Holiday Inn Express Boston - Quincy

I booked this hotel because it was the least expensive place I found anywhere remotely close to Boston. While it was far from cheap, it was affordable. It's also a very nice hotel. I arrived just shortly after noon. The desk clerk was extremely pleasant and accommodating. While I expected to just leave my bags and go out exploring, he actually checked me into a room immediately. The hotel couldn't be better located. It's a block and a half to the North Quincy 'T' station. You can go from your room to the red line platform in five minutes and then easily get anywhere greater Boston. While for some reason they keep the front door locked at all times, the area around the hotel seems quite safe. It's mostly transit-oriented development--brand new condo towers and a variety of chain stores and restaurants. The room was large, immaculate, and quite well appointed. The only thing I'd improve is the lighting. It seemed quite dark both by day and night. Some overhead lighting options would be nice. Another quirk was that the alarm clock was set to the wrong time, and there didn't appear to be any way to set it correctly. While I use my phone as the actual alarm, I do like to look at the clock if I should wake in the middle of the night. With one exception, the hotel facilities seemed quite nice. The exception is the ice machines. They are strange (quite different than what most hotels use), and they seem to break down frequently. They really should swap these out for a more standard alternative. Those quirks do not lower my rating, though. The room was nice, and the breakfast was also quite good. When I return to the Boston area, I'll very likely stay here again.

The overall is not bad, the service is okay, the room is clean but the room is a bit small. Sound insulation is also good. The location is ok and the price/performance ratio is high.

We had a great experience here. I had three rooms rented for a group and we didn't have an issue with any of the rooms or amenities. Rooms were all clean and well stocked. Food at the restaurant on site was great. The breakfast was great. And everyone at the front desk was very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay.

I travel enough to know what to expect. My stay at this hotel was mixed and while most employees were helpful there were a couple that should probably not be customer facing. I will start by saying my first complaint may be partly my issue. We booked a weeklong stay through JetBlue Paisley for 209 a night. I then decided after to come in a day early and booked directly through the hotel. When I called I mentioned my week booking and asked if the rate for one night added would be the same and was told it would be. My part? I received the confirmation but did not scroll to the bottom where the rate showed to be over 400 for one night. I assumed what I was told would be the rate. Shame on me. When we arrived and was told the rate I explained the situation and was told that they don’t know what we pay 3rd part bookers and that it was impossible no matter what that I was paying 209 a night even with third party. They would not back down form the high rate and arriving at 11PM I was not feeling like arguing. I was told to speak to the manager which I did and was told he’d bring it to the general manager. Almost a week later I still have not heard back. That’s the first part. As we got to the room the card would not open the door so we went back to desk and they re-programmed it. Went back up and still could not get in. Mention of possible broken lock was mentioned so I asked if we could just get another room and was told they were sold out. Building engineer was called and he determined that room was already occupied. Back to the desk again and they were able to magically come up with another room. Off to a good start and it did not get much better after that. At least one elevator of two was down almost the whole time and one morning both were down. The fire alarm went off at 7AM one morning and I assume it was related to broken elevators as there were signs saying to use stairs which were according to signs on second floor alarmed summoning the fire department and of course setting of alarm. A little foresight on hotels part to maybe disable alarm during the elevator outage may have prevented people walking through an alarmed door that they were told to use. We were also told there would be a 100 dollar hold for incidentals such as parking etc. I was fine with that and we exceeded that by about Thursday by about 20 dollars. They then put a 278 dollar hold on my card for a day or two for the remainder. It was only 2 days!!! I am still waiting for them to release that and for an answer as to why such a high hold. I was told the GM would call me and have left messages and still have not heard back almost a week later. The room itself while billed as a suite was small though that was not an issue as we don’t spend much time in there. It was clean and maid service was good. Hope if you stay here it goes better for you than for us. So much for a relaxing vacation.
