Ba Be Lake (Bac Kan province) is about 220km from Hanoi, one of the 20 largest natural freshwater lakes in the world, with extremely beautiful and pristine scenery, delicious and cheap food, and fresh air. I would like to share with everyone some moments during the trip of 7 girls (including a 4-year-old girl).
In Ba Be, there are 2 main villages, Pac Ngoi and Bo Lu, both of which have services for renting motels or staying at homestays, many places are right next to the lake, very poetic.
We stayed at Quynh Mai homestay in Bo Lu village, the Tay family owner is very friendly and attentive. If you don't like staying at a homestay, you can choose to stay at a motel or hotel in Nam Mau commune. However, the hotels here are probably only 1 star, the largest hotel is Saigon - Ba Be with about 3 stars.
Itinerary
Day 1
- Rent a motorbike to explore the places near the lake such as Na Phoong cave, Pac Ngoi village, Tat Man waterfall... This waterfall has a lot of water, has steps up and down, and there are pools at the foot of the waterfall where you can swim. If you want to swim here, you can bring your swimsuit. The waterfall is high up so the sunset is very beautiful. The scenery below, if you go around September - October, you can see the ripe rice fields. As for us, we went in July, when the rice was just planted.
- At 6pm, return to the homestay (we had booked meals in advance), eat, shower, rest, and chat.
Day 2:
- At 5am, wake up to watch the sunrise, clouds floating on the mountain top. The scenery is quiet and fresh like a fairyland. At 8am, we started the main plan of the trip, which is to visit Ba Be Lake.
- There are 4 tours for you to choose from. The 6-hour tour will visit all the main tourist attractions. The boat has a maximum of 10 people, so if the group is large, it will save even more money. Our group also chose this tour. The remaining tours are 4 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour and a half, but we will not visit all of the above but only choose the places to go. All boats are equipped with life jackets. As for the ticket price, you can rest assured that Ba Be National Park has listed it, so you don't have to worry about being ripped off.
- Take a boat on the lake, stop by Puong cave (very beautiful stalactites), Dau Dang waterfall, King pond (extremely clear water, considered a sacred place)... and take 10,000 virtual photos. The water here is green and clear (even though I only used an iPhone7).
- Have lunch on the boat with a tray of super delicious, firm, fragrant chicken sticky rice that we asked the homestay owner to make for us (price 400k). If you don't like this style, you can go to the small restaurants opened by the locals in Hua Tang village near Dau Dang waterfall.
- Passing a small island with many trees jutting out into the water, we suggested the boat driver anchor to enjoy splashing around in the cool blue water of the largest natural "swimming pool" in Vietnam. The water is so clear that you can see schools of small fish swimming around. Our group also stopped here for quite a while because the tour time is 6 hours, visiting all 4 places takes less than 4 hours. Total cost of the trip (including round-trip bus ticket from Hanoi, homestay, 1 breakfast, 2 main meals, boat rental): 1000-1000k/person.
