Introduction Xi'an Shadow Puppetry Show

Introduction
Some information may have been translated by Google Translate
Xi'an, an ancient capital with a history of thousands of years, has nurtured many brilliant traditional cultural treasures, and shadow puppetry is one of the dazzling pearls. As an important birthplace and inheritance of Chinese shadow puppetry, Xi'an shadow puppetry attracts countless tourists with its profound cultural heritage and unique artistic charm.
Xi'an shadow puppetry has a long history, dating back to the Han Dynasty, developed in the Tang Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It still retains the simple and traditional performance style. Its production process is extremely sophisticated. It selects high-quality cowhide and goes through more than 20 processes such as scraping, carving, and coloring to make shadow puppets with exquisite shapes and smooth lines. These puppets are not only performance props, but also exquisite handicrafts. The character modeling covers a variety of roles such as Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou. The costumes and headdresses are rich in details, vividly showing the style of ancient characters.
During the performance, the artist skillfully manipulates the shadow puppets behind the white curtain with his dexterous hands, and interprets the ups and downs of the story with the melodious singing and the brisk percussion instruments. The repertoire covers a wide range of themes, including classic historical stories such as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Journey to the West", as well as folk legends and mythological stories. The content is rich and suitable for all ages. The artists use their superb skills to give the shadow puppets a vivid life, making the characters' joys, sorrows, anger and happiness come alive on the screen, as if bringing the audience back to the historical scenes of a thousand years ago.
Watching Xi'an shadow puppetry is an immersive cultural experience. The atmosphere on the scene is rich, and under the light, the shadows of the shadow puppets change flexibly on the curtain. The audience is sometimes nervous and sometimes laughs as the plot develops. The Xi'an shadow puppetry performance is not only a feast of vision and hearing, but also a deep dialogue with history and culture, carrying the wisdom and emotions of the people of the ancient capital.

Shaanxi Xi'an | Must-visit attractions for first-timers in Xi'an

Shaanxi Xi'an | Must-visit attractions for first-timers in Xi'an

Xi'an was once the capital of thirteen dynasties, leaving behind a treasure trove of history and culture as numerous as the stars. The imposing ancient city walls, the bustling Muslim Quarter, and the world-renowned Terracotta Army are all favorites among tourists from all over. The following attractions are the most popular in Xi'an and are suitable for first-time visitors. The sites are concentrated in the city center and the eastern suburbs, including historical monuments, food districts, and city landmarks, which can be fully explored in 3 days. Top1 Terracotta Army 🌟 Highlight: One of the eight wonders of the world, a vast site ❤ Recommended because: The Terracotta Army (Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor Museum) is located in the Lintong District to the east of Xi'an, about an hour's drive from the city center. It attracts millions of domestic and international tourists every year to witness this 'eighth wonder of the world.' This massive underground formation, even after thousands of years, still features lifelike facial expressions on the soldiers, with clear details of their clothing and even the lines on the soles of their shoes visible. The museum is divided into Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 3, and the Exhibition Hall of Bronze Chariots and Horses. Pit 1 displays thousands of terracotta warriors, a grand and spectacular scene; Pit 2 has not been excavated on a large scale, but the unearthed soldiers are more exquisite. The green-faced warrior currently on display at the Shaanxi History Museum was discovered here. Who knows, maybe the ground beneath your feet holds a future world-famous treasure; Pit 3, the 'command post,' has unearthed warriors and chariots not found in Pits 1 and 2, the smallest area but the most special. 🕙 Business hours: Ticket and opening hours Regular ticket: 120 yuan/person (discounts available on Ctrip) Peak season: 8:30~17:00 (March 1st - end of November) Off-season: 8:30~16:30 (December 1st - end of February next year) ⏳ Visiting time: 2 and a half hours is enough to fully explore Pits 1, 2, 3, and the Exhibition Hall of Bronze Chariots and Horses. 🚉 Transportation strategy: Take the subway line 9 to Huaqingchi Station and transfer to Lintong 613 for the Terracotta Army; or take subway line 1 to the Textile City Hub Station and transfer to bus route 5 or 306. 📝tips: Nearby attractions to visit: Huaqing Palace 🌟 Highlight: Huaqing Palace was a royal bathing resort throughout the dynasties, made even more famous by Yang Guifei's bathing here. The biggest attraction is the hot springs, in addition to the garden landscapes, ancient buildings, and famous trees and cultural relics. Moreover, because of the ancient Tang-style architecture, it's very easy to take beautiful photos while wearing Hanfu here. 🕙 Business hours: Monday to Sunday 07:30-18:00 🚉 Transportation strategy: Bus: Take bus 307/Lintong 602/Lintong 613 to Huaqingchi Bus Station to arrive—Subway: Take subway line 9 to Huaqingchi Subway Station to arrive

Xi'an City Wall: A Golden Romance

Xi'an City Wall: A Golden Romance

The ancient capital, a warm winter day. In the afternoon, the sun sets in the west, and the light falls on the blue bricks and gray tiles of the west gate. Leaving home, turning the corner of Bingjiao Lane, Hanguang Gate is not far ahead. Leaning against the blue bricks of the city wall, which has withstood 600 years of wind and rain, and strolling along the moat, Xi'an people spend their days and nights under the city wall, under the moonlight... The setting sun shines, the breeze blows, and the city wall under the blue sky and white clouds is like a gentle messenger, quietly taking away the hustle and bustle of the city, silently thinking about the past. The sunlight falls like a golden veil, and the bright sun gently dispels the cold and confusion of winter. Walking along the golden path, breathing in the cool air of the forest, accompanied by the golden leaves on the branches, at the corner of time, an inexplicable sense of longing and nostalgia arises. Walking along the path by the moat, the ginkgo trees in the setting sun, shaking their colorful leaves, fall into the clear water of the moat, shining with golden light, showing their charming beauty. On the mottled gray bricks and blue stones, the old trees and crows talk to the young man in golden armor, and in the light and shadow, I was once like you. The flowers bloom and wither, and the life of Xi'an people is under the city wall. The elderly hold hands in the golden sunset, reminiscing about their youth; children dance in the golden flowers, forgetting to go home. Strolling along the southwest corner of the city wall, the ancient city wall in the sunset, after thousands of years of wind and rain, is still majestic and magnificent. As the lights come on, walking under the ancient city wall in the moonlight, I feel as if I have returned to the Tang Dynasty. Under the corner of the city wall, who makes the silent fallen leaves express their feelings, creating a golden heart and a jade pot of spring. As night falls, the ancient city wall is full of light and color, showing its charming and enchanting appearance. A palace lantern is lit in front, illuminating the way home through Hanguang Gate...

Affordable hotels in Xi'an!

Affordable hotels in Xi'an!

Xi'an Renaissance Hotel I stayed at Xi'an Renaissance Hotel this time to visit the Tree of Life at MixC, which has been very popular recently. When I arrived at the hotel, I was immediately attracted by its magnificent appearance. The simple and modern architectural style is cleverly integrated with the ancient charm of Xi'an, complementing each other. Stepping into the spacious and bright lobby, the high space is magnificent, and the gorgeous crystal chandelier casts a soft light, which complements the artistic decoration, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. The front desk staff were enthusiastic and polite, and the check-in process was efficient and smooth. They also thoughtfully introduced me to the hotel's various facilities. I stayed in a deluxe king room. The room layout is reasonable, the space is spacious, and the decoration is exquisite and unique. The bedding is soft and comfortable, and it feels like being gently wrapped, allowing me to have a good night's sleep. The soundproofing of the room is excellent, allowing me to sleep peacefully in the quietness even in a bustling city. The bathroom is separated from wet and dry areas, with complete facilities and excellent quality. The oversized bathtub allows me to relax after a busy day. The toiletries have a pleasant fragrance and are very comfortable to use. The hotel's dining options are rich and varied, and highly praised. The café's buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of options, from Western bread, ham, and eggs to Chinese porridge, buns, and fried dough sticks, meeting the taste needs of different people. The hotel's fitness center is well-equipped, with treadmills, dumbbells, exercise bikes, and other equipment, all well-maintained. The city view outside the window adds a lot of fun to the workout. The hotel is also in a very advantageous location, with convenient transportation nearby, close to subway and bus stations, making it easy to reach various attractions. This stay at Xi'an Renaissance Hotel left a deep impression on me, whether it was the comfortable rooms, delicious food, or thoughtful and attentive service.

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang – A Historical Marvel

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang (Terracotta Army) is a must-visit destination when traveling to Xi'an. The grandeur and intricacy of the terracotta soldiers make it one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and a destination that attracts tourists from all over the world. Upon arrival, the first impression is the vastness of the museum and the systematic display. The main highlight is “Pit 1,” a large pit filled with life-sized statues of soldiers and horses, each with unique faces, postures, and details. Additionally, there are “Pit 2” and “Pit 3,” which represent different military units, providing a deeper understanding of ancient military strategies. What makes this place special is the story behind it. The mausoleum was built under the command of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, to serve as an army to protect him in the afterlife. It was accidentally discovered in 1974 by local farmers. For the visit, it is recommended to allocate about half a day or a full day to explore all sections thoroughly. For more detailed information, hiring a local guide to explain the historical background is advisable. Overall, the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is an astonishing and mysterious place, well worth the visit!

Xi'an 西安 ~3 day trip

This trip took place in January 2020. Some places may have changed since. 1. Terracotta Warriors (images 1-3) Address - 西安市秦陵北路与秦俑馆公路交叉口 Highlights - Back in my home country, I had seen a few of these warriors in the museum. But to see this many in one place is pretty special. There are plenty of guides available at the gate if you need, however I am always happy to go at my own pace and try to practice reading the Chinese descriptions. Notes - Ensure you take cash with you, for the bus and the entry ticket. I didn't have enough cash and had to ask a tour guide to give me cash and I transfer him money through wechat. Not very convenient. Rating - 9/10 2. Mojo Cafe (images 4-6) Address - 经济技术开发区凤城八路与文景路十字西南角国金华府12幢1101室 Highlights - This cafe brand was created back in New Zealand and it's first cafe outside of NZ was here in Xi'an so of course I had to try it. And it brought me back home. They even had a photo of my favourite Mojo cafe in Wellington where I often had my coffee. Rating - 9/10 3. Streets of Xi'an (images 7-9) Address - I can't remember exactly where these streets were but they were in the middle of the city somewhere. Highlights - I always enjoy walking the streets of new cities and watching the people go by. Rating - 8/10 #ancienttomb#ancientlandmark#historicculture#café#museumquest#culturalattractions

Xi'an and the Terra-cotta Soldiers, China

Xi'an and the Terra-cotta Soldiers, China

I went during the off season (November) which I highly recommend. I've heard in the summer the building these soldiers are in can be extremely hot and crowded. In November is was a little chilly but you didn't need more than a sweater, no lines for anything and at most you had two people infant of you so just wait a second and they will move and you will have the view you wanted. The soldiers are amazing, I couldn't believe how incredible they are but also that they are colored which is something I never knew. Its unfortunate that some lost their colors and others are being protected out of sight. Maybe one day we will be able to see them in all their colourful glory again.
