The rules for visiting Borobudur are quite strict. All tourists must enter with the group and are not allowed to leave the group. The entire process will be accompanied by a tour guide. Our group entered the ruins in sequence within the designated time. The tour guide was very attentive and carefully explained the history and meaning of each carving, which gave us a deeper understanding of this thousand-year-old pagoda. However, before I had the chance to appreciate it in detail, or even take limited photos, when the tour time was up, the staff reminded us that we had to leave because the next group of tourists were already waiting outside. It is a pity to see the beautiful scene of the pagoda in the morning light but only be able to take a quick glance at it. It takes about an hour to visit Borobudur, and it is recommended to wear the local grass shoes to the top as a sign of respect. 🚗 Transportation and accommodation: We chose to stay near Malioboro Street in Yogyakarta. The cost of a car for five people is about CNY 200-300. The car picks you up at 7:00 am, and it takes about an hour to get to the attraction. 📌 Tips: The climate in Yogyakarta is very hot, so it is recommended to book the first visit in the morning to avoid the scorching sun. It takes about 10-11 hours from queuing to the end of the tour. ⛰️ Things to do: You need to make a reservation in advance to climb to the top of Borobudur. The ticket includes an entrance ticket, a ticket to the top, grass shoes, and an English-speaking guide. We booked a time slot at 8:30 am. Although the temperature in Yogyakarta is very high, it is recommended to visit the top in the morning. The price of the ticket to the top is about IDR 445,000 (about CNY 210). If you like taking photos, be sure to take photos as soon as possible and try to follow the guide's pace to learn more about the history of the stupa. The scenery in Magelang and its surroundings is quite unique. At that time, I honestly just chose nalendro borobudur to fill my stomach and to have a place to pray when passing through Magelang. Nalendro is also close to Borobudur Temple, less than 3 km away. It turns out that Nalendro looks even more beautiful in person than it does on social media--including in this Reel. It's really ideal to visit in the afternoon, although we had to miss the sunset because we didn't want to arrive too late in Yogyakarta. The afternoon is very pleasant sitting in the outdoor area, which is a cactus garden. They say it’s similar to a desert in Arizona, but I’ve never been there so I don’t want to make a mistake. Nalendro's cactus garden is well-maintained, providing a beautiful view facing the hills. An hour doesn’t feel enough to do everything--eating, enjoying the view, praying, and taking content. We didn’t even have time to take a video of the shaded area protected by trees, an ideal seating area if you visit during the day. My visit to Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Indonesia was eye opening. Located about 1 hours drive to Yogyakarta, it was akin to stepping into a world of ancient wonders. If you have been there, you would agree that this massive temple, built over 1,000 years ago, is truly a breathtaking architectural marvel. Currently (as of March 2024), we can now have full access to the temple structure but there is a daily limit of 1,200 visitors. I highly recommend getting the Temple Guided Tour ticket from Trip.com, as opposed to the Borobudur Temple Tickets, as having a guide that explains a brief history of the temple, the carvings on the wall, the religious context etc makes a world of difference. Watching the sunrise at Punthuk Setumbu near Yogyakarta was an awesome adventure! We woke up super early, starting our journey from Yogyakarta City at 3:45 am. It took us about 15 minutes to climb up the hill. When we reached the top, we waited for about 30 mins before the sky started to turn pink and orange. The the sun peeked over the horizon at 5:45 am. It was so beautiful! We could see the whole area around us lighting up with the morning sun. Even though we were tired from waking up early, seeing the sunrise made it all worth it. Borobudur stands majestically at the centre of an attractive assembly of traditional rice-growing village, surrounded by volcanic peaks in Kedu Valley in Central Java. The temple compund spans an area of about 2500 square metres, which makes it one if not the largest in the world. Despite being intimated by its sheer size, we had to start the adventure. At the entrance of the temple, we were welcomed by a great challenge. The steps required to climb to the first level, not to mention the number of other sightseers clambering up the steps, feels daunting. Tackling the steep steps requires commitment, thoigh I had to occasionally stop to catch my breath. The temple usuallu opens at 6 AM. However, you can be in the area at around 5 AM to witness the mesmerising transformation of the temple’s stupas and reliefs, as they bathe in the golden rays of the morning sun. While this trip might already fulfill my wishlist to visit and experience ancient and historical places, this just made me wish is to see more. I still wish to see similar structures on the other side of the continent. I wish conquer the Mayas and the Incas and see similarities and differences. #2023travelwish
