St Trinity Church Bansko ⛪️
#churches
I recently visited St. Trinity Church in Bansko, and it was a highlight of my trip! ⛪ Nestled in the heart of this charming mountain town, the church boasts stunning architecture and beautiful frescoes that truly capture the essence of Bulgarian culture. Entrance is free, making it an easy stop while exploring the area.
The atmosphere inside was peaceful, and I loved taking some time to reflect amidst the beautiful icons and vibrant colors. After my visit, I wandered around the town, enjoying the quaint streets and cozy cafés. I even stopped for a traditional Bulgarian meal nearby, which was delicious and affordable—around 20 BGN.
If you’re in Bansko, don’t miss the chance to visit this lovely church; it adds a touch of history and culture to your mountain adventure!

A WELL PRESERVED HISTORICAL HOUSE!
The House Museum of Neofit Rilski (1793 – 1881), the founder of secular education in Bulgaria and the first Bulgarian encyclopaedist, is situated next to the Holy Trinity Church in Bansko. The building is also known as Beninata kashta (Benin’s House) and was constructed in the 18th century.
Benin’s House is located in a large yard surrounded by stone walls and a solid wooden gate. The building is a typical representative of the Bansko fortified houses. It was declared a monument of architectural and constructional significance by virtue of publication in State Gazette, issue No 87 of 1967.

A FORTIFIED VELYAN'S HOUSE!
Velyan’s House in Bansko is located near the central square of the town and the Holy Trinity Church. The building is an example of the architectural style – a fortified house of the Bulgarian Revival Period (end of the 18th century – beginning of the 19th century). It was opened to visitors in 1977.
Velyan’s House was built in the 18th century and was a modern two-storey building made of stone and wood. The ground level consists of a cellar and two interconnected hiding places. During the Ottoman rule, many Bulgarians built fortified houses with secret rooms where to hide from the raids of the Turks. A stone staircase in the antechamber to the hiding place connects it to the residential level of the building where the living-room, the drawing-room, the room for women, and the working room are situated.

NATIONAL SYMBOL OF BULGARIA!!
St. Trinity Church in Bansko (Bulgarian: Църква Св. Троица) is an Eastern Orthodox church building in Bansko. It is one of the finest examples of the middle and late Bulgarian National Revival church architecture.
The church does not impress with its size, but it is a national symbol of the Bulgarian Revival in its period immediately after the Bulgarian National Awakening. For several reasons.
The first from awake Bansko was a native of Paisii Hilendarski, author of Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya. Second from Bansko is Neofit Rilski. And third, as awake and wealthy residents of Bansko want to be in charge during the Bulgarian Revival, so the construction of this church coincides with the preparation of the Bulgarian Conspiracy of 1835.

MESMERISING PIRIN NATIONAL PARK!
Pirin National Park (Bulgarian: Национален парк "Пирин"), originally named Vihren National Park, encompasses the larger part of the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, spanning an area of 403.56 square kilometers (155.82 sq mi).
It is one of the three national parks in the country, the others being Rila National Park and Central Balkan National Park. The park was established in 1962 and its territory was expanded several times since then. Pirin National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The elevation varies from 950 meters (3,120 ft) to 2,914 meters (9,560 ft) at Vihren, Bulgaria's second highest summit and the Balkans' third.
The park is situated in Blagoevgrad Province, the nation's southwesternmost region, on the territory of seven municipalities: Bansko, Gotse Delchev, Kresna, Razlog, Sandanski, Simitli, and Strumyani. There are no populated places within its territory. Two nature reserves are located within the boundaries of Pirin National Park: Bayuvi Dupki–Dzhindzhiritsa and Yulen. Bayuvi Dupki–Dzhindzhiritsa is among the oldest in Bulgaria, established in 1934 and is included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves under the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme.[1] The whole territory is part of the network of nature protection areas of the European Union, Natura 2000.
Pirin is renowned for its 118 glacial lakes, the largest and the deepest of them being Popovo Lake. Many of them are situated in cirques.
There are also a few small glaciers, such Snezhnika, located in the deep Golemiya Kazan cirque at the steep northern foot of Vihren, and Banski Suhodol. They are the southernmost glaciers in Europe.
Pirin National Park falls within the Rodope montane mixed forests terrestrial ecoregion of the Palearctic temperate broadleaf and mixed forest. Forests cover 57.3 percent of the parks area and almost 95 percent of them are coniferous forests.
The average age of the forests is 85 years. Bulgaria's oldest tree, Baikushev's pine, is located in the park. With an approximate age of about 1,300 years, it is a contemporary of the foundation of the Bulgarian state in 681 CE.
The fauna of the Pirin National Park is diverse and includes 45 species of mammals, 159 species of birds, 11 species of reptiles, 8 species of amphibia, and 6 species of fish.

Food in Bansko, Bulgaria 🇧🇬
#resortstyle #bansko #bulgaria #skiing #food
Bulgaria is known for hearty meals but also for their salads! You could go into a restaurant and go through 2 pages of menu and still be looking at salad options. Yes – they love their greens!
As we discussed in our Sofia article, Bulgarians enjoy their salads as starters, typically with their local brandy, called Rakia. When eating out, sharers similar to tapas are also quite popular.
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Bulgaria-Pirin Mountain and Old Town
Day 3 of our road trip. We went for a hike in the Pirin Mountain. The trees and grass were green and brown when we started hiking up the steep, stony path. It started snowing heavily, and we had to turn back as the hike became difficult with the slippery snow-covered path. The snow covered the trees, the path, and the grass, turning everything white. We were fortunate to witness this transformation 😎.
After the hike, we took a stroll in the old town and tried Bulgarian cuisine at The House. The food was fantastic 👍🏻
Bulgaria-Bansko n Vitosha
Day2 of road trip - Arrived at Sofia airport, collected my car and drove to Vitosha. It was a beautiful road up the mountain with trees in autumn colors. We were halfway up until it become too foggy and rained so we had to abort the drive up due to safety concerns.
Went to our accommodation at Bansko it was a nice local style cosy apartment.
Walked around the town but all the shops were closed so the next best choice was the supermarket to buy groceries and cook our dinner at the apartment 😄

I just returned from an amazing trip to Bansko, Bulgaria, and it was everything I hoped for and more! 🏔️ Nestled in the Pirin Mountains, this charming town is a perfect winter getaway. I went skiing at the Bansko Ski Resort, where the lift pass cost around 70 BGN for a day. The slopes were well-maintained, catering to all levels, and the views were absolutely breathtaking!
After a day on the slopes, I explored the town's cobblestone streets, filled with cozy restaurants and shops. I tried some local dishes like banitsa and kavarma, and they were delicious! 🍽️ The après-ski scene was lively, with many bars offering warm drinks and a friendly atmosphere.
I also took a day to visit the nearby Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was about a 90-minute drive away and totally worth it. Bansko is the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, making it a must-visit destination!

The city itself offers some great features of typical Bulgarian architecture for this region. The main street offers many shops and boutiques where tourists can buy souvenirs or ski/snowboard equipment.
If you go further towards the city centre, you will find many Mehanas which are typical traditional Bulgarian taverns.

Food in Bansko, Bulgaria
On the slopes you will find that most restaurants are owned by the same company. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the food, actually it’s quite tasty, we found that prices can be quite high.
This accompanied by a long wait time might not be what a hungry skier is looking for. We therefore suggest you also look into some of the restaurants on the way to the gondola station in Bansko.
Places like Peshterite for instance offer amazing home cooked food at decent prices. If you do go there, do try their home made sausage – it’s to die for!

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Skiing in Bansko
#bucketlistreboot
We have been skiing in Bansko for a few years now. Here is some useful information if you are considering.
In summary, the slopes are as follows: Type of Pistes: 6 Blue Pistes
8 Red Pistes
1 Black Piste
2 Ski Routen Pistes
Ski Lifts:
14 – 1 Gondola
9 Chair Lifts
4 Surface lifts
We would recommend to go to the top, the plateau area. From there you can start yourself off by heading to the Goat Cabin for a good (machine made) cup of coffee. The view – stunning!
In general the slopes don’t present much difficulty and are generally wide. For the warmer winters we found that they do try to add as much artificial snow as they can – so you won’t miss out on your holiday.
