A great 2 night stay in Rye at the beginning of January. The hotel was exactly as expected from the previous excellent reviews: comfortable, very friendly and welcoming, perfect location with probably the best views in town. Our super king size bed was very comfy, with crisp snowy white linen, massive pillows and a snuggly duvet. The room was warm, shower was hot and powerful. Breakfast freshly cooked and very attentive staff. As others have commented, the decor is a little tired and shabby but we booked knowing that (from reading these reviews) and in all honesty it added to the charm of this extremely reasonably priced hotel.

Had a lovely stay. Room was fine. As noted by everyone, decor was a little dated and wires everywhere but a pleasant room aspect, and everything was clean. Breakfast tasty though set times! Nice little lounge to sit in. Great location in a beautiful and bustling town. Great little stay! easy walk to train station.

We booked room 23 for our anniversary this past weekend, the staff are friendly and the breakfast was well organised and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately it was let down by a poor or no maintenance. I have included pictures for you to see , black mould on the shower celing covered with a white aerosol, lock completely missing on showed room door , chandelier missing and broken , slats in the blind missing . Broken bedside light and no lampshade at all on one side .I have included pictures. We were made to pay before we even saw the room .

Quirky hotel set high in the town with good views from bedroom, dining room and bar. Decor is a bit tired and shabby, but bed was large and comfortable with excellent bed linen and towels (we have since bought the same bed linen for home use) and the room was comfortably warm. All staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, cooked breakfast took a little while to arrive, but was obviously freshly prepared with high quality produce. We stayed for my 75th birthday and had the choice of numerous excellent restaurants, all within an easy walk of the hotel. Rye is a very compact town and the hotel location is ideal, we parked a few minutes walk from hotel and left the car for our 3 day stay. We were there for the Rye Bonfire and Fireworks, which is highly recommended, again, the torchlight procession passed close to the hotel. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. It’s not easy to find when driving but the location is great with some lovely views. Staff were first class and couldn’t have done more. The room was comfortable - nice bed but low water pressure which made the shower a bit feeble. Small improvements to attention to detail would have given a higher rating ie having a hair dryer actually in the room, having a proper roll of toilet paper and not one virtually empty on arrival. A major issue is the hotel offering of booking a table for dinner in Rye, with the George Grill being pushed with an offer of a 10% discount. We fell for it and had an awful meal and experience. Maybe we should have read more reviews of the George before accepting the offer.

We had an amazing stay! The room was a good size and had everything we needed for us and our baby. All the members of staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and had a lot of variety. Location was great with views and close to the town centre. We will stay again as it was so reasonable, you couldn’t ask for more.

Unassuming, traditional hotel enjoying a super location in the centre of Rye. We had a very pleasant 2 night stay in a family room. Lovely large room with very comfortable beds and great view. All was clean, shower was hot and staff very nice. Breakfast was very good quality and lots of choice. The decor is a bit mismatched and tired in places but we liked the faded grandeur of the place and the literary links made it special. This is no hotel parking, but we parked in a public car park less than 5 minutes away. I think you can drive up to it to drop your luggage off but we just took ours straight from the car park no problem. It is a bit steep but all of Rye is a bit steep and higgledy piggledy so it might be an issue all round of you have mobility issues. We would definitely return and recommend to others, as long as you’re not too fussy about perfect decor etc.
