Chichibu Tourism: Nagatoro
Nagatoro, a well-known tourist destination, features both banks of the Arakawa River from the old Oyahana Bridge to the old Takasago Bridge, which are designated as national scenic spots and natural monuments. Among them, the Iwadatami and Chichibu Red Cliff are particularly famous.
The term 'toro' refers to a part of the river where the water is deep and the flow is calm, which is also the origin of the name Nagatoro. In this area, the Arakawa River forms a beautiful, blue, and tranquil 'toro' around the Iwadatami, enhancing the scenic beauty of the surroundings. This picturesque area has long been known as a scenic spot, and it is said that visitors to Hodosan Shrine used to hold banquets while admiring the moon on the Iwadatami.
