB per person for the return trip, with ticket sales and operations stopping at 17:00 every day. Hiking one way takes about 8 hours, but remember to prepare hiking gear in advance!
3️⃣ The currently open hiking routes include the Sacred Waterfall and Ice Lake trails, and the hotel will prepare everything you need for the hike.

Sharing my feelings:
1️⃣ The first picture was taken at Phase I, all other photos were taken at Phase II.
2️⃣ Phase I has the 'legendary' best window view of Yubeng. The house with white and coffee colors spliced in picture 3 is Phase I, facing the snow mountain, the view is incredibly stunning. Phase II has more public areas, more leisurely and comfortable, I personally prefer the relaxed vibe of Phase II, if possible, I recommend staying one night in each. I spent the whole day in the hotel on the second day, watching the sunrise on the rooftop in the early morning, having afternoon tea and taking beautiful photos in the afternoon, dining by candlelight during the blue hour in the evening, and then cuddling on the sofa with friends for a drink by the fire under the snow mountain, the whole atmosphere was so full... After watching the brilliant starry sky, I went to sleep, feeling wonderful
3️⃣ On the third day, we chose to hike the Divine Waterfall trail (detailed strategy in the previous post), before leaving, the butler provided us with hiking poles and crampon shoes for free, and reminded us of the precautions for hiking, and stuffed two bottles of energy drinks for us before we set off, the service was so good
4️⃣ After hiking back to Wild Language, I really felt 'the money was well spent', the hardware and software facilities of the Wild Language rooms are very comfortable, especially the bedding, it's so comfortable to sleep in. After a tiring hike, I just wanted to take a hot shower and have a good sleep, waking up the next day to have breakfast while looking at the snow mountain was so beautiful...
5️⃣ Yubeng is not only a hiker's paradise but also a paradise for photo-loving ladies, besides the super photogenic Wild Language, I absolutely love the little forest under the snow mountain! A real-life version of the Emerald City, perfect for shooting fairy dresses, the moss here is 6cm thick, the ecology is super good, there are also friendly mules, cute little squirrels... Because of the ecological balance here, there are no snakes or bugs... (My photos are still being sorted)
6️⃣ Regarding the luggage issue that everyone is most concerned about. Although the journey is a bit of a hassle, you can rest assured to bring your suitcase. After getting off the off-road vehicle at the entrance of Lower Yubeng Village, there is actually a 20-minute walk to reach. But Wild Language has its own pickup service to take guests directly to the store, so there is no need to only carry a backpack into the village.
⚠️But be careful not to bring 'square fat' shaped suitcases! Because if the suitcase is too thick, an additional fee of 50 per trip is charged by the scenic area.

Direct flights to Diqing Shangri-La or Lijiang.
The high-speed train from Lijiang to Shangri-La only takes 1.5 hours.
It is recommended to stay in Shangri-La for one night to avoid missing the vehicle to Yubeng.
Take a business car from Shangri-La to Xidang Village parking lot, the journey takes about 4-5 hours, and the cost is about 600-700 yuan/car.
The Yubeng scenic area ticket is 55 yuan/person, you can choose to take an off-road vehicle in the scenic area or hike in (about 8 hours one way).
The round-trip tickets from Yubeng Village are 260 yuan and 200 yuan respectively, and the off-road vehicle may stop running in extreme weather.

1. The ultraviolet rays are strong in the plateau area, so be sure to do enough sun protection!
2. To prevent altitude sickness: start taking Rhodiola rosea capsules a week in advance/highland Yubeng village peace, do not bathe when you first arrive at the highland, and do not engage in strenuous exercise.
3. Prepare enough vitamin tablets, energy bars, and beef jerky to replenish energy in time during hiking.

As early as the National Day of 2022 when I drove to Yunnan, I planned to drive around Yunnan on the newly built Deqin Road, but at that time the road construction time on the announcement board was extended, so I didn't make it. 🛣️Old National Highway 214｜The old road to Tibet is still worth it
On the way from Shangri-La to Deqin, there is a section of the old National Highway 214, which was an important route from Yunnan to Tibet. After the new National Highway 214 was built, this old national highway was downgraded to Provincial Highway 236, from an altitude of over 3000 to 4292 meters, you can enjoy the Baima Snow Mountain, the cascading roads and grassland vegetation at close range, and you can see the Meili Snow Mountain in front when the weather is good. The drive to Baima Snow Mountain Pass is the highest road section in Yunnan, and it is also the border between Deqin and Shangri-La.
🛣️Deqin Road｜Difficult and beautiful
The construction of Deqin Road started at the end of 2009. It is an important road connecting Diqing Tibetans and Nujiang Lisu. The completion of this road also means that the large loop of Yunnan tourism is finally opened, and there is no need to detour. It is more convenient to go from Yunnan to Sichuan!
The Peacock Mountain Tunnel was the most difficult section during the construction of Deqin Road. It used to have to cross the Peacock Mountain Pass at an altitude of 3800 meters. Due to the harsh climate and perennial snow, it was affected by heavy snow from December to June every year and had to be closed, making the road impassable. Now that the Peacock Mountain Tunnel is open, it only takes less than three kilometers and an altitude of 3400 meters to drive through easily.
🛣️National Highway 219｜The picturesque mountains and rivers
When I first saw this border line National Highway 219, I was a bit surprised. There are at least 200 kilometers of artificial sightseeing trails built along the road, with picturesque Bingzhongluo and the first bay of the Nujiang River. Continue north along Bingzhongluo to Tibet.
National Highway 219 runs from north to south through the entire Nujiang Prefecture, with the Biluo Snow Mountain and Gaoligong Mountain on both sides of the river, forming a canyon landscape. There are many places to stop along the way, especially like sitting by the rolling waves of the Nujiang River, and taking pictures casually is very cinematic!

Yubeng | The icy lake after the blizzard is killing me with its beauty!
I can't remember how many times I've walked around the icy lake, but this is definitely the most beautiful one.
🧥Notes for recent trekking on the icy lake:
1, Trekking poles, ice claws, sunglasses, snow covers, gloves, hats are all necessities.
2, The average thickness of the snow along the whole journey is around the calf, but because the path has been walked out by everyone, it's relatively easy to walk, just need to pay attention to clean the ice claws in time, otherwise it will still be slippery.
3, For friends who have no trekking experience, the difficulty of the icy lake after the blizzard is greater than usual, because the whole journey is icy and snowy. Although there are ice claws, walking on the snow will consume more leg strength and energy, it is recommended to start as early as possible, and assume that it takes about 1 hour longer than usual.

📍 First stop: Dali
On the first day, we arrived in Dali and first went to Napa Lake. Napa Lake is a beautiful plateau lake, the grassland and blue sky by the lake are really beautiful! Then we went to Shika Highway and Black Bean Coffee Shop, experiencing a leisurely time. ☕️ Then we went to Shangri-La Alpine Botanical Garden, where there are many rare plants, which is eye-opening.

We also went to the Little Zhongdian Reservoir and took a distant photo with Haba Snow Mountain.
