Io, the Mashu Blue of Lake Mashu, and the panoramic view of Lake Kussharo from Bihoro Pass. This time, we stayed for two consecutive nights, and in addition to viewing the moss phlox in Higashimokoto, we also visited Engaru Taiyo no Oka's moss phlox (a small but well-known gem) and the tulips in Kamiyubetsu. (I thought I would go further and see the moss phlox on the waterfall and complete the Okhotsk 3 major moss phlox, but the tulips at Kamiyubetsu were amazing, so I decided to take my time, so I thought I would be able to get there in time for dinner at the hotel.) (I didn't have one, so I gave up.) This time I rented a car with plenty of room instead of my usual compact car, so I felt less tired driving. I have stayed at other hotels at Kawayu Onsen, but I feel this is the best overall, and I have chosen Kawayu Kanko Hotel the last five times. (Up until now, I had been able to arrange this individually, but this time I used a JAL package tour where you can choose your flight and hotel.) The new coronavirus pandemic has also caused changes in the way hotels provide meals. . Previously, there was a private dining room and a half buffet with local produce, but now we have set meals. It would be an unavoidable measure. The goodness of private room-style dining remains the same. The food was also delicious. Indoor baths with high and low temperatures, and open-air baths with medium temperature.The quality of the spring water is excellent. The front desk warned us at check-in, but please be careful as the bathroom floor is slippery. You can take your time in the low-temperature bath, and the hot spring effects will reach the core of your body. The reason why the surfaces in your bathtub look black and dirty is because the plating is peeled off by the sulfur content of the hot springs, and is not due to poor maintenance. I hope there is no misunderstanding. This is proof that it is a real hot spring. The breakfast venue is the convention hall, Laputa Hall, across the breezeway.It is a comfortable venue with a high ceiling. Owed this feedback for too long. We actually stayed in Oct2019. Took a bus from Mashu Station and arrived early before check-in time. Gentleman at reception was so kind to let us into our room on 2nd floor. No lifts and we had 4 luggages for 2 females. Appreciate so much for sending them to the room. Apologies for the trouble but we were spending 1mth in Hokkaido. We stayed 3nights and were very satisfied with room. It's kept to the basic and towels were thin but it's fine as room was very clean and tidy. Rate is unbeatable and stay was pleasant throughout. Thank you for the kind hospitality. For those who don't drive, bus-stop is walking distance to/from Mashu Station.

The hotel is very close to JR Station of Chuantang Hot Springs. It takes about 10 minutes to walk. The front desk service is very good and there is no problem in English communication. At the time of check-in, the hot spring tax is charged per person, 150 yen per person. Booked in a Japanese-style triple room, the room is very warm, the breakfast is good, typical Japanese cuisine, although the taste is not used, but full. The hotel's hot springs are very comfortable, there are not many pools, one indoors, one outdoor, and no other outdoor pools. If you do not consider the traffic, it is recommended to go to the Sulphur Mountain direction, the choice will be more, all the way to the hot spring inn, all natural hot springs. The hotel also provides free help to host a trip, which is very convenient.

Stayed one night at the hostel while passing through town. It's located on a farm, good location to the national park and quiet because it's set so far back from the road. Overall, for one night it was fine. Dorms are good size but even in fall, the room is very hot and stuffy. There is a fan but no other ventilation. Was nice to have a sink in the room to get ready at night. Showers and baths on the main floor are a bit dated but fine overall. A family lives at the hostel and they are nice but not super friendly, and it felt like I was intruding on someone's home. Sound carries VERY well in the building too so if you have noisy people (like I did), you hear everything late at night. Breakfast was good and plentiful, traditional Japanese cuisine. The dinner gets raved about a lot because it's homemade and multi-courses. I thought it was fine, nice change of pace and nice to have a home cooked meal, but I think it's overpriced. That said, there is literally nothing around the hostel so it is a convenience. You cannot cook your own food, any food you bring in, they will store until you leave. Checkout is at 9am, which is ridiculous given the cost of the hostel. Breakfast is from 7:30 - 8:30am but you gotta go at the beginning to get the best pickings. Given the location, it was a fine choice but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay again. While it's a youth hostel and the family aspect would normally be nice, it felt like you were crashing a someone's home and they didn't care if you were there or not. Credit cards accepted and one of the women speaks very good English.

We stayed with 3 families with 1st grade elementary school students. It is a Japanese-Western style room in the villa Ninto. As soon as I arrived at the entrance and opened the car door, I was surprised at the strong sulfur smell. A hot spring river flows right next to it, and expectations are swelling from the time of arrival. When you jump into the actual hot spring, you are surprised at the rich hot water. Although the large communal bath and open-air bath are relatively small, the goodness of the hot water was outstanding. The room is large enough for families. And the food was delicious anyway. Supper and breakfast were buffets, but there were so many delicious dishes that I couldn't eat in one night. I wanted to eat color 々 for many nights. And the customer service of the staff 々 was very warm and comfortable. Especially for children, it was a good memory for the woman who was working on the horns of the deer in the back of the shop.
