2025 Anak Krakatau Island Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in June)

#favouriteitinerary A little bit of history, in 1883 Krakatoa was erupted and the eruption was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history. Which can be heard from as far as Perth. At least more than 30,000 death and it created tsunami. Then in 1927, another island formed down below the sea. It’s called Anak Krakatoa. This is the island that receives visitors and volcanologists now. Camped here for 2 nights, it was the best and adventurous decision. I would repeat this experience. The boat ride from nearby village took about 1-2 hours depending on the weather. #favouriteitinerary

#newyearnewtrip We were young, wild and crazy. Just want some kind of adventure every single time. What camping at Krakatau Island? Ok let’s. Before anything, we already there. Shiny black sands, clear turquoise oceans, smoke come out of the active Anak Krakatau Volcano, huge monitor lizards everywhere, then the erupted Krakatau Island can see from a distance. Going there is journey itself. From Jakarta, drive approximately around 4-6 hours depending on the traffic. Reach nearby local village that do exclusive package to go to the island. Next day, small boat ride took about an hour to the island and pitch a tent. It’s experience of a lifetime. I would definitely do it again❤️

This place is historic and has a magical aurra about it. Anak Krakatau sits grandly next to the imposing neighbour Rataka. You land on black sand beach and take short stroll through the shrub and then make the easy climb. The higher you go the rockier it becomes so wearing trainers is best (but can manage with sandals). You can marvel at the rocks, the colours, the shapes and different textures. The view from the highest safest permissible point offers splendid views all around.
