It gets very crowded in the afternoons due to the large local population, but if you visit Egypt, be sure to stop by!♬ [Sightseeing Points] -- ○ It's so huge, you can spend hours here. I originally planned to stay for about two hours, but before I knew it, four hours had passed. Even so, I still hadn't seen everything... It got dark, so I headed back. → If you want to buy souvenirs or do a variety of shopping, it's best to spend half a day there. ○ It gets crowded with locals in the evening, but the lanterns for sale are lit up and it's very beautiful. → I went around 4 PM because I wanted to see both the lively daytime atmosphere and the glowing lanterns. ○ Egypt's famous shai (mint tea with sugar) has a mild, refreshing taste, making it perfect for a break! If you can find it, be sure to give it a try!! This area is the world's largest man-made waste processing site and home to the Zabaleen, the "scavenger people." Two-thirds of the city's garbage is processed by them, and the spaces between buildings are filled with trash, leaving almost no gaps. In this crowded and foul-smelling environment, their faith is held high. Children are born into this environment, and locals told us they have never attended school. From birth, they help adults sort and process garbage day and night. The children here haven't even learned to say "one dollar," but when they see us passing by, they curiously run over to greet us. Despite living in such conditions, they possess pure and radiant smiles. The road to the church is filled with stench, but the century-old Cave Church at the end of the path feels like a world apart. 📍 Taxi Location: St. Simon "The Tanner" Monastery 🚕 Transportation: Uber/Didi International ⚠️ It's easy to get a ride uphill but difficult to find one downhill. It's recommended to negotiate a round trip with the driver 💰 and have them wait at the entrance. Khan el-Khalili Market was truly fascinating. As soon as I entered, I was captivated by the atmosphere filled with spices and various goods. Walking through the narrow alleys, chatting with vendors, and negotiating prices while buying and selling items was quite enjoyable. Through this process, I could directly experience Egypt's vibrant daily life and culture. Metal crafts, spices, and traditional clothing particularly stood out. The unique designs and colors were incredibly charming, and holding various handmade items in my hands allowed me to feel the distinct allure of this place. Although the market was bustling, it added to the lively atmosphere, and interacting with the vendors was a delightful experience. You can also visit the surrounding historical buildings and cafes, making it possible to enjoy not just shopping but a variety of experiences. It's one of the largest churches in Egypt and among the largest Christian worship centers in the Middle East. ⛪️ It was actually dug out by scavengers! The history of the Cave Church dates back to the 1970s. At that time, Cairo's Zabbaleen (garbage collector) community was forced to relocate near Mokattam Hills due to urban development. Most of these residents were Christians, and they dug caves in the mountainside, transforming them into churches as places for religious activities. .
