At dawn, the rising crimson sun softly tints the snow-covered slopes of Mount Fuji with hues of golden red. Its reflection dances upon the shimmering surface of Lake Yamanaka, creating the breathtaking sight known as the “Double Red Fuji”—a miraculous moment when heaven and earth mirror each other in radiant harmony. It is a masterpiece crafted wholly by nature, inspiring awe with its quiet beauty. Our hotel is located just over ten meters from the lakeshore. Within a few seconds’ walk, you can reach the water’s edge and experience these magnificent, fleeting scenes with ease. Fujikokusai Kaikan Hotel is a villa-style retreat situated just across Lakeside Avenue, moments away from Lake Yamanaka. All guest rooms are equipped with air conditioning and heating, a smart TV, hair dryer, and electric kettle. The bathroom area features a separate toilet, bath, and vanity. Warm interiors combining carpet and tatami offer the comfort of both Japanese and Western styles.

"This hotel is located right by Lake Yamanaka. You can see Mount Fuji across the street from the entrance, and the hotel also offers bicycle rentals. It's about a 10-minute bike ride to Hirano Beach. Getting here is convenient; you can take a direct bus from Tokyo to Yamanakako Asahigaoka Station, and the hotel owner even provides pick-up service from nearby stations around Lake Yamanaka. The hotel has an old-fashioned inn feel, but it's very clean, and the rooms are incredibly spacious! It was very quiet at night, so I slept really well overall. The breakfast was also excellent – what could be better than a hot breakfast after watching the sunrise on a cold morning?"

"I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel in Hakone. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located just 750 meters from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the check-in process was quick and efficient. Dinner was excellent - you can choose your preferred dining time, and the set meal was delicious where you get to try local dishes. The free-flow rice was a nice bonus, and the waitstaff were attentive and friendly. The highlight of my stay was the onsen, especially the outdoor bath where I could relax while listening to the soothing sound of the river. The complimentary popsicles after a soak were also a thoughtful touch. Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would gladly stay here again."

"I was quite worried before my visit, having seen many mixed reviews online. However, I decided to stick with this hotel, primarily due to its excellent location very close to Yumoto Station, which makes getting around incredibly convenient. Upon arrival, I personally found it to be excellent. First off, the room was very spacious. Although the amenities were a bit dated (still using traditional button switches instead of a modern key card system), the vintage charm of this traditional Japanese-style room was actually quite nice. Secondly, staying in a room with a private outdoor onsen at the foot of the mountain during summer, I was delighted to find no mosquitoes. I only spotted one unidentified bug on the day I checked in, and never saw another insect afterwards. What's more, the onsen water was continuously circulating, so the surface was always clean with no debris. Enjoying a hot spring bath at night while stargazing was truly blissful. The breakfast and dinner portions initially looked small, served as individual dishes, but by the end, I was completely stuffed and couldn't finish it all! (𖦹.𖦹) Finally, the overall service was impeccable, from the check-in process at the front desk to the staff attending to us during breakfast and dinner."

"This is a very nice hot spring resort hotel. Finding it at this price during the New Year period is great value. The hotel is quite close to Carved Forest Station, or you can go to Gora; there's a free shuttle bus. If you're taking public transport, you can get off at Tenyu Station. The rooms are large, with balconies, a reasonable layout, separate wet and dry areas, and heating. The hotel itself has a hot spring. If you want to dine at the hotel, you need to make a reservation in advance. There are also restaurants nearby; I arrived quite late and had some yakiniku (grilled meat) nearby."

"This hotel is a paradise in the mountains of Hakone! Traditional style of the rooms - it feels like you are living in a Japanese family. We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!"

"Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The traditional Japanese room was spacious and super comfy. The onsen facilities were definitely the highlight, way better than I expected for the price we paid. They have 3 types: 1 indoor, 1 outdoor and 1 mixed. All these are bookable throughout the day, from 7am to 11pm and they are completely private. The ryokan is 15 minutes walking from Gora station, so if you arrive by train and you have luggage I recommend you check on google map how to get there with a bus, otherwise you’ll have to walk uphill for a while. The only negative point I can find is probably the breakfast, I tried both western and Japanese style, they are both quite pricy for what they are and I personally did not enjoy the Japanese one. Despite this I would totally come back if I ever visit Hakone again."

"The biggest advantage is probably its proximity to Yumoto Station. You don't even need to go upstairs from the second floor; just walk to the end, turn left, take the elevator down, walk forward, turn left, and you're there in two minutes. 1. I planned to explore Hakone during the day and knew I'd miss dinner, so I only booked breakfast instead of the half-board option. That turned out to be a great decision. I definitely got back to Yumoto after dinner service had ended. The breakfast looked beautiful in photos, but it was hard to eat. There wasn't really anything appealing; just a bunch of miscellaneous small dishes and pickles. 2. The private onsen needs to be booked in advance, but it was just okay. 3. If you have a lot of luggage, staying in Yumoto is more convenient for check-in, and there are other restaurants open at night. If you're traveling light in Hakone, I'd probably choose Gora, book dinner at the hotel, and explore the various museums around Gora. For a day trip, you don't need to see everything; just pick one or two places you like."

Nestled in the quiet mountains of Hakone,Kumo Inn Hakone (雲の園箱根) is a small Japanese-style Inn surrounded by nature. The building, which retains the charm of the Showa era, has been carefully renovated to preserve the warmth of the past while offering a comfortable and relaxing stay today. Located in the Gora Onsen area, the inn is within walking distance of Gora Station, making it a convenient base for exploring Hakone while still enjoying a peaceful atmosphere. Relax in our garden, unwind in a private bath, and take a break from the busy pace of everyday life. Like clouds—stay freely, quietly, and let time slow down during your visit to Hakone.

"We had a wonderful stay at Kumo Inn. The traditional Japanese-style room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The private onsen was the highlight of our stay and made the experience truly special. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful nature made it the perfect place to relax. The communication before arrival was clear and check-in was easy. I stayed here with our 5 year old daughter and felt very welcome. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete the Hakone Loop because the ropeway was suspended due to bad weather. That was of course beyond the accommodation’s control and it didn’t affect our enjoyment of the stay. If we return to Hakone, we would definitely stay at Kumo Inn again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing Japanese experience."

This time, I stayed here with my partner. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the food was delicious. The hot springs were very relaxing, and although the open-air bath was a little small, it was nice to be able to enjoy the view while soaking. The hotel has many services to enjoy during your stay, such as table tennis and a karaoke room (for a fee), and they also rent out board games and Othello. However, I was disappointed that the staff at the front desk seemed a little cold when I asked to rent a board game. Other than that, it was a very satisfying stay. They also offer a bus shuttle service, and I think it's great to be able to enjoy delicious food and hot springs at this price. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity.

20 min uphill hike from Gora station. Or you can take cable train up hill for two stations and walk on flatland for about 8 minutes to hotel. Hotel has shuttle bus. They dropped us off on the way back. You can possibly call to pick you up at Gora station. Trip.com reservation options show you prices for one adult. It's very hard to book for 3 people to stay in one room to save money. I sent a custom request to the hotel exactly this - 3 people in one room. Trip.com charged me $270 and when I got to the hotel, they said I have to pay $300+ more for 2 more people. That was not clearly communicated to me by either Trip.com or hotel. There's a language and cultural barrier. In Japan, you pay per person - not by rooms. They scan your all passports of everyone staying - not just the person who books. With last minute notice, I had no choice but to pay more as other hotels nearby are filled up and we were very tired from 4 hours train transfers dragging our bags plus 8 minutes walk to the hotel. All in all, if trip.com room selections are not a perfect fit, I can't recommend booking this hotel. Custom messages are not recognized. Communication is lacking. You will get charged last minute without any alternatives left. For $570 a night, we could have a way better hotel in Hakone. The breakfast also wasn't memorable and you have to reserve it ahead of time. I would not come back.

I would recommend everyone to experience this ryokan at least once. A huge room with a kitchen, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, toilet and a hot bath. There is no window in the room with the bath, but because the bath is hot, you don't feel the coolness, but you can enjoy the views of the mountains. Dinner and breakfast - my respects! Gigantic and filling, but in the Japanese spirit. Fans of continental breakfasts in regular hotels will be sad. The staff is friendly. They try to speak English. It is not always possible to understand each other, but they try very hard! A special plus for this!

We arrived at noon and found that check in proses was so simple, the owner sent me a pin code to open the door. The room looks exactly the same as what shows on photos, including all amenities. Rooms are clean and cozy, spacious for 4 persons event more. I love the bathtub waters adjustment for spas, and it is so relaxing. Only the hot water is a bit difficult to adjust . Toilet are separate from bathroom and provide handwash as well . We didn't cook our meal because all the stores nearby were closed at 3 pm. Make sure to bring your own food because it's not easy to find in Hakone. Easy to walk to the station and Harbor for boat tours, to the cable car and Black Eggs. Highly recommended for all types of travelers If you would like to know more, watch my channel https://youtu.be/69AEoaBs2po?si=otl8rSuvmSVddmfu

We stayed one night with our family. We booked two Japanese-style rooms. The rooms were very nicely decorated. We visited the onsen. There are three different onsen: one inside the building, one across the street, and a separate private onsen. The water was a comfortable temperature, there weren't many people there, and there were pools both inside and outside. We ordered dinner and a kaiseki breakfast: delicious and varied. You can order drinks as well. In the morning after breakfast, a staff member gave us a free ride to Gora Station, which saved us a lot of time and effort. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Such a great find! Calming ryokan in a peaceful part of the mountain. Staff were all super friendly and accommodating of us as tourists who didn’t speak Japanese. Every meal was delicious and the staff took time to tell us what each little dish was and even gave us some extra mini dishes to help us try different things. They were all delicious! The onsens were also very relaxing and had everything you could need. My boyfriend and I booked the private onsen our last night and looking out over the mountain at night when it was raining was a great experience. We got the Japanese style room and it was very spacious and the tatami floors were very comfortable. View over the mountains was also terrific. The ryokan shuttle took us to the nearest two train stations (Gora or Sounzan) in the morning when we requested and picked us up at the end of the day so it was very convenient getting to the ryokan even without a car. Highly recommend this stay!!

Positives 1. Large spacious and clean room. Certainly an upgrade from the smaller Tokyo city rooms we were in. 2. The medicinal tea bar was a hit with our group and an interesting touch to the hotel. 3. The public baths (onsen) were well maintained and clean. 4. The hotel provides yukata robes that you can change into. 5. Breakfast and dinner were decent and necessary judging by the limited number of eateries in the area. There is Gora Brewery just behind the hotel and a Daily Yamazaki convenience store just 1 min walk. 6. You can get to Gora Park in 1 min. Tips to get from Gora station to hotel and vice versa 1. Walking. The steep slope is really not for the faint hearted. 2. When you get off at Gora, hop onto the Tozan line from Gora and get off at Koen Shimo (1 stop). It is covered if you buy the Hakone Free Pass. From Koen Shimo, it is a straight walk to the hotel. Much easier than climbing the slope. 3. Hotel shuttle. From Gora station exit, turn right and you will see an underpass. Go through it and this is where the shuttle picks / drops. We didn’t manage to find out how to get the shuttle from Gora station, but from the hotel - you should book the shuttle in advance as it can get full especially during check out time.

Really enjoyed my stay at Root Hakone. I reached a little late (around 7:30-8pm) and the walk to the hostel was a little dark (roads on Hakone aren’t that well-lit at night due to it being a forested area). So recommend to reach earlier if you’re not that comfortable with walking in the dark alone! The accommodations were comfortable, single futon bed with lockable room doors, separated by a divider. Was initially expecting just a cubbie with a curtain so this was a pleasant surprise. There’s also a direct bus nearby to Togendai Station if you’re keen to take the sightseeing cruise and ropeway. The drinks made by the staff were also wonderful, enjoyed a cassis soda, cassis oolong and fuzzy navel at a great price. The management also gave a guide of nearby recommended places to travellers too (had the best coffee at Amaze Coffee, recommendation of the staff)! Overall would come back to stay again if I’m ever back in Hakone. A downside is perhaps the lack of availability of food options at night and no near konbini so be sure to grab some supplies at the station prior to heading over.

The main courtyard of this hotel is very upscale and only accommodates top-notch guests who can afford a butler. We stayed in the old building in the hotel's side courtyard, the one with the big words ”Fairyland” hanging on it. The room was large, clean and quiet. But there is no elevator, so you have to climb four floors. Customers with large suitcases should order with caution.

the hotel doesn’t have an elevator and the staff didn’t even bother to help us with our luggage. we’re two girls and we had 3 big suitcases. luggage storage is 500¥ per piece and we just wanted to leave it for half an hour. breakfast is provided for 500¥ but it’s just coffee and croissant, i could pay more but get some good food because there are no restaurants nearby. the reception closes at 9 or 10 pm, and there were guests who arrived after that time and asked us for help because there was no one at the counter. the onsen looked kinda disappointing. overall, it’s okay if you’re looking for a budget stay for 1 night, but i would not recommend it
