[Europe][Spain] Food & Gastronomy in Spain vol. 1: General observations and tips

It's been more than 9 months since I first landed in Barcelona Airport and I have been living in Spain predominantly since then. Here are some tips and observations in the eyes of a foreigner: 1. 5 meals a day! 2. Restaurant opening hours: lunch and dinner start at around 1-2pm and 8-8:30pm respectively 3. Latte: order "cafe con leche" or "cafe latte"; one might end up getting a cup of warm milk if ordering "latte" 4. Olives: it is common to be offered a plate of olives in restaurants 5. Many great places for food of different price ranges: from the food market, the tapas bar, the "casa" restaurants, to Michelin star restaurants 6. Tapas! (to be covered in next post) 7. Many good local wine and reasonably priced. I recommend trying out different cava, red wine (e.g. tempranillo), white wine (e.g. verdejo), fortified wine (e.g. sherry), etc. 8. Some renowned food in Spain include iberian pork, olive oil, churros, paella, jamón, etc.

Llobregat delta - a gem in Barcelona

absolutely off the beaten path and not on the list of most visitors, the entire area of the delta of the Llobregat river is absolutely stunning. Lots of protected walkways bike paths and nature preserves, with watershed and many species of migratory birds. If you love nature it is absolutely worth a short side trip from the airport and into the delta area. just beautiful and relaxing ##Llobregat

Flying over Montserrat

The Aeri de Montserrat cable car is a popular tourist attraction in Barcelona, Spain. It was built in 1930 and travels at a speed of 5 meters per second. The cable car takes visitors on a breathtaking journey over the Llobregat River and Valley, up the mountain, and right up to Montserrat Monastery. The journey lasts exactly five minutes and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The cable car has a maximum capacity of 35 people, and visitors can enjoy the experience with approximately 20 other people . The cable car station building has a unique design and is worth checking out. Visitors can choose from a variety of ticket options depending on their travel plans. The cable car is not for the faint-hearted, as it travels 1350 meters up the mountain in a small hanging car. However, if you are not afraid of heights, you should be in for a really exhilarating experience. #christmastrip

The world of Sushi and it is all yours!🇪🇸

There are restaurants and Restaurants. Most of them you forget and only a very few you want to go again and only a very few you want to go again and again and again! This happened to us on our recent trip to Spain, My wife is Asian and always had an eye on where to eat. Only a few places are approved by her! Sushisom is one of them! There are 300 different meals and it is difficult to make. choice. There are not only sushi’s but also seafood platters, grilled fish and shrimps, vegetables, soups, even sliced veal steak. All of them very delicious and yes the presentation is also first class! Since it is an all-you-can-eat buffet we tried about 40 different dishes! However there is a fine if you order and don’t eat up! So the next time I travel to Spain I will have lunch at Sushisom again! How to get there: by car or Renfe to Casteldefels. Then walk 13min. by bus E95 from Plaza Cataluña It is on the ground floor of ANECBlau Mall. There are of course many Sushisom restaurants in other cities in Spain! So don’t hesitate, come and try. You won’t regret! And yes after the meal go shopping in the Mall! #foodie #urbanexplorer #staycation

From the train station walk straight through the pedestrian street to the Plaza de la iglesia with Santa Maria church (photo 3&4) and town hall (photo 2). From there go to the right and then up to the castle. From there to the ANECBlau Mall, to the Olympic Channel to the beach!
