The scenery in Magelang and its surroundings is quite unique. At that time, I honestly just chose nalendro borobudur to fill my stomach and to have a place to pray when passing through Magelang. Currently (as of March 2024), we can now have full access to the temple structure but there is a daily limit of 1,200 visitors. I highly recommend getting the Temple Guided Tour ticket from Trip.com, as opposed to the Borobudur Temple Tickets, as having a guide that explains a brief history of the temple, the carvings on the wall, the religious context etc makes a world of difference. Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its history can be traced back to the seventh and eighth centuries. The six-story platform has more than 2,000 reliefs and 504 life-size Buddha statues. What is amazing is that no adhesive was used in the construction of the pagoda. More than two million stones are all built with mortise and tenon joints. If you come to Jogja, you can't miss the two World Heritage sites, Borobudur and Prambanan 🔥 This time, we booked a private local tour and had a local guide who is fluent in Japanese guide us efficiently to the two ruins.
