Blau Arenal Habana Beach

Santa Cruz del Norte
I am deeply saddened by my recent experience at this resort. There has been a dramatic decline since Covid, and it is unimaginable to think that there is any immediate relief in sight. I do want to applaud the hotel manager, Miguel. However, his vision and initiative-seems to be straddled, by the bigger political scenario. First and foremost:I am so saddened by the ecological decay of the beach, Playa del Este. There was little or no attention to caring for it and debris, broken glass are strewn everywhere. It is distracting and disturbing. I am not sure who’s responsibility it is to care for this. Reasonably, a guest should expect a warm running shower. This was not available. Compared to the last time we visited the resort, the food has severely declined . Also, the live entertainment we had experienced in the past, and hoped for-was simply unavailable, except for some dancing. The dancing was spectacular, but one or two short shows is not enough in a seven day stay. The former climate of hospitality and generosity has been replaced by desperation. Sunwing is responsible for not communicating to its valued customers the currency situation in Cuba. This is mind-boggling and the only currency that Cuban people want is American. They will not exchange your currency at the hotel, and if they do, you will take a very big hit for a very small amount of money. You are invited to rely on the black market for pesos, which you are warned that they could be expired or counterfeit. The sole intent of the this resort experience is to remove you from your cash. At the airport, if you want to get rid of a few pesos- forget it -only American currency . Snatch and grab. I would not return here again . I am so sad for the Cuban people ,when their main conduit for economic prosperity is tourism. What is the next step for this beautiful country? How will it resume its former glory?

I have visited this resort many times and will likely visit again only because of KIKi and the wonderful staff. The Hotel has undergone some upper management changes with management that does not quite understand why people visit a beach resort. I have seen personnel changes that seem completely contradictory to guest satisfaction and a noticeable missing element of the Diamond Club Level of service that is offered at a elevated price. The problem is that the Hotel always seems to be missing some of the most simple things that make the Diamond Club experience incomplete. One example, Tonic water, they are always out of tonic water so if you pay for Diamond Club and your drink is Gin & Tonic , your out of luck. The other issue is the beach bar “ el ranchon” is missing fundamental elements and often closes early even in the warmer months with extended daylight, it’s a Beach Resort, that’s why people visit. I posted photos of the lobby bar and the beach bar for example.
