🇫🇷 Calanques National Park in Cassis During my trip to Southern France, I visited the Calanques National Park located in Cassis, in the southern region of France! Ranked as the number one southern vacation spot by the French, this destination may not be widely known internationally, but it is truly beloved by the locals 🥰. Accessible only through trekking, it’s not the easiest place to reach, but once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by hidden emerald beaches and breathtaking sapphire-colored landscapes. Highly recommended! Additionally, as it’s near the last stretch of the Alps, there are many scenic viewpoints perfect for a drive 🔭. 📍Calanque de Port Pin A hidden emerald beach where you can swim. 📍Belvédère de Port Miou A spot with sapphire-like waters. The view of yachts docked here is stunning, and you can even watch people diving! 📍Rte des Crêtes Driving along this route offers access to numerous scenic viewpoints. However, the road is quite dangerous, so it’s not recommended for beginner drivers.

To get to 'Port-Miou', the starting point of the trekking, you have to pass by the residential areas and hotels of Cassis. When you wonder if this is the right path, a small and pretty beach unfolds. If you trust the map and keep going, you will see several yachts moored in the beautiful turquoise water port, and a magnificent limestone cliff appears as if it has been waiting for you. The pebble beach wasn’t very large, but the water was so clear that you could see the stones at the bottom as soon as you dipped your feet in. Children were playing and laughing in the water, while adults read books or lounged on the beach, taking naps. I sat by the water, gazing at the sea, and spent a long time lost in thought. Time seemed to flow effortlessly, and it felt far from wasted. The highlight of Cassis is undoubtedly the Calanques. This natural park, where rocky cliffs meet deep blue waters, can be explored by boat or accessed through trekking. I opted for a short boat tour to visit several points in the Calanques National Park. The emerald waters nestled between the towering cliffs were breathtakingly beautiful. On the way back, I ended the day perfectly with a dinner of seafood pasta paired with local white wine at a small restaurant near the harbor. #myhiddengems If you happen to be in Marseilles and looking for a fantastic day trip. This turquoise water gem, Cassis would make for a perfect choice. Actually given what it offers and what it costs, I would even recommend a stay here. Amongst my favourite destinations in the south of France. This decently priced coastal town with its season side charms and visuals, has even been called the poor man's st. tropez. A drive from Marseilles would typically take you about 40 minutes or if you are on your own. I took a train from Marseille that didn't cost much and only took about 20-25 minutes. I had met a family here that came straight from the airport by taxi. I think that's a great idea too and might set you back by 100 bucks or so but very convenient. Cassis, besides it own sights is also located nearby some places of tourist interest. I was lucky that it was lavender season and so visited the neighbouring town of Aix en Provence. There is the option of La ciotat as well. In terms of local sights and transport. There is the usual set of churches, vineyards dn castles worthy of a visit. I comfortably did that with public buses. The food was a delight as with most of France. Cassis is a holiday destination for many French people. It is a typical southern French town that has gradually extended around the fishing port. Like many southern French towns, it has a long history of wine production and is full of charming buildings and a variety of delicious food. The most attractive thing about the Cassis harbor is the row of colorful old houses lined up on the shore, which are dyed golden under the setting sun. The local wine was rated as AOC third-grade excellent wine as early as 1936. French poet Frederic Mistral also once said: 'It's in vain to go to Paris without going to Cassis.'

It is a small port town surrounded by cliffs and boasts a spectacular view. I recommend the Calanques Tour, where you can take a boat and look at the cliffs. If you have time, you can also hike the cliffs yourself. If you want a beautiful and leisurely trip, I highly recommend it! The seafood dishes are also inexpensive, so be sure to try them.

While looking for tours or places to visit in the Cassis area, I decided to take a Calanques boat tour because the sea is so beautiful. Calanque means 'a small bay surrounded by rocks in the Mediterranean', and there are quite a few calanques in Cassis. They say the sea color is prettier in the morning, so I definitely recommend taking a boat tour in the morning. The sea water is really blue and clear like turquoise, so it stands out between the cliffs made of strange rocks. The basic course is to take a boat to the 3 calanques and return, and it costs 16 euros per person and takes about 45 minutes. Since you are riding a small boat that can accommodate 8 people or less, you can feel the speed and it is a great tour to take pictures or videos.
