CHAPTER 01
🥕 Interactive Feeding Adventure with Marmots
This season, marmots are joyfully frolicking and rolling in the Alps, darting across high meadows or perking up their ears to spot hikers carrying tasty snacks (especially their favorite carrots and apples). These fluffy little creatures await your arrival with eager eyes.
Nestled at the border of Salzburg and Styria, Bachlalm sits against the Dachstein Mountains, facing the stunning vistas of Filzmoos and Ramsau. What’s remarkable here are the wild marmot colonies that not only aren’t shy around visitors but may even approach for treats, adding fun to your hike.
Owners Astrid and Michael have created a family-friendly paradise. Visitors can take a shuttle bus or enjoy a gentle one-hour walk to reach the farm.
At the farm, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking Alpine panoramas: the rugged Rötelstein peak, the majestic Dachstein South Face, and the rolling Lower and High Tauern ranges. The newly renovated sun terrace is perfect for soaking in these views, while the climbing tree and swings let kids unleash their energy.
CHAPTER 02
🦙 Nature Hike with Alpacas
Picture strolling along Austria’s picturesque trails, sunlight warming your shoulders, with a gentle alpaca by your side, curiously observing the world. This isn’t a dream—it’s a real alpaca hike you can experience. These fluffy companions, with their endearing looks and soothing presence, turn an ordinary walk into a healing nature retreat.
From Maria Anzbach’s forest paths to Pillerseetal’s snowy pastures, Austria offers diverse alpaca hikes. Whether amid Dörflgraf’s idyllic scenery, Seefeld’s alpine lakes, or Hall Wattens’ gorges, you’ll cherish time with these Andean natives.
For example, at Buchberg between Vienna and St. Pölten, you can join group or private 2-3 hour hikes. Guides first teach how to interact with alpacas before you lead them through Vienna Woods. Kids aged 6+ can also hold the reins of these well-trained animals.
Group hike (2h): €30/person
Group hike (3h): €40/person
Private hike (2-3h): €150-280
(Price varies by group size/duration)
Ideal for families, alpaca hikes create unforgettable memories. As children pet their soft fur and match their steady pace, they connect with nature and learn gentle animal care. These four-legged guides weave unique Alpine tales for every family.
