Mermaid Inn

The Mermaid Inn is such a charming hotel with a unique vibe! The staff is generally friendly and professional, and the hospitality is top-notch! The hotel and our bedroom were spotless, thanks to the amazing housekeeping! But there are issues . Parking; be prepared to try and squeeze in the limited number of tight car parking spaces, due to the age and location of the building, or like us park in a local car park at an amazing rate of £3 per day, only a 5 minute walk away. Room 25 is situated near the kitchen extractor fan system. Upon arrival, a noticeable fried fish odour was present. Additionally, a low-frequency hum emanates from approximately 6:30 am to 10 pm which is highly irritating and detracts from relaxation, which woke my wife each morning. The cooked breakfast is stunning, first class ingredients cooked to perfection. The continental is extremely lacking and not great quality. Bar food, the fish and chips were great! But the mushy peas were a bit of a letdown—they were more like mashed garden peas with butter. My wife’s main course was a watermelon, strawberry, and feta salad, which was a bit of a mixed bag, you know? It felt like it was trying to be both a starter and a dessert, not quite hitting the mark as a main course. Maybe it would have been better served at breakfast! Basically, it was a bit of fruit floating around in pomegranate syrup. Plus, there were only about six or seven tiny feta cubes, and instead of salad leaves, there were just a few micro basil leaves sprinkled on top. A very over priced dish missing the mark!

Very atmospheric old hotel in the centre of Rye. Been around since Tudor times and is supposed to be *******, although we didn’t see any unearthly presence. Very friendly staff, many of who had been there a long time which is always a good sign. Restaurant was excellent with a good choice and quality ingredients. Nice breakfast too.

We loved this historic hotel in the centre of Rye situated up a cobbled street. Within walking distance from shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. Beautiful old building with so much charm and character. We booked a small double room on the top floor. I wouldn't recommend booking one of these rooms if you have walking difficulties as the stairs are very steep. The room was spotlessly clean and big enough for us. It had sloping ceilings so you had to watch your head! The bed was really comfortable. Our room had tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a bath and shower attachment. Breakfast was included in the room rate. I had the cooked breakfast which was delicious. Vegetarian and vegan options available. There's a beer garden to the rear that was really popular on the Saturday afternoon we arrived. Highly recommend this hotel if you're looking to stay in an old building with lots of character. All the staff we encountered were polite, helpful and friendly.

Very high recommende for everyone who on holiday in Rye and want to feel English traditions. We have a holiday in Rye every year, The Mermaid Inn is the best hotel in Rye for us and such a beautiful history of England. The room is clean and linen, and the pillows are clean. All staff are high performance and well trained.

Himself had booked us into the Mermaid Inn at Rye for my birthday lunch, and it was a treat indeed. We were seated in the small room off the restaurant, by the window, and had very friendly service from the two lovely girls on duty. We started with duck egg arancini with mushroom sauce, followed by Seabass on a bed of spinach, samphire and capers, with a burnt butter sauce on the side. We slso shared a portion of very good chips! Pud was a peanut parfait with salted caramel. As we were already quite full, we shared this pud - it was absolutely scrummy. I don't think either of us could have eaten a whole portion each. Service was excellent and I had the bestest of birthday lunches. Thank you Mermaid, highly recommend.

Beautiful and large room (6) in an excellent hotel. Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff. Breakfast was plentiful with attentive service. Location perfect in the centre of lovely and quaint Rye a real treat so will certainly return. Thank you all at the Mermaid.
