We have just had an evening meal at the Playden Oasts Inn - the lady serving us was very friendly and the service was efficient. However, I had the vegan/vegetarian shepherds pie and to say the least it was an interesting experience. I have to question whether I have just eaten a microwave meal which was put into a white dish, due to its poor presentation and disappointing quality. The accompanying veg reminded me of school dinner veg in the 70’s - yellow cabbage, with a few carrots and peas mixed in. My husband had the steak pudding which to be fair was enjoyable without being spectacular. The strawberry meringue sundae and trio of icecream scoops we chose for pudding were underwhelming in terms of quality. All a bit disappointing.

The building looked as advertised, benches were a bit rickerty then most pub gardens have one or two unusable ones, the path to the room block, slabs a bit more uneven than you might expect, random bark nailed to walls to give aged look, but nothing prepared me for the room, first glance it's a bit dark but I like dark so that was okay but quickly realised I'd thrown away the cost of 2 days stay and we left after 20mins, yes we were offered another room but they already offered this one as suitable accomodation, last time I saw this "vibe" was stdent halls, not what I expect froma hotel. Chair seats work through pleather to fabric, covered by too small seat pads, toilet cistern yellowed with age here with a rusty top screw, bed screw standing proud, rest full of filler, not sure how strong it would have been to sleep on, cabinet had unidentified brown stain on edge of drawer, skirting coming away, wish I had taken more shots now as a warning to others to save themselves disappointment I wanted a relaxing base, from the blurb this would have been ideal for sightseeing in the area, perhaps the no refund when booked should have been a clue but good reviews so still booked. Mistake, It is the first time I have walked away from a place, even as I sat having a breakdown over the room I asked if I was imaging it was as bad as I thought-he had already found another hotel for the night so he didn't have to drive home. My chosing to book this room cost more than money, it ruined the day, my mood and cut the holiday short so if like us you work hard for that week a year hol and want a ground floor room I suggest you look elsewhere, It's my opinion of the room, I did read the good reviews which I assume was for the other rooms, the pics are below

Kind of stumbled onto this place by accident and glad to say we did. We brought our two dogs and it was perfect for them, as the room had a small, secure garden. Bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy and clean. We stayed for an evening meal and it was one of the best, wholesome meals we have both had in a long time. Price was very reasonable too. The cooked breakfast was also delicious. All the staff were very accommodating, efficient and friendly.

A weekend break away in the Playden Oasts Inn was a lovely chance to get away and see some of Sussex. From when we arrived until we left after a weekend break the whole experience was wonderful. We stayed in a round room with the quaintness of the bath/shower behind a screen but the Inn had all the amenities that you would expect to find in a larger hotel. Nothing was too much and we enjoyed the restaurant for a large sized portion of inviting food with plenty of choice. The stand out for us in this inn was the service, the Inn team worked hard to make you feel welcome and both dinner and breakfast was as we would expect made even better by the chatty, friendly staff. Much of the original kilns can still be seen and we were fortunate enough to see behind the scenes one of the large kilns. I read some of the previous reviews but would say that our experience for the 6 of us was as good as we would want. Thank you Playden Oasts Inn, I would recommend you.

Lovely Oast and not far from Rye. The staff were friendly and the dinner was excellent. We stayed in room 5, which was clean ...the down side the shower was not powerful enough it just trickled out. The bed could do with upgrading no spring to it. I agree the coffee was not good. But overall we did enjoy are time there. I must highlight they have a beautiful inglenook it was a shame it was not functioning. Thank you

Our stay was disappointing - our room smelt very strongly of damp (making our belongings smell) the hallways smelt of cigarette smoke and the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbours conversations and they could hear ours. It was a rather uncomfortable stay, and not worth the price of the room. I wrote to the hotel to complain about our experience, and they quickly got back to me and offered a full refund - I was extremely grateful for their speedy resolution! Potentially, if there was a nice room for a more reasonable amount of money, we would stay again, but we definitely not stay in that room again!

We stopped off here for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, good portions and piping hot but oh my! The lady behind the bar must have missed the course in hospitality. No smile, no appreciation for our custom, just seemed miserable and not thankful for our custom. Disappointing experience.

The lady who served us in the evening was fantastic. The meal dissapponting. The room was clean but dated. Bed uncomfortable and noisy. Not enough pillows Breakfast was very poor and the service terrible. Same lady as clearing rooms, then serving and I know she didn't have time to wash her hands!!!
