2024 Bodufinolhu Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Barcelo Whale Lagoon Maldives
Barcelo opened in 2022, and we were among its first guests. The island is artificial and still lacks full greenery, but this did not affect our vacation. The transfer is by seaplane and takes about 20 minutes. The staff is very attentive and hardworking. We stayed in a beach villa, which was very spacious and featured an impressive bathroom. I recommend villas 128 to 132. The hotel’s atmosphere does not resemble the classic Maldives; it feels more like the Dominican Republic or the Caribbean.
Regarding beach characteristics and the best areas to stay: the island has two sides—sunrise and sunset. The sunrise side has a calmer lagoon. It is also worth noting that the island’s artificial nature is noticeable. The sand can be coarse in some places, and the entry into the water is generally gradual, but there are occasional coral fragments in varying amounts. I recommend wearing water shoes for a more comfortable experience.
The sunset side has a reef, with constant wind and waves. If you swim out further, there is a current. The resort positions itself as a Soft Club Concept and will be divided into two zones. There are two pools: one is lively, with daytime activities and animation, while the other is quieter, intended for relaxation. Guests can choose what suits them best.
The quality of the food was excellent, with good-quality ingredients. If you want something that is not on the menu, you can speak to the chef, and they will do their best to accommodate you. The resort is very guest-focused in this regard.
In terms of privacy, it is not at the highest level.
Service may have minor delays, which is typical for new resorts as the team adjusts and finds its rhythm.
I should also mention the high-quality tableware, excellent bed linens, and branded towels. In these areas, Barcelo’s standards are well upheld.
Additionally, the hotel is located in the South Ari Atoll, where seasonal excursions to see whale sharks and manta rays are available. #maldives #tophotels
A hotel that dares to include whale shark in its name | The only one in the Maldives
Spain's ultra-high-end holiday brand--Barcelo finally came to the Maldives, writing a new chapter in the service of soft club-style hotels. Barcelo Whale Shark Bay belongs to the luxury medium-sized island, its luxury and fully equipped basic configuration brings a comfortable and considerate holiday experience, the romantic island atmosphere brings a quiet and interesting unique experience. There is currently no children's club on the island, so it is more suitable for snorkeling enthusiasts, friends, honeymoon guests.
Of course, it also has most of the problems that new islands will face. The vegetation on the island is relatively sparse, and it will be a bit sunburned when walking on the road. I believe that in two years, the vegetation will be much lush.
