Hotels Near The Hollywood Canteen in Toronto

We stayed four nights at the hotel. The check in was quick and easy. The housekeeping services each day were very good. The restaurant onsite was not open but there are several coffee shops in the immediate area so that wasn't a problem. The public transit was close by and it easy to access. The reason we won't give the hotel five stars is because the WiFi was terrible. The routers were old and not secure, the service was very slow and we were not impressed.

My wife and I recently spent three nights at the TownPlace Suites hotel in Markham, Ontario. We booked the room with our Bonvoy points, so I can’t comment on price. Markham is a suburb about 15 miles north of Toronto. We picked this location since it was near relatives we were visiting. It’s located on a fairly busy highway with various commercial businesses nearby. There is a Chinese restaurant (QJD Peking Duck), which we did not visit, on the first floor. The thirteen-story building actually holds two Marriott properties: Courtyard by Marriott on floors 2 - 8 and TownPlace on floors 9 - 14. The registration desk serves both hotels. The lobby has several areas for socializing. There also is a Bistro/Bar area. Conference rooms, a business center and a spa are off to the side. A fitness center and indoor pool are on the lower level. Wifi is free. Surprisingly, parking is not. Signs say that it costs $6 Canadian per day to park in the attached multi-level garage, but we apparently were not charged. Check-in was courteous and efficient. You need your keycard to access the elevator. TIP: There is no 13th floor; the elevator buttons go from 12 to 14! We were assigned room 915. TIP: the room was almost across the hall from the ice machine and one wall of the room directly abutted the elevator bank. While the noise was neglible, you might want to keep this in mind if you’re a very light sleeper. The room was clean and decorated in what I would call ikea style. It was like living in a studio apartment. A flat screen TV was on a two-drawer chest/dresser. A wall-mounted desk had overhead shelving, a vertical cupboard, desk chair and rollout table. The kitchen section had a sink, two-burner electric range top, coffee pot, microwave, dishwasher (!) and fairly large refrigerator. There were multiple cabinets and drawers filled with practically every kitchen item you’d need: pots, pans, dishes, flatware, soap, etc. And if they’re still something you might need, chances are you can get it from the front desk. (See pic.) A full-size closet contained an iron/ironing board. No sign of a safe. The sitting area contained a loveseat, ottoman and floor lamp. The king-size bed had five pillows. The bed was a little soft, but comfortable. It was flanked by nightstands and wall-mounted lamps with electric outlets. 
The bathroom was average-sized. The vanity had lots of counter space and several drawers. And a hair dryer. The shower was quite large, taking up about a third of the room. There was wall-mounted hand soap and hair/body wash (in the shower) by ALICE & Co+ botanicals. Shower pressure and temperature were fine. TIP: Don’t be alarmed when you flush the toilet - the sound is comparable to that generated by an airplane commode. Breakfast was included with the room and was served on the 14th floor. The parking lot is large and free, it is very suitable for self-driving tour. There are several fast food restaurants nearby, and there is a gas station at the door, which is more convenient. It takes less than half an hour to get to the subway Pioneer Village Station. The breakfast at the hotel is the same, and some changes are better.

Upon arrival was told our 2 bedroom suite was unavailable due to renovations but the front desk attendant was very accommodating and quickly got us into 2 separate rooms of equivalent bed space. Overall loved the cleanliness, and quiet of the building and halls itself. Next time we will look to stay definitely stay longer than 1 night- we will be back before summer is over! I had a concert at Budweiser Stage September 24 and all the hotels in and around Toronto were ridiculous prices. We arrived about half an hour before check in and the front desk agent was able to get us a room that was just cleaned. We had a room with two queen beds and soon as we opened the door it all we could smell was CLEAN! The window is small but I'm not there to look out the window. We were about halfway down the building so noise from the expressway was not an issue. There was a bar fridge and a microwave which came in handy (the bar fridge for us). The bathroom was updated and very clean. The beds and pillows were comfy and we slept well. I went down to the lobby to get some water from the dispenser, which was turned off as it's normally only on until 11AM for the juice options. The front desk agent turned it on so I could get some water. PROS: Great price, comfy beds/pillows, great location, friendly staff. Tim Horton's next door! CONS: only saw one ice machine on the first floor by lobby. No shower chair for disabled people to use in the shower. They ask for a $200 hold on your CC upon check in which I think is excessive. Overall, this is a great, affordable option for a trip to Toronto. Right off the expresswa & very close to shopping. A no frills place to stay that won't break the bank!

A recommended hotel! Rich breakfast and convenient travel! There are many restaurants around! The room is very clean! Cleaned every day! The front desk service attitude is very enthusiastic! Thumbs up

Good environment, good service

We enjoyed our family long weekend, this is an ideal location, only a few minutes shuttle to the airport. We were able to grab the shuttle to the airport each day and from there take the UP Express and GO Bus to where ever we wanted to go. The hotel staff are such a pleasure to talk to, and helpful with every little detail (thanks for the pizza place recommendation- it was perfect!) It was great having breakfast included, and they have a generous selection to choose from! We were bummed the pool isn’t operational yet, but we knew that before we went, so we are looking forward to enjoying it another time. We would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to anybody looking for a clean affordable hotel near the airport. Our room faced the airport and the kids were happier to watch that then the tv (thanks!) And worth noting that we were near the elevator, but it wasn’t a noise issue at all (as we’ve experienced elsewhere in the past) (Side note, we were pleased that the room temperature was consistent (and the cooling/heating system quiet!) It was a good stay

We stayed at the DoubleTree in September prior to flying to Greece and were really impressed! Everything was very clean and the decor was modern and updated. Robert, our server at the Taza Grill, was delightful to talk to, and the meal was excellent. Joseph and the front desk staff were very friendly and professional and the airport shuttle driver, Qurshi, had a wonderful sense of humour and helped to make our experience a really enjoyable one. We will definitely be back!
