I would begin by saying that I work in the hospitality/tourism industry in the U.S. I'm an active tour guide and I deal with others in this industry here at home and abroad regularly. I'm not more qualified than others by any means but I deal with enough B&Bs, Lodges, Hoteliers & rental facilities to feel confident in saying, Spean Lodge is fantastic. My wife and I visited Scotland for the first time in September and had a wonderful time, spending two fantastic nights at the lodge, using it as a base while we explored the region. The facility, a magnificent 200 year old estate, is beautiful and ideally located for visiting the greater Fort William area and Loch Ness. As grand as the lodge is however, what makes the experience special (and memorable) are the people who operate it. We dealt exclusively with Paul (the owner) and David and they went above and beyond in making the experience so special for us. Truly, they will take excellent care of you. Personally, I found both gents incredibly interesting and I am grateful that they made time on multiple occasions for some absolutely wonderful conversations about what they do (and have done) and what I do. I felt as though were I a local, it would not have taken any time at all for us to become good friends. My wife and I left when our stay was over feeling as though we were saying goodbye to folks we had known for far longer than the two days we shared with them. I think the best compliment I can give is that we would not hesitate to return and spend more time at the lodge, especially if some of Paul's future plans come to pass. If you enjoy staying in historic estate type B&Bs while traveling, you will not be disappointed here. Additionally, the breakfast was absolutely wonderful. They served the very best Black Pudding I have ever had. I still comment on it a month after getting home.
