The Crew were a delight and I was so sad to say goodbye. The most relaxing and couple focused trip we have taken and so appropriate for our 27th anniversary. My wish would be to cruise Royal Caribbean yearly.

Measuring about 30 miles long and 9 miles wide, Isla Cozumel, whose Maya name translate to “Island of the Swallows” a nod to its indigenous bird population. Most of the island’s roads are one-way, and while a coastal highway circles the island. In the 1950s, after explorer Jacques Cousteau and his team discovered the wall of reefs off Cozumel, the island grew in popularity and has since been declared on of the top 5 dive sites in the world! Home to 40 different dives zones!

Our first introduction to the Viva Wyndham Maya was meeting our concierge, Luis Raul, and it couldn't have been better. He was so welcoming, so friendly, so empathetic with my tired 14 year old daughter, that within minutes, he had us slowing down and relaxing. The resort itself it beautiful--everything was amazing. We loved the walking under the palapa covered walkways, reading the information about the wildlife we saw along the paths and the ancient sculptures located on the property, sitting on the patio under the lights and the trees while listening to live music, swimming in the pools and of course at the spectacular beach. Our room was clean and comfortable. Staff checked in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was great. The buffet had tons of options. We ate in the restaurants twice and those were fabulous as well. I couldn't take part in the activities (yoga, merengue, aerobics) due to a prior injury, but that looked like a lot of fun. There was live music every night on the patio and performances in the amphitheater. As beautiful and fun as the Viva Wyndham Maya is, it really was the staff that made the experience so amazing. Every single employee we encountered was helpful, patient, kind, and polite. Even the bartenders, making drink after drink in the sweltering heat by the pool, had smiles on their faces and would take a second to do a trick for a child, like throwing a piece of ice in the air and catching it behind their back with a cup. Trip To Cozumel In Mexico The island of Cozumel is only 12 miles (19 km) off the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula’s east coast and 44 miles (71 km) south of Cancun. For years, Cozumel was a quite sleepy island that didn’t get many visitors until Jacques Cousteau did a documentary on it after discovering the world class scuba diving at the Palancar Reefs nearby. Since 1961, Cozumel has been known as one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world. In fact for decades since that time, the only tourists visiting the island have been primarily scuba divers. Mainstream tourists went to the resort intensive Cancun in the mainland instead. However, Cozumel became a regular cruise ship port of call in recent years and today it is one of the busiest with two separate terminals. It is common to have five or even six different cruise ships at port on any given day. I’ve been to Cozumel twice, the first time staying several days on a scuba diving vacation and the second time for a day via cruise ship (also scuba dived during my second visit).
