A forgotten historic town in Cordoba
Andalucia Tour ~ Cordoba (Region)
A municipality located in the southern part of Córdoba province, at the foot of the Sierra Subetic Mountains. Surrounded by olive groves and organic orchards, the city appears stately and peaceful.
Cabra's sights include the Rio Fountain, the magnificent castle, the 17th-century Baroque church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (built on the floor plan of a mosque), and San Juan Bautista, built between the 16th and 18th centuries. Also worth mentioning is the Puerta del Sol and the numerous ancestral houses around it.

The different elements work together to provide integrity to the ancient mountain town of Cabra.
In fact, these are three distinct elements that together provide a complete and accessible introduction to the ancient mountain town of Cabra.
The Castle of Condes de Cabra (or Duques de Sessa) is a fortress of Arab origin, rebuilt in the 14th century. Parts of the original buildings are well preserved (walls, ramparts, corner towers). Particularly noteworthy is the majestic castle, which is 20 meters high.
Fuente del Río (Source of the River) is a natural park whose layout and design include gardens and picnic areas. The source is a karst spring, the source of the Cabra River. It is located next to the first spur of the Cabra Mountains.
Some of the defensive walls and cylindrical towers of the old city walls are still visible

The precious red marble church in the surrounding area
Andalusia Tour ~ Cordoba
The precious red veined marble from the Cabra Mountains reaches its architectural and sculptural splendour in this great Baroque cathedral.
The red (and black) marble of Cabra is used extensively in this magnificent church, which was rebuilt between the 17th and 18th centuries on the site of a former mosque. For example, it was used to support the 44 columns of the barrel vaults of the five naves. This great altarpiece is the work of Melchor de Aguirre (1674), following a design by the architect and altarpiece maker José Granados de la Barrera, who was actually a native of Cabra.
Granados was involved in the design of the Granada Cathedral. He also designed the main nave, transepts, vaults, and towers, which were rebuilt in bare brick. The main and side doors are also Baroque in style, with appliqués, capitals and red marble Solomon columns.
