You can also take a bus – the stop is next to the park; you can find the route on the map. What we didn't expect in Changchun was to find a beach, especially one with pink sand, and such a large one at that. This is actually a favorite recreation area for the locals—we were there on a Friday afternoon, and it felt like a weekend: there were lots of tents along the shore. Yes, the Chinese love to come on vacation, pitch a tent for the day, and relax in the shade. ⬇️The beach is located in a large park on the riverbank, and like all parks in China, there are recreation areas, cafes, paths, even a small embankment, and slides for children. There are also fountains on the river, and they say they put on some beautiful show in the evening. We stopped by the beach on our way to an Italian cafe (they're geographically close) and weren't expecting anything at all, but, guys, we liked it so much that we wanted to stay—get some food, lay a blanket right on the bright pink sand, watch the sunset, and simply enjoy the beach atmosphere—so unexpected for Changchun. By taxi, it costs around 15 ¥. 🔵Opening hours: 10:30 AM–10:30 PM This shopping mall appears in almost every travel guide on Dianping, likely due to its uniqueness. ⬇️Inside the building, there is a "mountain" (hence the name of the mall), and along its slopes, you'll find cafes, souvenir shops, and small stores. Most people come here to eat — the five floors offer everything from traditional northeastern Chinese cuisine to Korean BBQ and Japanese sushi. Of course, we couldn't miss such a place, especially since we love to eat. Moreover, the shopping mall is incredibly beautiful and unique. It's best to start at the top (it's more convenient that way) and then walk down the paths. We visited in the evening, and it was very crowded — it's a popular spot, as we mentioned earlier. 🕜 Like many things in China, The Hill has a beautiful story: a young monk lived in the mountains but learned that people in a nearby village were starving. He descended from the mountains to feed the villagers and has been revered ever since. At the entrance to the mall, there is a giant monk statue, and every day at 10:30 AM, a small show is held: like a puppet in a theater, the monk moves his arms and legs with the help of ropes. They say it's quite a spectacle. We didn't see the show, and to be honest, among the five floors of food, we couldn't find anything appealing — everything was too specific, and the places we wanted to try had long queues. So, we crossed the street and had dinner at a European restaurant in Wanda Mall. Nevertheless, The Hill is very beautiful and colorful, so we recommend you visit it too.

The Route 54 tram stops in front of the Changchun Film Studio on Hongqi Street. Just as we arrived, two vintage Route 54 trams were parked. Research reveals that the Route 54 trams, in operation since 1941, are nearly a century-old relic of Changchun. Their dark green carriages and wooden seats create a truly retro feel, and compared to the newer Route 54 trams next to them, they offer a more timeless aesthetic. Next to it is the "This Mountain" shopping mall, which has unexpectedly incorporated an entire mountain into its building! They've created a hiking trail and caves, cleverly integrating snacks, desserts, spicy skewers, snail noodles, and other cultural and creative merchandise. You can visit the Changchun Film Studio while walking along Hongqi Street, but you do need a ticket to enter!

Before my trip, I consulted numerous bloggers, books, groups, and trip.com for recommendations on numerous attractions. The table below summarizes the number of days I actually visited and the recommended number of days. I don't offer route recommendations because this depends on individual travel time and accommodation options. I entered Dalian and exited Changchun, avoiding backtracking. Address: No. 5, Guangfu North Road, Kuancheng District, Changchun City Ticket: ¥70 (No reservation needed, tickets can be purchased on-site via QR code) The first attraction I visited after arriving in Changchun and dropping off my luggage was the Puppet Manchurian Palace. Having already visited the Shenyang Imperial Palace before, I didn’t have high expectations for this one. Upon entering after scanning the QR code to buy a ticket, I was greeted by a musty smell, and to my surprise, there was no air conditioning despite it being summer, making the air inside quite stuffy. This place mainly showcases the living quarters of Puyi during his captivity. Since I’m not very familiar with or particularly interested in this part of history, I mostly just took photos as I walked around. Some rooms display Puyi’s personal belongings, while others were used as offices, reception rooms, studies, music rooms, or resting areas for nobles. Puyi’s own bedroom wasn’t particularly luxurious either. On the contrary, I found the exhibits on artifacts and the introduction to the roof carving art more intriguing. After touring the place, I suddenly felt I could understand the bitterness and helplessness of being the last emperor. 😮💨

I don't usually go out of my way to seek must-try foods during my travels, but if I happen to come across something special, I’ll definitely give it a try. Here are a few dishes I tried for the first time during this trip: ＊Guo Bao Rou: The texture is very similar to Taiwan's sweet and sour pork. (Forgot to take a photo 😰) ＊Iron Pot Stew: Seasonal variations include stewed chicken, duck, goose, ribs, etc. This time, I tried stewed chicken and stewed ribs. ＊Frozen Pears: Autumn pears that have been frozen, with the skin turning dark brown or black. They can be eaten directly or juiced. ＊Meat and Egg Bun: Sizzling on an iron plate, the crispy and fragrant dough is filled with meat and a fried egg. The aroma is irresistible—highly recommended! ＊Cold Noodles: I visited "State-Owned Cold Noodles" on Shanghai Road in Changchun. Despite its inconspicuous storefront, it was packed with locals. The cold noodles had a sweet and tangy flavor and came in a generous portion! (Forgot to take a photo again 😅) ＊Kvass: The taste is similar to rye juice or non-carbonated beer. ＊Madier Ice Cream Bar: Available in various flavors; I chose the original flavor. It was rich in milk taste and melted easily. ＊Birch Sap: This is the "heartbreaking plain water"! It has a faint fragrance and tastes somewhat like sugar water. The "heartbreaking" part comes from its price! ＊Pine Nuts: Fresh pine cones with scales that contain pine nuts. To eat, you peel off the scales one by one and nibble on the kernels (similar to sunflower seeds). They have a subtle salty taste. ＊Yellow-Skinned Watermelon: My first time seeing a yellow-skinned watermelon—it tastes just like regular watermelon. 🤣 ＊Physalis: Known as "lantern fruit" in Taiwan, it was in season and both delicious and affordable! There are actually many foods rarely seen in Taiwan. I look forward to trying more on my next visit to Northeast China!

*The Yongxing Morning Market is open from 6:00 to 11:00. I didn't specifically search for must-eats or must-buy items in Changchun this time, but I still found things I haven't seen at other morning markets in Northeast China (or perhaps I hadn't noticed), like cooking wine, various soy sauces, pomegranates, hazelnuts... and even freshly slaughtered "dog meat" (pictured for proof)! Seeing real dog meat for the first time was so… amazing!! Shocking! ‼ ️ Personally, I can't stomach eating dog meat! Eating dog meat is a tradition passed down from our ancestors, and it's rarely eaten by locals these days. After careful research, I discovered that the dog meat currently sold in Northeast China comes from legitimate farms, not stolen or stray dogs. Different cultures have different perceptions, so just treat it with respect! Guilin Road Coffee Street Finding a coffee shop with my travel companion was quite difficult, as we arrived early. Although the show was scheduled to start at 10:00, most shops were still closed. After walking through two or three alleys, we finally found one that was open. 20250821 Changchun Stroll Early in the morning—not really early, actually—we went to the Yongxing Morning Market. I ate my first pomegranate, but the terrifying dog meat stalls kept me on edge the whole day. Then we took a bus to Guilin Road to find some coffee. The cafes along the way were still closed, so I wasn't there early enough. Luckily, I turned down a side alley and found Coffee Alley, which opened at 10:00. The coffee was delicious, and the decor was soothing. After coffee, it would have been a shame not to make a pilgrimage to "Zhe You Shan." As soon as we got off the bus, it was packed. The entire mountain was lined with restaurants. I didn't want to squeeze in, so I walked across to take a picture of the 54 tram, but didn't get on it and headed back to the hotel. Changchun truly is a city you don't need to return to!

Changchun offers more than just the Puppet Emperor's Palace Museum; there are also several smaller attractions worth visiting: "Yongxing Market" is a large marketplace where you can find Northeast hazelnuts and, shockingly, whole unprocessed dog meat 😱. The prices for vegetables and fruits seem cheaper compared to other cities. "Chunjingxi Historical and Cultural District" is a trendy area where ancient Changchun architecture blends with modern buildings. It's a popular spot for social media photos. "Zhe You Shan" is a unique building filled with various snacks. It's often crowded, giving the impression that all tourists gather here. Right outside "Zhe You Shan" is the 54 Cultural Tourism Train, featuring retro green railway cars, another favorite photo spot for visitors. "Guilin Road" is known as the coffee street, lined with creatively decorated coffee shops.

The Puppet Emperor's Palace was slightly larger than I had imagined and not as boring as I expected. It mainly showcases Puyi's living quarters and office spaces. The museum provides an overview of Puyi's life, detailing his journey from emperor to citizen and his eventual reformation under the Communist government. Walking through the palace, I couldn't help but feel a sense of melancholy for Puyi. However, aside from being under Japanese surveillance, his material life seemed to have been quite comfortable, didn't it?
