Hotel Riu Funana - All Inclusive

Santa Maria|0.57km from Project Biodiversity Turtle Conservation Hatchery
Just got back and had a lovely time at this hotel. We checked in on the rui app however didn't notice much difference at check in because of this. Rooms are a good size and bigger than others I have stayed in at cape verde. The hotel shares the water slide park and kids pools and some of the spa services and also the toilet off the beach and that's about it with Rui Palace hotel. However Rui Palace being and adult only they get to come over to our side for the nights entertainment etc. As we were a couple the pool could get quite busy so next time I would stay at the Palace as the hotels are mirrors of each other. The walk to Santa Maria Town is really close if you go the short way which is via the water park. Don't walk along the beach as it will take you forever over hot sand. On way to beach usual local tour sellers who calm down after the initial pitch and seeing our pale faces but does get a bit boring hello hello hello where you from.Always found the food in cape verde plentiful but lacking great taste. Where as in Tunisia the food just blew my mind even the cakes. You will be fine and water is always topped up in the rooms. The mosquitos love me so you have to be sensible and spray yourselves with deet spray all over and never have door wide open at night and stay wrapped in the bed. Not many around but only takes a couple of them. Saw some real sights with people are bitten round the bottom if the legs however I only got 3 bites in 11 days just being sensible. Yes the hotel shows some wear and tear but the showers are great and powerful no issues with the shower gels nice quality. The balcony have no lights at night so unless you take a torch or use the light from the room it's pitch black. No issue with staff or anyone all doing their best so try and tip them if and when you can. Go easy on them. Drinks were fine and the beer is nice. Yes it's poor and looks like people work but the tour boats and jet skys etc are owned by others and the locals work for these company's. Local currency however they accept euros and as a tourist you will come across most things costing the same if not more than if you were in Europe. No way a local would pay 14 euros for a meal in town excluding drinks but you won't tend to see the local priced options unless you search it out. You will see the guy with the monkey where you can get a picture with the monkey. I have mixed feelings however what do I know about this both benefit from each other and I'm sure the owner looks after his asset.Good mix of nationalitys weather was great. Any horror stories are just that. Never had any trouble only once was I offered a tour from a local in town however nothing is free I found so if anyone wants to show you round or take you here or their when you never asked then don't go or expect to pay for it. Hotel Riu Cabo Verde - All Inclusive Adults Only

Great service from taking our cases from our transport to returning to our transport on our departure. Nice rooms refurbished to a high standard. Great buffet restaurant with wide variety of food and most freshly cooked in front of you. All staff were friendly and helpful. Only fault was no shower cap and the coffee/creamer in the room was not topped up. The mini fridge was though and there were optics with spirits. One of us has mobility issues and uses a walking stick and got about as normal. We were well looked after. Just the odd guest decided to ignore the signs reserving tables for the disabled. The hotel appeared to be wheelchair friendly though we didn't use. We plan to return.

All I can say is AMAZING! First time to Cape Verde and this hotel and will definitely return. Staff are so friendly and helpful, rooms are immaculate, as is the whole resort. I felt so well looked after by all the staff and nothing was a problem. The beach is stunning! Had a fantastic private day tour with Imanuep from the beach and explored the island, paddling with sharks, blue eye, salt lake! The staff here deserve a huge amount of credit as they make the experience feel luxurious and enjoyable! They work so hard and always with a smile! Well done to all!

Great holiday. The hotel complex offers you everything you need: pools, restaurant, bakery, supermarket etc. Reception is friendly. Its a twenty-minute walk into Santa Maria, but there are also free shuttle buses, or a taxi at 4 euros.
Sol Dunas

Spent a week here with my mum and my 4 year old son in the Easter holidays. We booked to stay in the Sol Dunas but think we were staying in the Melia Dunas part. Its impossible to tell where one hotel ends and the other begins, it just feels like one big resort Top tip: soon as you arrive find out how to book your evening a la carte restaurants (when we were here you had to go to Odessy piano bar (inside) from 10.30am). They get booked up quickly. We only dinned in Atlantis and Sahel and both were great Childrens entertainment was excellent. Lollo and Bernie (plus Astrid and the other kids club staff) really made our holiday. My son loved them. The 5.30pm mini disco was a huge hit. I understand this (Lollo and Bernie program of events) has now all finished for the season although the hotel also had kids club facilities. Food and drink. ”Spices” is the buffet restaurant and ”Mosiac” (they are in the same building) is the part open for snacks outside of main meal times . We enjoyed the food. Ate salads all week and some of the meat. Did feel a bit samey at times but we could always find something to eat. You can also have lunch at Aqua which is pizza and pasta and is table service. So nice to mix it up and go there. The a la carte restaurants for evening meals also help provide variety. Coffee is best ordered at the bars, it doesnt taste nice out of the machine in Spices. We were also happy with the selection of drinks served in the various pool/beach bars Kids splash pool was another big hit and we spent almost all of our time here. There are some building works happening next to it but they do not disturb you Our room was large and clean. The houskeeping staff did a great job. Only issues (we did not raise this with the hotel at the time so they ve had no opportunity to address this and it didnt really bother us that much) the safe was temperamental it would lock but then sometimes wouldnt open! The plug in our bathroom sink was also a bit problematic, it would get stuck. If u were not careful the shower also flooded the bathroom. Had to be very careful to angle it away from the shower screen (that had a gap at the bottom). Overall we loved our holiday here and we are already discussing booking for next year (as long as Lollo and Bernie are there!!!) Biggest bit of feedback to the hotel would be: you need to make it easier to find out some of the information on restaurants, meal times, events, etc. The QR codes didnt really give enough. A sheet in the room or information pack would be helpful Thanks for a great holiday!
Melia Dunas Beach Resort & Spa
3.7/555 Reviews
Melia Hotel is divided into Melia Dunas and Sol Dunas, both of which belong to Melia. In the same place, the facilities are shared one after the other, but Sol guests can go to Melia for dining and vice versa. The hotels are all white. There are no descent, it can be said that almost all the hotels in Cape Verde are like this, and most of them are white elderly couples, not many young people, singles are not, and you do n’t need to think about looking for a chance. The room is large and comfortable, the disadvantage is that there are many mosquitoes. After check out, you can still enjoy all the facilities and have a bathroom and a dressing room. One price all-inclusive buffet type is OK, not a lot. The service is very good, you have to answer questions. More recommended hotel near Santa Maria Beach in the south, it's so beautiful!
