It is spectacular up here and daikanbo lookout is one of the best lookout points here in kumamoto. Do check weather conditions before heading to Daikanbo lookout. It was raining when I was there and sadly my views were of lower visibility and it was also foggy and cloudy, with strong winds. However, it was still a great experience being at Daikanbo lookout and it is not difficult getting here, just to enjoy the great views. Daikanbo lookout is a definite must go!

There is a shopping area and also a cafe with many seats available. Explore the shopping area where you can grab confectionaries, cookies, cakes, milk and cheese to bring home. The cafe area serves superb milky and creamy soft serve which i like so much, do try their cheese tart and aso fresh milk too. Somehow, everything just taste better and fresher here! Yums!

#newyearnewtrip The all famous Aso Shrine may not be the biggest or the grandest shrine in Japan but it is stands beautifully in all its grandeur. The whole shrine is rich in history and it still looks majestic and well preserved. It is believed that the aso shrine is as old as two thousand years old, making it one the oldest shinto shrine in Japan. Admire it's architectural details and designs and how amazing such a shrine can be built in the past, with little tools and technology. I love how serene and peaceful this whole place is. It is not over crowded like how shrines are in Japan. There is even a koi pond outside the aso shrine, where you can admire the kois and feed them. Beautiful!

At level 1 of the hotel, there is a cozy, light and modern communal space for all to use. This space reminds me of a cafe, where one can dine and drink together or just chill at a corner. There are relaxing spaces, both indoors and outdoors. A small kitchenette area is also spotted and this comes with an oven, a microwave, and ice dispenser. If you buy food from outside, you can heat it up here. A professional coffee machine and tea dispenser is provided here and you can get complimentary coffee and tea all day. On top of that, guests can get free miso soup too. How awesome! If you would like to get snacks and more drinks, there's a small convenience corner to get those items. Fairfield by marriott Kumamoto Aso hotel is a splendid hotel that you will love!

#newyearnewtrip Fans of the One Piece Anime, you would be extremely happy to know that there are a total of 10 statues from the anime being scattered around kumamoto Japan. You will find characters such as Luffy, chopper, brook, and so many more. You have to travel around kumamoto in order to take pictures with all 10 statues. I, however, am a huge fan of the one piece character called Usopp and I was extremely happy when I spotted its statue right next to the JR aso train station and also near the Fairfield by marriott Kumamoto Aso hotel. The Usopp statue stands mightily in gold and it is not difficult to locate it. Snap a few photos with Usopp before moving off to find the other one piece characters.

#newyearnewtrip Fairfield by marriotr kumamoto aso may just be a three star hotel but it stands out as an amazing hotel during my stay and in no way did I feel it was like a three star hotel. Enter the hotel and everything feels well maintained and new. It has a homely warm feel at this hotel. I booked their twin room and I had a pleasant surprise. The room had a comfortable size and space. It was big enough to fit my luggage and I love the location as it is right outside the main aso station. So much convenience if you are traveling by train. I also love the view from my rooom. I could spot the famous Mount aso and watch the train run past from the train station. There's even a little spot in the room for you to just admire the views outside. There's no bathtub but I love that the dry and wet toilet is separated. The room was clean and modern with comfortable beds. I have no complains but only praises for Fairfield by marriott kumamoto aso. Superb stay!

During my visit to Aso, where it was cold, I managed to hang out in one of the trendiest cafes there and got myself some great coffee there. The cafe is called Kusasenri Coffee roastery and it is located right in front of the famous Kusasenrigahama attraction. Kusasenri Coffee roastery has an industrial cafe feel, and i like how contemporary it looks even though it is situated up in an mountainous area. Their coffee are great as their beans are roasted freshly within the cafe. Do try their cuppaccino and their unique charcoal latte - they are both heavy bodied, aromatic, milky and easy to drink. Coffee starts from 500 yen onwards. If you need a place to hide from the cold and get your caffeine fix, then do visit Kusasenri Coffee roastery.

It is a unique yet terrifying experience as you get to be close to an actual active volcano crater. As you ascend near to the crater, you can smell the scent of strong sulphur in the air and see volcanic gases emitting from above. Do note that if you have asthma or breathing difficulties, you are advised not to head up to the crater. This crater is one of the largest in the world and you would be amazed with how close you can get to an active volcano that is alive. Always check websites on volcanic activities before ascending up here as if it is too high, visitors are restricted from visiting the aso crater. If there is too much poisonous volcanic gases emitting, access to the crater will also be stopped. My visit here is one of the most awesome things to do in Aso and I loved it!
