Best Hotels near Castillo de San Cristóbal, San Juan

This was our first stay in this newly renovated “sister”hotel to the Condado Plaza Hotel across the street. I can easily say that this was the best Hilton Garden Inn I have stayed in. The location is just as you cross into the Condado section of San Juan heading east from the cruise ship terminals or at the end if heading from the airport (a $24 taxi ride). It’s a bit quieter than the heart of the Condado. The entire hotel is gleaming— a beautiful airy lobby that opens into the pool area, a breakfast restaurant, and a bar area. We lucked out on an upgrade to a high corner room with panoramic views of the ocean (picture attached) with a wrap around balcony. The room was nicely appointed and definitely upgraded from the previous property. This will be our new favorite when passing through San Juan on the way to adventures beyond. The only negative is the street noise on the side of the hotel but it was balanced by the view in my humble opinion— the view from the other side is of the lagoon also very nice.

No breakfast at the hotel, the hotel does not have a kettle, but there is a microwave and coffee maker. We went for 3 people, and the room had a standard double bed. If there were 3-4 people, we could put a double bed on the wall of the room. The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the Atlantic Ocean, but the beach here is relatively large, and those who like surfing can surf.

There were some positive things about this place but they're way outweighed by the negatives. First, the positives: - The guy at the front desk when we checked in, younger, slim, tall, black hair - that guy was SUPER friendly, enthusiastic, welcoming. - The location is VERY central. - The room we got was of a decent size - There was no mildew in the shower - The bathroom appeared to have been redone sometime in the past decade or so and looked pretty nice The negatives: - Our room was on the 4th floor. The elevator has apparently not worked in a very long time and they have no forecast for repair. - On the first night, we had no hot water. - From then forward, we had no water at all. Could not flush the toilet and had to buy bottled water to brush our teeth - There was almost never anyone at the front desk in the evenings, there was no one to complain to about these things - The room had no windows - There was a nightly party in the room directly across from ours, and the room doors and walls amplified the sound like the soundhole in a guitar - The room besides the bathroom didn't look like it had been updated since the 70s or 80s. The drop ceiling had water stains on the acoustic tiles which didn't all fit their squares any more and the overall effect was not as quaint as you'd hope. After our second night, we checked out. We gave 24 hours' notice we were going to do this, and the guy said that was ok, that the rest of our stay would be refunded. Which was PARTLY true. When we checked out, the guy at the desk asked why I was checking out early, I told him our stay was less than ideal, and listed all the reasons above. His response to each thing was ”Management is aware of the problem” or ”That's not our fault” and ”We didn't know you had a problem with that.” And that last comment would have been a sensible response if there'd been anyone to let know we had a problem. The guy at the desk changed the room rate - our rate on the agreement being ~100/night, the rate he started to charge us was $160. When I pointed this out and offered to dispute the whole charge with Visa he ”reduced” it to $140/night and said the difference was because our rate was for the ten night stay. He then calculated the rate for three nights and I had to explain to him that arriving on Saturday and leaving on Monday was only two nights, and again I'd just dispute the whole thing with Visa's fraud department, and he backed it off to two nights. The end result, instead of $940 for 9 nights on our original contract, I was charged just south of 300 for two nights. Lesson learned. To be clear: I was as polite as I could be and said over and over that I didn't think any of this was his fault, and I think his price and day count miscalculation was because he was flustered. Stayed for six days, the experience is very good, the room decoration is not luxurious, but it is very clean Surprised that there is a lot of food and delicious Chinese food

The location of the hotel is good, just near the international airport, which is more convenient. But the hotel service is very general, and I am particularly dissatisfied: 1. We booked three superior rooms with a view for six nights, but only two rooms were fulfilled. One room defaulted to a small low-rise ordinary room. After many negotiations, the contract was barely fulfilled until the fourth day. 2. The hotel is very dishonest and added 78 yuan for other people’s meals to our bill. After we found out, the receptionist's attitude was extremely bad. After consulting with the restaurant manager, he admitted that there was a mistake in his work and refunded us 78 yuan. U.S. dollars, but not even an apology. This is disappointing because of the loss of intercontinental standards!

The hotel room was very comfortable. The swimming pool brought many people during the day and afternoon, and there was a smell of urine by the pool. The location is also good. A taxi to the old town will cost around 10 knives and will not spend too much on traffic. Breakfast was good too!

It was an excellent hotel. The front desk staff was extremely helpful—a special thanks to Alejandra and also to a young guy (how I wish I would remember his name) at the concierge desk- who made my trip memorable by guiding me to do some fun things on this short trip.

Our stay at the Courtyard Isla Verde was during spring break March 31st ——April 3rd room was outdated with a musky smell immediately exiting the elevator the only day we got our room serviced housekeeping stole my Grandson’s Apple Watch and we flipped that room upside down to look for the watch when this was reported to the manager on duty they were very unconcerned and made it seems as if we were lying they never got back with us after telling my Daughter that security will get back with us the next day my Daughter had to be proactive and call them again she then spoke with the housekeeping supervisor who stated she was not aware of the incident only after my Daughter asked for Valet slips to show check in and out times to show the head of Security came and spoke with us we were gone from 10 am until about 6 pm and the watch last registered at the hotel at 1:45 and we were not there at that time the lady that is head of security proceeded to say that the person who serviced our room clean it about the same time the watch mysteriously disappeared but also made the remark that the housekeeper has been with them for a while it has been a week and we have gotten no response from our call and complaint to corporate office our the security lady who took our info Beware of this hotel not only do the employees steal and lie it’s in need of a major update we stayed in room 816 becareful the balcony rails are loose and they had two wedding receptions Fri and Sat night and the bldg were the reception was held is located right below the balcony of room 816 the music went on into the wee hours of the night

The hotel is uniquely located at the beachfront, with beautiful scenery and bright sunshine. Sitting on the beach, watching the tides, strolling in the resort complex, and swimming in the beautiful pool, great!
