A Journey through Jordan's Desert Jewel.
My stay in Wadi Rum was a mesmerizing desert experience that left me in awe of nature's beauty. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by the towering red sandstone cliffs, vast golden dunes, and an endless expanse of rugged landscapes. The tranquility of the desert was overwhelming, with only the sound of wind whispering through the canyons.
I spent my nights under a blanket of stars, staying in bubble luxotel . As the sun set, the sky transformed into a breathtaking display of colors, painting a celestial masterpiece. Sitting around a campfire, listening to Bedouin tales and sharing delicious Arabic cuisine, I felt a deep connection to the rich culture and heritage of the region.
During the day, I embarked on thrilling desert adventures. Riding a camel, I traversed the undulating dunes, feeling the rhythmic sway beneath me. Exploring hidden canyons and ancient rock formations, I marveled at the intricate patterns carved by time and weather.
Wadi Rum is a place where time seems to stand still, allowing you to reconnect with nature and find solace in its raw grandeur. It was a short but unforgettable experience that left an indelible mark on my soul, reminding me of the incredible wonders this world has to offer.

Camping at Wadi Rum - Bedouin Camp
One of the best campsites I ever stayed in and some of the fanciest accommodation… in the middle of the desert.
The food was incredible, cooked traditionally in an underground oven.
The tents were beautiful with air conditioning - even though the nights are chilled and calm.
A beautiful, peaceful evening full of stars and great company with the Bedouin people !
How I spent one night in Jordan
It turns out it’s possible to see Jordan’s best sites in just 1 night and 2 days. Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and the Red Sea…. All in one epic road trip.
Definitely recommend to visit Jordan and these places are not to be missed. You don’t need much time; just a good sense of adventure!
And a willingness to camp in the desert under beautiful stars!

A Day in Wadi Rum: Jeep Adventure & Sleeping Under the Stars in a Capsule Hotel!
Wadi Rum, often called the Valley of the Moon, is one of the most stunning natural landscapes I have ever experienced. If you are looking for an unforgettable adventure, here’s a glimpse of what a day in this otherworldly desert looks like, plus a unique take on staying overnight-inside a capsule hotel!
🌵Morning Adventure: Took a 4x4 jeep tour through towering sandstone mountains, explored Lawrence’s Spring, and hiked Khazali Canyon to see ancient petroglyphs. Films such as Rogue One: A star Wars Story were filmed in this cinematic desert destination. #adventure #dessert
Tip: book your jeep tour in advance!
🥙 Lunch with a View: Enjoyed a traditional Bedouin meal in a desert tent - fresh flatbread, grilled meat and rice!
By midday, the desert heat was intense but the landscape was completely worth it. Our guide, a local Bedouin was super friendly and shared so much about history, culture and desert life #historicallandmarks
🌚 Night in a Capsule Hotel: Spent the night in a futuristic capsule with a panoramic window for some of the best stargazing I have ever experienced! The Milky Way was unreal. Sleeping in the Desert Bedouin Style.
We booked our accommodation and tour through a website. Upon arriving at Wadi Rum, we parked our car and took a 4WD vehicle provided by the accommodation to check-in. The views along the way were stunning. After lunch, we rode camels to enjoy the scenery. The weather was quite hot, and I felt sorry for both the camels and myself 😂
The room had only a bed, and the bathroom was shared. It wasn't luxurious but was clean and comfortable.
The Jeep tour was a joint tour that took us to various spots in Wadi Rum. When we returned, we had a traditional Bedouin BBQ dinner called Zarb, which was very delicious.
The accommodation cost, which included three meals, a one-hour camel ride, and a four-hour Jeep tour for two people, was 130 JOD.
Wadi Rum Experience 🌵🐪
#desert
The desert of Wadi Rum was a dream. We rented a car from Accra and head down to the Red Sea. We spent half of the day there and without losing time we went to Wadi Room to sleep there. We had time to see the sunset with a jeep that took us around the desert. At night we watch the stars with a bonfire. We woke up very early in the morning to see the sunrise with the camels. It was an unforgettable experience.

The one time I went to Mars
The desert in Jordan is one of the most incredible places I have been to in my life.
This is the location of a number of movies that take place in Mars including:
-Martian
-multiple Star Wars movies
-Moon Knight
-Indiana Jones
-Aladdin
So definitely try to visit it when you go to Jordan. Since it is a very long drive, it’s pretty much necessary to hire a guide. Also bring warm clothes. You have to camp there for the night and it gets a bit chilly!

Explore the Otherworldly Landscapes of Jordan’s Wadi Rum
#desert
Known as the “Valley of the Moon,” Wadi Rum is an expansive desert in southern Jordan that offers a truly out-of-this-world experience. My time here included a 4x4 jeep tour that took me through dramatic rock formations and ancient petroglyphs. A night at one of the Bedouin camps, complete with stargazing and traditional Jordanian food, was a highlight. If you’re into rock climbing or trekking, Wadi Rum provides endless adventure. The landscape feels like something straight out of a science fiction movie, and it’s no wonder it’s often used as a Mars filming location! Visit during spring or autumn for the best weather. #100WaysofTravel #WadiRum #JordanExploration #DesertAdventure

Wadi Rum Bedouin Camp
Visiting the Wadi Rum Bedouin Camp was a unique experience and discovery of the beauty of the Jordanian desert. I spent the night in a traditional Bedouin tent and enjoyed the serene and peaceful atmosphere of the desert. I witnessed a mesmerizing sunset and a night sky filled with sparkling stars. I had an amazing journey on the back of a camel and explored stunning valleys and sandstones. I learned about Bedouin culture and their ancient values. I tasted delicious Bedouin food and enjoyed traditional songs and dances. It was an adventure-filled experience and a deep connection with nature and Bedouin culture.
Best place to stay in Wadi Rum
Before choosing a camp in Wadi Rum, you should pay attention to the following:
- Camp is located in a separate area, not near other camps
- Shuttle service is available at different locations
- Bathroom and toilet are clean
- The tent has electricity, water, lights, and a bed
- Delicious food
- The desert tour has many good reviews.
And Memories Aicha Luxury Camp is definitely the best!
Crossing Wadi Rum|Desert Graffiti and Sunset Wonders
In Wadi Rum, Jordan, you will feel as if you are on Mars with its unique terrain and breathtaking starry sky. Here, there is a hint of rose red that is more than the Sahara and Chile's Atacama Desert. The steep rocky peaks and brilliant starry sky make it the most unmissable destination in Jordan besides the ancient city of Petra.
We chose to stay at Wadi Rum Night Luxury Camp, where the facilities are quite good for Wadi Rum, with large tents offering air conditioning and even a bathing area. Although our tent did not have air conditioning, we were out exploring during the day, and the desert climate was cool and pleasant at night. They also offer star rooms, which need to be booked in advance. The food is quite good, with rice and fruit included. The accommodation price is about 200-300 dollars.
We rented a car directly from the ancient city of Petra to Wadi Rum, where the hotel staff greeted us and offered full-day and half-day tour options. The itinerary includes major attractions such as mushroom-shaped rocks, large arches, and small arches. Climbing up and down is required, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes. There is also a rock crevice for hiking, but I chose not to enter due to its damp and dark conditions.
The locals drew graffiti on my hand, saying that this desert has a tenacious vitality. We tasted locally brewed tea and freshly baked bread, chatting about carefree topics. Although the weather was hot during the day, it did not feel unbearable.
You must not miss the sunset in Wadi Rum. We climbed up high sand dunes with great effort, standing on the top of the rocks overlooking the entire desert. The distant sunset gradually sank, and the shadow of the rocky mountains slowly covered this barren land. There were also Bedouins playing a flute with a faint melancholy sound, evoking ancient memories.
When descending the dunes, you can try sliding down with the help of gravity, which is an exhilarating experience.
The most beautiful night in Wadi Rum, the dry climate makes the starry sky particularly bright. Looking up at the Milky Way outside the tent, you inadvertently catch a meteor, counting meteors until you fall asleep, as if you were in outer space.
After having an open-air breakfast in the desert the next day, we tried sandboarding on the dunes, which was very challenging but great fun. The local guy patiently helped me carry the board to the top of the hill and slide down again.
Jordan is among the top three of the more than 50 countries I have visited. Although there are some tourist traps, the natural and cultural landscapes are rich and unique. This small country can be easily toured by car. To this day, I still miss and marvel at the sunset and starry sky of Wadi Rum. The world was once so beautiful and will always be beautiful.
Wadi Rum - place of DUNE
Wadi Rum is uniquely beautiful and unlike any desert I have ever been to. The vertical, towering red-brown mountains have stood there for thousands of years, magnificent and majestic. The special thing here is that the multi-shaped sandstone strips will change color according to the sunlight, so at each time of day, they wear different brilliant colors. Wadi Rum is the perfect blend of opposing beauties, wild but romantic, fierce but soft. The unique surreal landscape here is used as the backdrop for many blockbuster movies such as Star Wars (episodes Rogue One and The Rise of Skywalker), Dune, The Martian (The Martian) ...#localguides
Wadi Rum
Known as the Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum is Jordan's most spectacular desert landscape, so named because it is as quiet and desolate as the surface of the moon. This is a typical pure sand desert, where weathered giant rocks stand like castles, adding a dynamic variation to the smooth lines. Wadi Rum has been a sacred place for over 2000 years. The Bedouins still follow their ancestors' nomadic lifestyle, roaming the depths of the desert, with black tents and herds of camels as the symbols of their home. You will find that receiving a cup of aromatic Arabian coffee from the hands of a traditionally robed Bedouin is an unforgettable experience in a lifetime.

Jordan | Worried that sandworms might emerge from here | Arrakis has arrived
In the science fiction novel 'Dune,' the protagonists live on a planet called Arrakis. This planet is covered with deserts and has extremely scarce water resources, hence it is also known as 'Dune.' So where is the original scene? Of course, it's Wadi Rum in Jordan. In addition to being a filming location for the sand dunes, Hollywood sci-fi movies like 'Star Wars,' 'The Martian,' and 'Transformers' have all featured this desolate extraterrestrial landscape.
⛰【Travel Guide】
📍Detailed address: Wadi Rum is located in the southern part of Jordan, also known as 'Valley of the Moon,' not far from Petra and the southern coastal city of Aqaba. You can charter a car or book a ride from Petra or Amman to get there. Usually, visitors go to the visitor center first, and then the desert hotel you've booked will send a car to pick you up. It's impossible to venture into the desert on your own.
🕙Opening hours: The site is open 24 hours, and there are many hotels and tents in the desert. Prices range from a few hundred to several thousand. Book your room in advance, then arrange a full-day or half-day desert tour at the front desk. It's recommended to spend two days so that you have more freedom to fully appreciate the desert's scenery at different times.
🌟Highlights:
👉Personally, I think Wadi Rum is Jordan's most spectacular desert landscape, without a doubt. Its red sand mountains and unique geological structures are very distinctive. The area is not endless; there are many rock mountains in between. The weathered rock formations come in various shapes, some as large as castles, and there are various cliffs, caves, arches, and canyons, making it a dual World Heritage Site for both nature and culture. In China's Xinjiang Hami, there is a similar landscape known as the 'Devil's City,' but unfortunately, it's not well-developed domestically and lacks supporting hotels.
🏜️Best way to travel: I booked a desert jeep tour at the hotel on the spot (additional charge). It covered some of the most famous local scenes. In such a vast place with no roads, it's quite dangerous to drive around on your own. Therefore, a guided tour is essential. Prices range from a few tens to hundreds of dollars per person, depending on the duration. For example, my half-day tour included the Mushroom Rock, two huge natural bridges, the magnificent sand sea, scenes from 'The Martian,' watching the sunset in the evening, visiting a Bedouin tent for tea, and so on. Along the way, you might encounter some camel providers charging a fee. If you haven't ridden a camel in Petra, you can ride one here for a photo. It's cheaper than in Petra, just $10.
👉There are many Western tourists here, and I didn't see many Asian faces. The overall experience feels very wild, yet everything is well-organized, with one spectacular scene after another. Personally, I think this is the best experience among the many attractions in Jordan.
🛏️Accommodation: I stayed at the Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel, a popular bubble tent in the desert. The scenery is right outside the hotel. Each room has a terrace, and a nice buffet is provided in the evening. You can also enjoy the dazzling starry sky at night. Spending a day in the hotel is a magical experience. It's like taking a vacation on Mars.
📌Small Tips:
• Bring enough water, as there are not many places to buy water in the vast desert.
• Drinking water in a Bedouin tent is free, but the handicrafts sold there are quite expensive.
Jordan | This is the real planet of dunes | Wadi Rum
Not every desert can produce the aesthetic landscape of the movie Dune, but Wadi Rum in Jordan had already deeply attracted every traveler who came to see it before it became a filming location for the dunes. Hollywood sci-fi movies like 'Star Wars,' 'The Martian,' 'Transformers,' and others, whenever there is that kind of desolate desert or bleak interstellar scenery, come here to shoot. A trip to Jordan is not complete without spending a day or two here; otherwise, it would be a pity.
⛰【Travel Tips】
📍Address: Wadi Rum is located in the southern part of Jordan, also known as 'Valley of the Moon,' not far from Petra and the southern coastal city of Aqaba. The usual Jordan travel circuit starts with Petra, then you can take a taxi or hire a car to get here, about a hundred kilometers, and it takes about an hour by taxi to the visitor center. The taxi fare cost me about 70 local currency, which is equivalent to ¥700 RMB. Taxi fares are quite expensive locally, but the price is negotiable. Of course, taking a bus is much cheaper.
🕙Opening Hours: The attraction is open 24 hours, but you can't do without staying in a hotel, as there are many hotels and tents in the desert. Prices range from a few hundred to a few thousand.
🌟Highlights:
👉Wadi Rum is the most spectacular desert landscape in Jordan, second to none, known for its red sand mountains and unique geological structures. The desert here is not endless; there are many rocky mountains in the middle, with weathered rocks of various shapes, some even as large as castles, as well as various cliffs, arch structures, and canyons, so it is also a dual World Heritage Site of nature and culture.
🏜️Best Way to Travel: It is recommended to visit in spring and autumn to avoid the high temperatures of summer and the cold of winter. The way to travel is to first stay in the camp hotels here, and then the camp will provide half-day to full-day desert jeep tours (for an additional fee). Different times, different scenic spots will be visited, usually including some beautiful sand seas and rocks, as well as many movie filming locations. Along the way, you may encounter some camel providers who charge a fee, and if interested, you can ride one for a photo. It is not advisable to walk around on your own, as the place is too large, the scenery is similar, and it is easy to get lost. It is extremely dangerous without a car and a local guide.
👉In the evening, it is usually arranged to watch the sunset and go to the local Bedouin tents for tea and songs. Some jeep tour packages even include dinner. Although the jeep is rented privately, these activities are prepared for tourists, so when you get there, you will find many other tourists, which should not be surprising. Including watching the sunset. You can ask the driver to drive a little further away. But, speaking of which, the sunset in the desert is indeed beautiful.
🛏️Accommodation: I stayed at the Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel, which had an excellent experience. This is a popular camping tent in the desert, and the hotel itself is a scenery. The hotel itself offers a jeep day tour. In the evening, they provide a very nice buffet, and you can also enjoy the brilliant starry sky at night.
📌Small Tips:
• Bring enough water, as there are not many places to sell water in the vast desert.
• Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
• Drinking water in the Bedouin tents is free, but the crafts sold are quite expensive
Overall, this kind of landscape experience combined with exotic culture feels very worthwhile. In China, Xinjiang also has many 'devil cities' with a similar style, but the accommodation conditions are not as good, which is a pity that they have not been well developed.

This coastal oasis seamlessly blends modern comfort with the timeless beauty of its surroundings. The resort’s deluxe rooms feature large windows leading to private balconies, some of which overlook the Red Sea. Tala Bay Resort’s dining options are diverse. Restaurants nearby offer panoramic Red Sea views, serving international and regional specialties. Guests can partake in banana boat rides or go diving with certified instructors. The resort’s proximity to coral reefs makes underwater exploration effortless.

Experience The Magical Bedouin Camps in Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is a magical desert landscape in southern Jordan. Among the unique experiences which Wadi Rum offers are its authentic Bedouin camps, where visitors can immerse themselves in traditional hospitality and the magic of the desert.
Many camps offer traditional Bedouin tents, upgraded chalet tents or luxurious bubble rooms like on a base on Mars. Guests can choose between shared and private bathroom facilities. The camps usually offer a variety of packages, such as jeep expeditions and trekking. As families born and raised in the surrounding desert, the hosts provide an authentic and comfortable experience.
Some evenings come alive with conversations about life in the desert and traditional Jordanian music and dancing. Other nights offer peaceful tranquillity and a chance to escape city sounds and embrace the desert’s calmness. The silence of the desert and the vastness of the night sky create an unforgettable ambiance.

Exploring Wadi Rum’s Enchanting Landscapes
With an area of 720 square kilometres, Wadi Rum is the largest wadi (river valley) in Jordan. Its vastness invites exploration – whether by foot, camel, or the iconic 4x4 jeeps that traverse its red sands.
Within Wadi Rum, a range of natural formations captivates the eye. Narrow gorges, natural arches, and cliffs stand as witnesses to millions of years of landscape evolution. These sandstone wonders were shaped by tectonic forces, erosion, and weathering, creating a mix of reds, oranges, and browns.
The desert’s diversity extends beyond the iconic. Mushroom rocks, honeycomb weathering features, and massive landslides add texture to the landscape. Each turn reveals a new facet – a hidden canyon, a wind-sculpted pinnacle, or a vast expanse of rippled sand dunes.
In 2011, Wadi Rum was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure opportunities make it a must-visit destination and the perfect winter getaway.
