Flower in Bloom at Ascott: A Dreamy English Garden Escape
#cityplaybook
There’s something truly magical about stepping into Ascott House during flower season. Located near Wing in Buckinghamshire, this National Trust gem comes alive in spring and early summer with vibrant blooms that transform the estate into a living painting. I visited in late May, and it was nothing short of breathtaking.
From the moment you walk through the gates, you’re greeted by well-kept gardens that burst with color and fragrance. The formal gardens frame the house beautifully, but it’s the informal flower beds, wild meadows, and peaceful woodland paths that really caught my heart. Walking among tulips, wisteria, and peonies in full bloom, I felt a deep sense of calm and inspiration. Every corner offered a perfect photo opportunity – but beyond the lens, it was simply healing to be among such natural beauty.
What mattered most to me was the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike busier estates, Ascott retains a quiet charm – perhaps due to its limited opening hours and hidden-gem status. There’s space to breathe, reflect, and just enjoy the moment.
Best Time to Visit:
Late April through June is ideal. May is especially stunning when most flowers are in full bloom. Try to visit on a weekday if you can – fewer visitors mean more time to soak in the tranquility.

Historical Scot monument
The Scott Monument in Edinburgh, Scotland, is one of the most important landmarks in the city. It was built in 1844 to honor Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland’s greatest writers. Here’s why it’s significant:
1. Literary Tribute
The monument celebrates Sir Walter Scott, whose novels and poems played a key role in shaping Scottish national identity. His works, such as Ivanhoe, Waverley, and The Lady of the Lake, popularized Scotland’s history and culture worldwide.
2. Architectural Marvel
Designed by George Meikle Kemp, the monument is a striking example of Victorian Gothic architecture. Standing at 200 feet 6 inches (61.11 meters), it is one of the largest monuments dedicated to a writer anywhere in the world.
3. Symbol of Edinburgh
The Scott Monument is a defining feature of Edinburgh’s skyline, located in Princes Street Gardens. It represents the city’s deep literary heritage, complementing its status as a UNESCO City of Literature.
4. Cultural and Touristic Importance
Visitors can climb its 287 steps to enjoy panoramic views of Edinburgh. Inside, it houses statues of characters from Scott’s novels, emphasizing his impact on literature and culture.
5. National Pride
As one of Scotland’s most revered literary figures, Scott’s influence on Scottish history and folklore is immense. The monument serves as a permanent reminder of his contributions to literature and the Romantic movement.
