Getting There - Cradle Mountain National Park Tasmania Australia
Attractions - Hiking and tourist centre
Hotels - several available nearby
Lots of walking track options to meet all fitness levels. We walked around the lake just a shame the cloud were not on our side. The cradle was not visible for most of the hike but the rest of the scenery was stunning.

Cradle Mountain - Dove Lake Circuit
A Trip is not complete is Tasmania if you do not drop by Cradle Mountain.
Cradle Mountain is popular due to its synonymous with nature, wilderness and all things pristine. It is like a place out of a picture, with abundance in this spectacular national park giving opportunities to encounter many wild life, which we encounter an Echidna. Such adorable but shy little creature. It is also filled with many lookouts and hikes from amateur to professionals.
Dove Lake Circuit is one of Tasmania's premier nature walk and was a relatively easy hike and took us about 2hours to complete, minus the photo taking and such. The total circuit is a 6km loop which a few lookouts. The walk is easy because there is a man-made broad walk for most of its way and is suitable for elderly and kids.
From the parking lot, you can already see the amazing view of backdrops of mountains but of course parking may be limited, do also check the weather, on the day we went, it started snowing and we all got a bit wet and was chilly as well. It was definitely an amazing hike with such spectacular, breathtaking view at every corner. This is definitely a recommended attraction to go.

Amazing views all around Cradle Mountain!
VIEWS FOR DAYSSSSS
Photos and videos just don't do justice to the beauty of Cradle Mountain. There are a few hiking trails around the mountain, of different difficulty level. I did an 8 hour hike to the summit and then around dove lake. Some bouldering involved at the summit, which was really tough and technical but nothing impossible with some patience and determination :)
Getting to Cradle Mountain is easy by car. There is a shuttle bus that brings visitors to the different start point of the hike trails/ look out points. Be sure that you have a national park pass first to access the mountain.
There are a few hotels/ Airbnbs around Cradle Mountain too. Didn't get to stay at any but would have loved to! #hiking #viewsfordays #mountain #hiketrip #hiketrail

Hitchhiking in Tasmania
Between hiking in the cold at 7am for 2hours and hitchhiking for a 15mins ride - the choice was clear.
We woke up at the break of dawn for a quick breakfast and coffee. The car park was empty and only had a couple of campervans parked overnight here. With our bodies still stiff and cold, we started on our hike to Cradle Mountain only to realise that the journey was longer than expected. We made a quick decision to hitch a ride in to the Overland Track of Cradle Mountain instead of continue walking in the cold. Got rejected a few times but didn't give up. We finally succeeded with a kind hearted couple from Queensland who were also intending to hike to the summit of Cradle Mountain.

Dove Lake Circuit Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The Dove Lake Circuit Hiking Route
Dove Lake is a very popular tourists attraction in tasmania located at near cradle mountain, one of tasmania iconic mountains.
Dove lake has a hike that is a loop where it is a 2.5 - 3 hours circuit route that takes you around the lake that allows you to take different angle of this calm smooth reflective lake. During the walk around the circuit there are also several view points for you, where it overlooks the lake with the gorgeous breathtaking backdrops of the mountains surrounding the lake.
This is an easy hike with some gradual upslope and downslope, nothing too difficult. But if you do not want to walk the entire lake, from the car park, just walk down towards the lake which will only take you less than 10mins and you will be able to have a view of the amazing Dove lake.
Do go early, as the carpark gets filled up really fast and tour buses will also start coming in later in the day.

Experience nature at Dove Lake in Tasmania
Dove Lake is a lovely place! The water is still and quiet, and it's such a perfect place to experience nature and serenity all in one. Views 360 degrees all around!
There are a few hiking trails around Dove Lake (last photo), each with different intensity. The hikes all start off on the boardwalk around the lake, very easy and manageable. For more challenge, feel free to branch off to the other circuits where there is elevation.
It is a great place for tourists and families to spend a couple of hours together in nature.

An Epic Odyssey to Cradle Mountain 🌧️🏞️
Journeying to the captivating Cradle Mountain in Tasmania was a quest filled with anticipation and wonder. The allure of its rugged landscapes and serene beauty beckoned, promising a retreat into the heart of nature's splendor. Armed with curiosity and a sense of adventure, I set out on this odyssey, ready to embrace whatever surprises the journey had in store.
As the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden glow across the horizon, I found myself on the winding road leading to Cradle Mountain. The journey itself was a symphony of breathtaking vistas, as lush forests and quaint towns unfolded before my eyes. Each bend in the road seemed to reveal a new chapter in this story of exploration.
But, as fate would have it, the skies began to weep their gentle tears, painting the world in a misty haze. Raindrops danced upon the windshield like tiny percussionists, adding an unexpected rhythm to my expedition. Despite the rain, there was an enchanting beauty in the way the mist hugged the mountains, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere.
Arriving at Cradle Mountain, the rain had transformed the landscape into a glistening masterpiece. The droplets adorned leaves like precious jewels, while the tranquil waters of Dove Lake reflected the somber yet captivating skies above. The infamous boat shed stood as a stoic sentinel, mirroring its charming silhouette on the water's surface.
Though the weather wasn't on my side, the magic of Cradle Mountain remained undiminished. The rain lent a mysterious allure to the scenery, inviting me to explore with a different perspective. Donning a raincoat and armed with an umbrella, I ventured onto the walking trails, feeling the damp earth beneath my feet and inhaling the intoxicating scent of wet foliage.
As darkness settled in, the rain continued its gentle serenade. The sound of droplets tapping on leaves and cascading down the mountainside formed a tranquil melody, soothing the soul and creating a sanctuary of calm. I took a moment to simply listen, to be present in this extraordinary blend of rain, nature, and camaraderie.
While my journey to Cradle Mountain might have been accompanied by rain and late evening shadows, it was a journey well worth taking. In the midst of nature's subtleties, I found beauty, connection, and a sense of belonging. It's a reminder that sometimes, it's the unexpected moments that leave the most lasting impressions.

In the Cradle Mountain of Tasmania, most of the accommodations are relatively high-end. This trip was in the Lemonthyme Lodge, which was half an hour's drive from Cradle Mountain. I didn't expect this choice to be unexpected. This forest log cabin looks really fairy-tale and the price is very suitable. The resort also has its own hiking route and small waterfall. It is an afternoon of leisure, nowhere to go, and it is self-portrait in the forest. When I returned to the hotel in the evening, the front desk called me to dinner. As soon as I entered the restaurant, a warmth was poured into my heart. The life of the cabin was really pleasant and I felt the full Christmas atmosphere. When I got up in the morning, the sun was not bad. I went through the publicity page of the hotel and learned that there is a hiking route next to the hotel. I can see this waterfall. There are more than one hiking route near the hotel, and there are mountain bikes to rent. Its a Sensian holiday experience, very interesting.

Dove Lake Cradle Mountain Tasmania
With the warmth of the summer sun on my skin and a spirit of adventure in my heart, I embarked on a journey to Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain in the picturesque island of Tasmania. Nestled amidst lush greenery and rugged wilderness, this pristine region promised breathtaking beauty and unforgettable experiences.
As I approached Dove Lake, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by its tranquility. The lake, nestled at the base of Cradle Mountain, reflected the clear blue sky like a mirror. The surrounding forests whispered secrets of ancient tales, inviting me to explore their hidden wonders.
With a backpack filled with snacks and a sense of wanderlust, I set out on the famous Overland Track, a trail that wound its way around the lake and offered panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The trail led me through a diverse terrain, from moss-covered forests to open grasslands adorned with wildflowers in vibrant hues.
As I walked along the path, I could hear the melodies of native birds, their cheerful songs echoing through the air. The crisp mountain air filled my lungs, revitalizing my senses and invigorating my spirit. Every step brought me closer to the towering beauty of Cradle Mountain, its jagged peaks reaching for the heavens.
Reaching a high vantage point, I paused to take in the awe-inspiring view. Cradle Mountain stood majestically before me, its snow-capped peaks contrasting against the vivid green of the valleys below. It was a sight that stirred my soul, a testament to nature's grandeur and resilience.
After capturing the beauty of the landscape in my heart and through the lens of my camera, I continued my hike, following the trail as it meandered around the lake. The waters of Dove Lake sparkled in the sunlight, inviting me to take a closer look. I found a peaceful spot by the shore and dipped my feet into the cool water, feeling an instant connection with the serenity that enveloped the place.
With the afternoon sun shining brightly, I decided to explore further and discovered a hidden gem—a secluded waterfall cascading down a mossy cliff. The sound of rushing water filled the air as I stood in awe of this hidden oasis. I couldn't resist the temptation to dip under the refreshing spray, feeling the cool droplets invigorate my body and soul.
As the day drew to a close, I found myself sitting on the shore of Dove Lake, watching the sunset cast a golden glow upon the surroundings. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors—orange, pink, and purple—painting a breathtaking backdrop for the silhouettes of Cradle Mountain and the surrounding wilderness.
Filled with a sense of gratitude and wonder, I bid farewell to Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain. The memories of my summer visit would forever be etched in my heart—a testament to the beauty and tranquility that Tasmania has to offer. As I left, I promised myself that I would return one day, eager to explore more of this captivating land and create new memories in its embrace.

Marion's Lookout Walk Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Trek to the foot of Cradle Mountain, Tasmania
The journey to Cradle Mountain typically starts from Ronny Creek car park, where there is a registration booth for all visitors to sign in.
Take the Overland Track to get to Crater Falls. The bushwalking track is very well maintained. There is a platform which is raised to keep visitors away from the mud and grass. It is even lined with anti slip chains for the cold winter mornings. Platform is quite narrow though, and good for walking in single file only. The terrain is mostly flat with occasional steps, which makes for an easy walk. It took me about 1.5hr to get to Crater Falls. You might spot some cute wombats along the way if you are lucky!
