XISHU GARDEN INN
4.8/5226 Reviews
Wenshu Monastery/Longhu Shangcheng Sky Street
Coming here again in the spring, this inn remains the highlight of my trip. Imagine having had a rough trip: the cold, intense population density, and tough business meetings. Weary, you get off a late flight with sore legs. You trudge over to the inn, turning the final corner into its warm lights, past the usual check-in time. You have no idea how things could go; some hotel receptions can be rather unpleasant. Your first brush with Xishu is its simple double glass doors, and the sight of a giant panda statue. You totter past it gingerly, unsure if anyone is awake at such a late hour. Ah. But someone is. A youthful girl smiles gently at you over the counter, ”Hello. Check in?” You smile awkwardly, unsure, ”Yes, I know it's late...” ”No,” She responds softly, ”It's ok. Could I get your passport?” There wasn't a fuss. She smiles and gets to work quietly, clicking away. You set your luggage down and look around. Behind you, you notice the little courtyard, a cultural icon of traditional chinese architecture. A small fountain sputters, fairy lights are strung above for the spring festival, casting a surreal ambience over everything. Wind chimes jingle faintly. You draw a breath at it all. Small tables and chairs are laid out, welcoming you. ”Your room key,” You turn around to see the youthful girl at the counter smiling gently with a keycard. She briefs you in the same calming tone; wifi, breakfast, washing machines, and even a map of attractions all planned out. You thank her, reminded of your travel fatigue, and head on up. Your footsteps are dampened by carpet, going in hallways of soothing chinese wooden interior designs. The inn is quiet at this hour, unlike the large hotels that have kids or travel groups. You tap your keycard to get in your room... And a small welcome basket awaits you. Apples and oranges, sweets, tiny little spicy sichuan snacks. The aesthetic of the room remains faithful to the inn, throwing you back down the memory lane... to Japanese ryokans, to Bali's traditional guest villas, or to vacation cottages in Europe. But something is a little different. Instead of stripping technology and modern convenience, this inn has woven it into its design. Air conditioning has been set for you. Smart toilet seats detect your presence and keep itself clean. Shower buttons are easy to understand, with a single easily controllable hot water lever. Even the mirror at the bathroom sink detects your presence and lights up, with a heating coil that prevents it from fogging on mornings. You wash up. Sleep. The next day, you wake for breakfast, barely after the sun had broken the steel gray of dawn, now you witness the inn's courtyard in the day. Nobody is seated outside yet in such low temperatures, but you take a moment to look around and just soak in the ambience. Uninterrupted. When you finally turn towards reception, you notice a pair youthful girls at the counter. Both quietly smiling and unassuming. Calming, instead of the forced professionalism at other hotels. There's something real here. A sincerity. A genuine kindness that permeates, perhaps from proximity to the monastery? Perhaps the unique historic district? Perhaps the owner and managers made it this way. The girls check your breakfast options again, in case you might have changed your mind. You totter into the resturant, barely awake, but a fresh cup of nespresso hits you quickly, a familiar aroma from home in a land 12,000km away from home. And then fruits. Milk. Toast bread. Butter! Sichuan noodles in the morning. Exotic dumplings. Eggs sunny side up. By the time breakfast is done, you know you will be returning here again. And again. I have. I've made friends with the hotel staff. I hope you will too. And if you love the people and place as much as I do, I hope you, too, will give it your best shot. If you've read this far, I hope we meet in this distant land. Some day.

I arrived at homestay 闲时依旧 from 毕棚沟at around 8.40pm . We were looking for the entrance and was there it was second floor and we had 4 heavy luggages 2 large and 2 small. we didn't know there are 2 ways to get to the homestay 1.climb the ladder and 3 .elevator behind . anyway ,we climbed the stairs🤭 Once we reach the Aunty was there she was smiling and not a lot of Thai stayed here . The homestay has no elevator inside so you need to climb the ladder to your room which might be on second floor . I was about to carry my heavy luggages one by one but Aunty suddenly took the heavy luggage for me and I told here no it is too heavy for lady but she insisted and carried it to the front door of my room. she is so hospitable .She don't need to carry my bag it is too heavy for lady! I was at the same time ashamed and also impressed with how much she wanted to help. I was grateful for that .Upone entering the room .It was cozy ,cute and we have a balcony which we used to have breakfast with view of the old town . I really like this place . Moreover, I was super impressed with the room facilities. It is my first time in my life to see a homestay or hotel using CELLULOSE DISPOSABLE TOWEL . WHY I CARED SO MUCH ABOUT IT? BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN FABRIC INDUS7FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS !!! AND CELLULOSE FIBER HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE INNOVATION THE INDUSTRY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LAUNCH IT TO THE MARKET . I CAN TELL YOU ,THIS IS NOT CHEAP AND IT IS RECYCLABLE . THE HOMESTAY TOOK ME BY SURPRISED AND THAT IS SOMETHING I WANTED TO SAY ,YOU ARE BEYONG INNOVATION AND YOU HAVE COME TO THE POINT FEW PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO INVEST . IN ADDITION, THE WATER THAT HOMESTAY OFFERED US IN ROOM THERE IS 1.5 LITRE AND 2 0.5 LITRE AND IT IS PETRIFIED WATER .WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN WHAT WE USUALLY SEE .I have been travelling and staying thousands of hotel even 5-6 stars no places offered such expensive water!!!! Wow Wow Wow ....I can't be more impressed. The owner bring us breakfast right on time that we informed her and breakfast was very very clean and healthy .Red potato ,milk buns. it was super !!! We have a great night sleep souch that we got up a little late .So we rushed out to Panda Selfie and the spots we planned . we asked the Aunty owner for information how to go and she was very vigilant and happy to tell us she even walked out to point us the way . I cannot say how perfect our stay was bed was soft ,clean pillow is perfectly supportive . Amenities are not those cheap amenities ,all usable and have a price . Soup is good ( normally I don't use any soup if it is not my own). The hot tap shower have digital heat and cool control with Celsius Digital you can turn 33 ,34 35, ,23 ,24 ,25 Celsius accurately. All these are something meticulously thoughtful .And invested for the pleasure of the visitors. Since we love the stay so much and we love the city. we decided to stay 1 more night in Dujiangyan .Also because we love 青城山 ,but when we visited there it was already 3pm too late to enter and enjoy the nature . so we WeChat to aunty and told here we will stay 1 more night .And she upgraded for us to bigeer room with 2 beds very spacious .with the same price because the room type we booked was full. You see how good she is ,the next night we stayed in spacious room with very clean beds as usual. All I can say if I can give full star of 10 I wanted to give Aunty 100 of 10 , homestay 100/10 Breakfast 100/10 and The homestay location is right in front of selfie Panda 100/10 I love everything about this place . I have a plan to revisit in May 1 st 2025 DEFITELY ND TAHNK YOU AUNTY FOR FULFILLING OUR TRIP SO FLAWLESSLY I will definitely stay here again

We were supposed to stay in one of the accommodations in Scenic Area Shuangqiao Valley but the plan fell apart when we learnt that we'd be locked inside throughout our stay due to entry ticket requirement and we're not allowed to drive our car in Out of desperation, we booked a room in this homestay and it turned out to the one of the most memorable stays we've ever had. Unlike typical hotels and homestays, this one stood out for their unique character and warm hospitality The room we stayed in was warm and cozy, immediately making us feel at home. Winter at Mount Siguniang was as magical as ever, with bright sunshine during the day and peaceful evenings. We spent time in the tea area of our room, sipping tea, chatting, and enjoying the stars. It was a perfect mix of relaxation and comfort. This was made possible with a very high standard of hygiene and cleanliness not only of our room, but the building as a whole Dining experience was exceptional. Breakfast included freshly baked highland barley breads and plain but comforting congee that warmed our hearts and stomachs. The meals were thoughtfully prepared to suit our preferences, making us feel as though we were dining at home. Sister Chin's generosity and attention to detail extended even to helping us with laundry, ensuring every aspect of our stay was smooth and enjoyable. Best part of our stay would be the gather round fireplace in the lounge at night. Our hosts prepared hot tea and we chatted away the entire night. This off-season visit felt even more comfortable than a peak-season trip, and we are so grateful for the hospitality that made this journey perfect. The family’s warmth and sincerity made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience, far beyond what we ever expected from a homestay.

The location, food and services were amazing! Great hotel for families to explore Chengdu as it is very near metro station. 宽窄巷子 and 文化公园 is only 10 mins walk away. Breakfast was delicious and had a good variety (pastry, noodles, rice, different meat and vegetables). Hotel also prepared breakfast for us to bring along our trip when we had to leave before the breakfast timing. This was really a thoughtful act. Room and toilets were clean and we enjoyed the room with daily housekeeping. We will come back to this hotel in our next Chengdu trip. Highly recommend to visitors to Chengdu

It takes ten to fifteen minutes to walk to the train station and a few sizable shopping centers, making the location perfect. On the other side of the hotel are a number of small eateries. There are food and fruit carts on wheels in front of the hotel. Very convenient. The windows' need for improved soundproofing is the only negative aspect.

(”I hate this place!!!” is what I would have said if the staff had not come to our rescue. During our 3D2N stay, we had moved into 3 different cabins. In the first cabin, the rain shower felt like weak rain droplet due to weak water pressure; then toilet had weak flush that our poop could not be cleared even after 30 over flushes, and then the flush stopped working. We changed into another cabin the next morning as it was already late at night. The second cabin also had issue. When we turned on the floor heating and air conditioning heating for more than 4hrs, it was still not working and the room was still at 3 degree Celsius. It was really cold and we had no choice but to wear our winter gear with heat packs on us, figuring out if the heater would finally work. The staff provided us a portable heater (refer to last picture) as we would not want to change to another cabin anymore. However, our toilet flush stopped working and this forced us to change to the 3rd cabin. This would have been a wonderful stay if the room's basic facilities had worked normally. But thanks to the excellent service of the staff, we could tell they really tried their best to fix the issue immediately whenever we raised the problem. Now for some really good things we appreciate about this place: 1) If you are looking for a nice glamping experience, this is the place to go. The room is beautiful and the view is amazing. (Do check out cabin 8 and 9). You may get to be close to animals too. (refer to picture) 2) If you are looking to enjoy the stars without much light pollution, this is the place to go. (Suggestion to the staff, please replace the street lamps with motion sensor. So that the place can be darker at night for star viewing. Your street lamps are too bright with no cars moving around. Refer to 2nd last picture. This is the brightness of the room with all room lights off. But the street lamp had spoiled the star viewing from the room.) 3) They provide free car transport to fetch you from the bottom of the hill. (Note: Their didi GPS of the hotel is wrong. The didi might drop you half way off the hill. So better request for free car pick up service from bottom of the hill with the hotel.) 4) The communication with the staff via Wechat is fast and responsive. We are already connected with them before we depart from our country. When you reach Huanglong Jiuzhai Train Station, they will also guide you what bus to take and which stop to alight (Hua Mei Sheng Di, not Jiu Zhai Gou Visitor Center) and has their driver on standby to fetch you to the hotel. 5) The staffs are amazing, friendly and helpful. When we faced trouble with our cabin, they responded very fast and did their best in assisting our problem. 6) The room is a smart room. From the moment you open the door, the curtain will be automatically opened for you, the room will have nice music to welcome you. You can also connect your laptop or phone via their Bluetooth and have the whole cabin turned into a surround sound movie theater. Conclusion: Our stay would have been more than perfect if all the basic facilities work normally and the street lamps can be turned off during the night with motion sensor for us to view the stars. I would recommend my friends or myself to come again if they can take my suggestions and fix the place. =) )

Recently, the elderly in my family said that their shoulders were uncomfortable, so I booked a room for them to soak in the hot springs. The housekeeper was very enthusiastic and took good care of the family. He helped them make an appointment for the moxibustion project. He was also very patient with the elderly. He introduced the projects in the hotel in detail and took travel photos, which were very good. There are many choices of hot spring pools. It is a natural hot spring. You can see the springs when you walk around the hotel. The room was very clean, the breakfast tasted good, and there were many snacks. The front desk clerk was very polite. When checking out, he would also ask about the stay experience. He was professional and friendly. It was not far from home. I will continue to check in at this hotel.
Guanyin Yiyuntai Hotel Chengdu

During this trip to Chengdu, I stayed at three hotels, JW Marriott, Six Senses and Diaoyutai. Among them, Diaoyutai (now renamed Guanyin Yiyuntai Hotel) is the most expensive and the most expensive in Chengdu, about 2,500 per night. It can be seen that the hardware configuration is quite good and of high quality in first-tier cities, and the French designer has excellent aesthetics. But just like the fundamentals of Chengdu, the hotel software and services are far from matching the hardware configuration. The following is my nitpicking based on the premise that this is the most expensive hotel in Chengdu and even more expensive than Six Senses, which is known as one of the luxury hotels (it is even more ”localized” and difficult to describe): Since there is no welcome fruit dessert in the beautiful dessert box on the table, it is empty. Why put it there? One hour after checking in, an aunt timidly knocked on the door to come in and put the fruit. Isn't it unprofessional? There are no napkins in the restaurant of this level of hotel. The breakfast is small and the quality is simple, as shown in the picture. The bar area in the room is full of crude snacks, and the tea bags are TA. Living on the third floor, the smell of oil smoke from breakfast on the first floor will spread to the room. It should not be because of the large gap in the door. I have said before that the original hardware foundation of this hotel is very good. I don’t know what the reason is. After leaving the room, the hotel is dark and dirty. There is thick dust on the windowsill under the patio. There should be a landscape under the patio, but now it is paved with perfunctory stones. Just looking at this part of the patio, it is almost in a small local guesthouse in China. After leaving the room, the hotel is dark and dirty. There is thick dust on the windowsill under the patio. There should be a garden landscape under the patio, but now it is paved with perfunctory stones. Just looking at this part of the patio, it is almost in a small local guesthouse in China. The hotel is divided into two courtyards with a walking distance of 50 meters. One of the courtyards has no doorman, and the front desk is looming. Tourists on the street can break in. At night, the front desk was replaced by an old man. He is amiable and there is no standard hotel language. The problem is that this is not a homestay. The overall service staff is probably a hastily graduated from a domestic tourism technical school with no experience in high-end hotel management. They are timid and enthusiastic, relying on the simple nature of the locals, but there is no standardized management process. The service is not on point, and they can't learn or understand the essence of the ”French” style in this luxury hotel. It is estimated that they can serve domestic four-star hotels. There are several levels of cognition. Update: On the second day of check-in, I received a notice from the hotel that breakfast was delivered to the room instead, and the restaurant would not prepare breakfast. The reason is self-evident: the main customer of the past few days, the ********* tour group, left, and there were only a few unlucky guests in the entire hotel, including me, so the cost of breakfast was saved as much as possible. This is the way of hospitality of the most expensive hotel in Chengdu.

Absolutely gorgeous villa style hotel with great service provided by Eve and her colleagues. Eve was responsive and checked in with us to ensure that we had all we needed for a stay. The housekeeping team was also prompt with our requests. Buggy can take a while to arrive during breakfast peak hours. You could tell that the room heater had been turned on hours pre-arrival to welcome its guests warmly. Room had a beautiful mountain view and the toilets were huge. Though we had some issues with opening and closing the sliding door at the toilet it, wasnt too big an issue. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting jiuzhaigou!
