2024 Chiang Dao Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Today's Weather
Mostly cloudy 18-29℃
Yod Pha Sam Liam | Chiang Mai
For those visiting Doi Khu Khab or Huai Khu Khab, you must hike here. It's not a long walk, but it's quite tiring for those who don't exercise like us. It's worth it though, as the view is great. You can see Doi Luang Chiang Dao from here, which is amazing. The wind is strong, so come early in the morning to catch some clouds. We were lucky to see some sea of mist as we arrived early.
Pha Taem National Park
Pha Taem National Park is located at the easternmost point of Thailand, making it the first place in the country to witness the sunrise. Situated in Ubon Ratchathani Province, the park features several attractions including prehistoric rock paintings at Pha Taem, Pha Mon, and Pha Lai, natural sculptures like the Sao Chaliang rock formations, and the First Light of Siam viewpoint. The park covers an area of approximately 340 square kilometers (212,501 rai).
Tasana ☕️ A very chic cafe in Chiang Dao
#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck #tasana
#100WaysToTravel #chiangdao
For those who are traveling up north during this period, if you go to Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province
and are looking for a beautiful cafe to check in, I recommend this shop.
Tasana Cafe is decorated with clear glass, with a clear view of the sky and mountains.
The interior of the shop is spacious and decorated with brown tones. The coffee tastes good.
There is also a bakery. The outside area is a lawn.
It is spacious and comfortable to look at. It is another very interesting cafe.
Mountain Season - Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai
My stay at 'Ruedoo Phu Khao' in Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai was a magical experience in nature. The resort is surrounded by picturesque mountains and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The room was comfortable and equipped with all necessary amenities, and it had a balcony overlooking the mountains. I enjoyed the serene atmosphere as the place was perfect for a calm retreat and meditation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The weather was refreshing, making it more enjoyable to sit outside, especially in the mornings and evenings. The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is an ideal place for those who love nature and tranquility.

Visit Chiang Dao Cave in Chiang Mai this rainy season.
The rainy season atmosphere is perfect for those who enjoy making merit. We recommend visiting Wat Tham Chiang Dao, located in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province. This temple is beautiful and offers a peaceful and natural environment. It is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and a connection with nature. Wat Tham Chiang Dao is about 70 kilometers from Chiang Mai city and can be reached by private car or public minivan services from the city.
The temple is surrounded by lush greenery and mountains, featuring a blend of Thai and Lanna architecture and pagodas. For those with more time, we recommend exploring Chiang Dao Cave. Inside the cave, you will find stunning stalactites and stalagmites, as well as Buddha statues and pagodas. The cave's cool and serene atmosphere provides a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
It's a must-visit destination if you have the chance to travel to Chiang Mai.

Phupha Mok Farm
#WinterTravel
Phu Pha Mok Farm, Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai Province
The most difficult accommodation to book at the moment because it fills up very quickly. Every angle is beautiful. The atmosphere is good both in the morning and evening. There are only 6 houses, all wooden houses, far apart from each other. There are private bathrooms but they are outside the house. It is very private. The view is beautiful at 360 degrees. Most importantly, there is a flower field for taking pictures and capturing the atmosphere with a mountain view. This year, the accommodation allows only guests to enter the garden. It is very private. You can choose the angle to take pictures as if the entire flower field is just you.

Let's go climb the third highest mountain in the country.
Today, we climbed the third highest mountain in the country with a view that is as close to the sky as you can see. I love it at night because I can see the stars so clearly. At first, I thought it would be difficult, but in 2022, the Doi Luang Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary prepared a good area for doing personal business. Preparing is like going on a normal hike. If you are mentally and physically ready, and have the money, we can do it.
On the first day before going up, there will be a training session in the afternoon. There will be fun activities and a lecturer to explain while we are up there. Let me tell you that when you come, you have to be responsible for the resources up there.
On the second day, our team hired porters. The total cost of 20 kg is 1,400 baht. If it exceeds, it is 70 baht per kg. As for the cost of sleeping, the total cost is not more than 2,500 baht per person. I will post it here so you can save money and wait.
On the day we walked up, the forest was quite humid, the soil was not very slippery, the sky was clear, and it did not rain. The important thing for climbing safely is trekking poles, which help reduce a lot of energy. The total distance from the starting point To the tent, it is about 8.9 kilometers, but the path seems far. Keep in mind that it is less than 10 kilometers. Let's do it!
As for food, bring enough for 5 meals. And all food waste and packaging must be collected and brought down. Especially if anyone urinates in a urine bag with silica gel, carry it down. This trip is very fun. The weather is good. It does not rain. There is no signal at the tent site. There is no light, but the moonlight is very bright.
Let's go everyone. It is not as difficult as you think.

Secret cafe in Chiang Dao District
#ChiangMaiTravel
☕️Today, we will take you to #ChiangMaiTravel to a specialty coffee shop hidden in Chiang Dao District. This shop is called "Tribe Coffee". You could call it a secret shop because we passed Chiang Dao District and found this shop without thinking that Chiang Dao would have such a good coffee shop.
☕️Coffee lovers who come to Chiang Dao should definitely not miss this shop. There are many types of beans to choose from, different levels of roasting, and many menus. They have a roasting factory and sell coffee beans. For those who are not coffee lovers, they have other menus. We tried many menus and they were very good. The baristas are very attentive. The prices are not expensive.
☕️Cafe hopping lovers who like taking pictures will not be disappointed. The shop is decorated from a Chiang Mai-style house, creating a warm, lovely, and friendly atmosphere. Plus, the soft sunlight makes for beautiful photos.
📍Location: Tribe Coffee, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province
⏰Open 08.00-16.00
Newly opened Chiang Dao accommodation
#Recommended accommodation, the only one in Thailand, "Triangular Village" #Newly opened on a small area that brings together the sky, mountains and stars to help heal your heart and relieve your exhaustion.
📍Phu Khao Season - Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai
.
A thousand-baht accommodation with a million-baht view, with 3 types of houses: an A-frame house, a glass triangle house, the owner of the accommodation named "Indian Glass House" and a tent. Each type is decorated cutely, with beautiful photo spots in every corner.
.
For anyone looking for a place to relax, I must say that this place is very suitable. The view is surrounded by mountains, the sky and stars at night, very romantic. P.S. The shabu here is very delicious.

Pa Pong Doi, Chiang Dao District. At night, watch the stars. During the day, watch the mountains.
Hello, everyone who craves for nature, wants to ride in a car and see the scenery in the countryside, wants to sleep on the ground, eat in the middle of the forest and mountains, especially eating grilled pork in the cool weather, I must say it's really great. And before we knew it, we were already at Doi Luang Chiang Dao, a mountain that is so beautiful that it's like being under a spell. No matter how many times you look at it, you never get bored. We've been up there many times, but we've never slept this close. And the accommodation that we chose today is Pa Pong Doi, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, an accommodation with a very beautiful view, because the view that we will see is the view of Doi Luang Chiang Dao. To travel, use Chotana Road, Highway No. 107, Chiang Mai - Mae Chan route, drive straight until you reach the Chiang Dao Provincial Court intersection. Turn left and drive along the rural highway, Ch. 3024. I recommend that you turn on GPS because the entrance is like, right or wrong? 555 But it's straight.
When I have a chance to stay, I will review the accommodation, Pa Pong Doi.

Chiang Dao - Mueang Khong, Thailand
Chiang Dao: A Little-Known Gem in Northern Thailand, which is stunningly beautiful and makes for a perfect weekend escape from Chiang Mai. The surrounding area and Pha Daeng National Park (formerly Chiang Dao) are popular for walking, hiking, and its local attractions.
How to get there:
Chiang Dao is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Chiang Mai and is easy to get to by motorbike, bus or private car. In Chiang Mai, there are numerous places where you can rent a motorbike for a few days. The cost to hire one depends on what type you choose; for a simple scooter, expect to pay roughly 200 Thai baht per day (US$6.50). For those who prefer the bus, hop on a local bus from Chiang Phueak Bus Station.
Baan O-zone
Baan O-zone is a home stay of Lisu people. There is located in Chaing Dao district. You will get along beautiful mountain and amazing atmostphere. If you love the camping, there is the one of most beatiful place for camping. Nice air, beautiful view and good service. Only 300B per person for you bring your equipment (Tent), include breakfast. Ban Lisu, Doi Luang Chiang Dao✨
Homestay with stunning view of Doi Luang Chiang Dao✨⛰ Highly recommended for those who want to experience without hiking:)
Price: Available in tents and small huts with private bathrooms (no heater and towels available). We stayed in 6 persons hut at THB 4000 on Nov 2022 included breakfast and local dinner set). You can also ordered Moo Kra Tha (similar to hotpot for grilled pork mostly and soup).
To get there:
1. By driving not really recommended as it a hillside with small road.
2. Local Driver pick up from Chiang Dao town area (eg. bus terminal or park your car at post office). The price round trip less than THB 500 per person(can’t remember the price exactly but worth it) Very nice and friendly uncle:)
3. Red Car (รถแดง) from Chiang Mai

The old temple with history where it is also one of famous attractions to visit when traveling to Chiangmai. The temple has a tunnel which was constructed a very long time ago and you can walk in through to see the architecture inside too. There is also a pond on another side of the temple where people go to feed the fish and birds and having some good shots of photos while doing that.#วัดไทย
Chiang Dao is a small village situated almost fifty miles north of Chiang Mai along the 107 highway and upto this point is essentially untouched by tourism. There is not a great deal to see and do in Chiang Dao other than visit us cave or the Wat Tham Pha Plong temple. You can even hike to the summit of Doi Chiang Dao from November until April. However, the reason we visited this place was for the local hot springs. I call them local because they were setup and are primarily used by the local villagers. They basically consist of a number of concrete pipe sections which have been used to create small hot tubs that can fit two to three people. They gradually decreased in temperature the closer you get to the stream which runs alongside. The stream also acts as a plunge pool to cool off in once you get too hot in the springs. Entrance is free and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Give it a go. you won't be disappointed.

Awesome Road trip in Chiang Dao
Less than 50 miles north of Chiang Mai in a fabulous jungle setting at the foot of Doi Chiang Dao mountain, Chiang Dao is a gateway to some excellent hiking and nature watching experiences, as well as being blessed with one of Thailand’s deepest and most interesting caverns marked by the venerated temple Wat Tham.
On Tuesday mornings a sprawling flea market takes over the town, and there are also some first rate restaurants to enjoy here all week too.
From Chiang Dao it’s just a half hour drive to Pha Daeng National Park, where there are some spectacular waterfalls and soothing hot springs.

A lovely house in the mountains in Mae Mae village, perfect for nature lovers and tree enthusiasts. There's a waterfall stream right in front of the house.
From the accommodation, you can walk to visit Pang Tad Waterfall.
Even though it's not winter yet, the night temperature is still 25 degrees, which is very pleasant.
I love the atmosphere; it feels like being in another world, very refreshing.
We got a rainy season promotion price, which is amazing at just 850฿ per person, including 2 meals (breakfast & dinner), available only from March to September.
From October to February, it's 1,000฿ per person, including breakfast & dinner.
The food is delicious and plentiful, almost too much to finish.

Baan Sai Mok Homestay, Chiang Dao
🏕️Baan Sai Mok Homestay, Chiang Dao, the view is like being transported into a Ghibli cartoon. The air is cool and comfortable. You can sit and relax in front of the accommodation. The food for both breakfast and dinner is very delicious. The accommodation costs hundreds but the view is worth it. They serve food in the evening and in the morning. The dry chili paste is delicious. I recommend buying the Losu chili paste to take home. Eating rice is 300% more delicious.
🏜️If you come in a group, you can choose a small house. If you come alone, there will be a tent area, but it is well-proportioned. There are places to sit and enjoy the view. You can go out and see Doi Luang Chiang Dao. At night, you can fully see the stars. I came in early November. The weather is quite cool at night, but it is a little hot during the day. I recommend going to the city and coming up after 2-3 p.m. The weather will not be too hot.
🚘As for coming here, if you don't have a private car, you can ask the accommodation. There will be local cars that usually go down to buy things in Chiang Dao City twice a day.

Doi Luang Chiang Dao
Doi Luang Chiang Dao is located in the Doi Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Dao District. The highest peak of Doi Chiang Dao is called Doi Luang Chiang Dao (derived from the local comparison that this mountain is as high as the stars). It is a limestone mountain with an inverted cone shape, standing over 2,000 meters above sea level. It is the third highest peak in the country, after Doi Inthanon and Doi Pha Hom Pok. From the narrow plateau at the summit, you can see the beautiful scenery all around, including the sea of mist over Chiang Dao District, Doi Sam Phi Nong, the Doi Chiang Dao mountain range, and even the distant peak of Doi Inthanon. The weather is cool, with strong winds, and the area is rich with rare mountain wildflowers, birds, and butterflies. To access the area, you must obtain permission from the Director of the Wildlife Conservation Division at least 15 days in advance. The journey to the summit of Doi Chiang Dao begins at Chiang Dao Cave, where tourists can arrange for guides, porters, and transportation to the starting point (Den Ya Khat). There are no facilities on Doi Chiang Dao, so you must bring your own camping equipment and food. The descent is commonly made via the Ban Tham route, which is near Chiang Dao Cave, as it is steeper and faster, but not suitable for ascending.
