My wife and I stayed at Salerno Centro Bed and Breakfast for eight nights in October. It was the second time we have stayed here, and we would not hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to others. Located in an historic 16th century building, the B&B is clean, comfortable, and inviting. Francesco, Mama Lina and Pasquale made us feel at home. All three are lovely people. Lina is a wonderful cook; Pasquale is always ready with a quip as well as to lend a hand. Bilingual Francesco is full of insights about where to visit and what to see on the Amalfi Coast, and is quite simply the best host one could have. He drove us on two side trips, one to Pietrabbondante, a village in Molise where my wife’s family is from, and another to Cetara, a small village on the outskirts of Salerno with spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Salerno Centro is conveniently located within walking distance of the train station, a promenade of shops and restaurants, and the lungomare with amazing views of the sea. Eat at nearby Osteria Angelo Masucccio and Tagliere e Calice di Salumeria del Corsi if you can and visit Salerno landmarks like the Duomo. .We found Salerno to be an ideal location for exploring the Amalfi Coast, It’s less costly and less touristy than Sorrento, where many English-speaking tourists stay. You can catch a ferry from Salerno to travel to Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, and Capri, or travel by train to Naples, Pompeii, Paestum, Herculaneum, and Caserta Palace, Campania’s Versailles. The location, in short, is superb, and with Francesco as your guide to the region you simply can’t go wrong.
