We wanted to stay close to the airport, a short drive to town, with easy access to the highway towards Te Anau/Milford Sound. This hotel ticked all the boxes. At first arrival, we entered the parking lot and noticed how tight and small the parking spots were. After an elevator ride up to the lobby, we met with staff who were very professional and kind. We went to our room which was nice and updated, had a great view, and a spacious floor plan. We did have an issue with the sink, where it was clogged when we got to the room. While we went to visit Queenstown, a staff member unclogged the sink but didn’t clean it so when we arrived back, the residue from the clogging was still in the sink. A disappointment, and ironically a perk, was the small balcony. Most of the small balcony was used up by an air conditioner. The positive is you had a nice view of the mountains and Queenstown. The bed was large and comfortable. The couch, living area, and kitchen were really nice. We really enjoyed the shower and took advantage of the hot water while we had it. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The DoubleTree cookies are always a plus too.

The front desk staff is outstanding .Very helpful and friendly . The rooms are lovely .. the in room fireplace is a great touch ! The spa is great - very professional! The food and beverage needs to be improved .Stacks is ok.. but when I went , 1 hour before closing they were more interested in closing than they were in getting my order correct . The bar snacks at the Pinot pit need more variety and healthy less expensive options.

Friendly front of house and house keeping staff. Although there are staffing shortages everywhere, the staff here were always available and helpful. Our house keeping team although on a 3 day turn around service, did not get to service our room while we were there, offered towels and extra tea, coffee without hesitation when requested. Thank you so much! The decor is quite out dated and while at first it was off putting, (cream/green interior hallway and furniture, corridor stained carpets, seeing the size of our room and how clean it was made up for it. The bed was a king/possible super king, very comfortable and extra pillows provided. The continental breakfast is more than sufficient. Again the waiting staff I approached where happy to top up, add more (the pastries). Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Quite close to the town centre, within walking distance with free parking. Back in dec 23 there was a lot of road construction so the experience could be better. But the hotel staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Bed was comfortable and had a balcony (ground level) to dine out with beautiful skyline.

I stayed in a King Mountain View room, and while the room felt small it was made up for the fact it was new, modern, well designed and comfortable. The open plan entrance and lobby area felt welcoming. The buffet breakfast included in the room rate was essential and super convenient to fuel up before heading up to the mountain early every morning. And happy hour in the lobby in the evenings 5-7pm. It is 5 minute downhill walk to the start of town and a 9 minute walk to the NZ Ski bus. On the way back to the hotel there is one block of steep hill to walk up but it is only a two minute section. Even though it was only a short walk into town, after a full day on the snow, travelling back and fourth to the mountain, it was hard to get the energy up to walk into town for dinner each night, being cold and tired. I caught the bus from the airport to the hotel which was super easy and a quick 20 minute ride. The airport bus stop is right outside the terminal. I bought a Bee card on the bus for $5 and the trip was only $1 for adults and 0.75c for children. The bus stopped at Blue Peaks directly across the road from the hotel. And the return bus trip to airport was just as simple. Overall a great stay, with new modern facilities, a fairly central location and friendly staff.

The up side: Location is very handy for town. Bed was comfortable. Reception staff very efficient and pleasant. The down sides: A very dated and impersonal bleak hallway to get to our room. Threadbare carpeting. Carpeting in our room very thin and rucked in areas. Bathroom very dated - wooden trim surround between bath and walls. Chipped bathroom door and rusting/chipped bath and sink. Scalding hot shower with temperamental tap/temperature gauge. Spluttering gushing water pouring out of the 'shower' like a big tap/water hydrant rather than a shower. Very unpleasant and felt quite dangerous. The bathroom sink was very low and I am just over 5ft tall and had to lean over. The toilet didn't flush very well. I was going to make a cup of tea before we left however the milk carton in the fridge was half full and had been snipped open and used. I therefore did not make a drink! I have emailed the general manager at the property but have had no response. I don't recommend this as a place to stay. I have stayed several times in the Scenic Suites part of this property without any hitches. I have lived locally for over ten years however wouldn't stay here again. This was a treat for my daughter and I and I feel very disappointed as the money spent on the room does not refect the quality and value received. Very pricey for what is on offer.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We were a family group so we required three rooms. Everything was beautiful, comfortable and cosy. However the highlights were the evening meal(s) we had at the restaurant. We stayed three nights and had such a wonderful time the first night we dined at the hotel that we ended up eating there every night. The menu was comprehensive, our group ordered widely and we all enjoyed each dish. I particularly loved the pumpkin soup, but the steak and pork dishes as well as the hamburgers , were equally popular. Attention was paid to detail, and this was especially the case with the deserts and their superb presentation. The staff were cheerful and generous and made us feel like welcome guests.

We keep returning to Shades of Arrowtown because it is just perfect for our needs. The cottage ( no. 10) was spacious, comfy couch, a place to hang clothes, a comfy king sized bed and the ensuite had a spa bath. 2 days after it snowed, we sat outside on the deck to enjoy the spring sunshine and then moved into the shade when it got too warm. Shades of Arrowtown is so well positioned, it makes walking to all the cafes and restaurants so easy. Brenda is an absolute sweetie. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Brenda

UUkwonderboyCannot believe how good this place was!... We ended up getting a private 8 bed dorm for 6 of us, the room itself got a little hot, but the staff quickly brought us a fan which helped massively. Toilets and showers were so well kept and the lounge, washing machines and drying rooms made the whole process so easy. Kitchen is absolutely huge and perfect if you plan to prepare you food there. But the staff were something else, unbelievably friendly and one lady even lent me 50c out of her own purse for the lockers, completely didn't need to do it but wanted to help me out!... An absolute gem! I will DEFINITELY be staying here again in future.

GGuest UserThe location was the best part for us. It was very central in Queenstown and surrounded with many good restaurants, bars and shops. If you are planning on skiing or doing an excursion there are many pick up spots and tour operators near the hostel as well. The room was a good spot to sleep. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and they provided a nice small space heater to keep the room warm if needed. We didn't have any body wash on our first night in the shower, we reported to the front desk and they gave us a couple of bars and we were told that they would replace in the morning but when we came back it was unfortunately not replaced but we did get another small bar of soap. The remote in the room was disgusting and covered in what I imagine was at one point part of some good fried chicken or possibly pizza but everything else seemed to be fine. Check in was a little tricky because there is self check in/check out tablets at the entrance. We couldn't figure out the right combination of booking reference number and name because we had received Jucy's confirmation code in a separate email. The attendant did offer to help us out but we got the right combo at that very moment. You can pick your cards to activate them and we had no issues with this part but later that evening my card deactivated and I went to the front desk a second time to get it working on our first night. The hotel has some very good signage and arrows to tell you where your rooms are and the amenities (rooftop bar/restaurant, laundry room and kitchen area). The hotel seems to be more of a party hotel and when we arrived there was lots of drinking and people having a good time. This went well into the night and the noise seemed to travel well down the hallway from the rooms that were hosting. We could also hear our neighbour coming and going throughout the first night but it was relatively quiet between 12-6. We picked this hostel for the location and to save a little bit of money for excursions. It did get very busy in our area the first night we were there but after that we had no issues with the traffic. It was a 15 minute ride to the airport in the Uber and the bus stops at the nearby Stanley St bus hub and only takes about 25 minutes to go to/from the airport with limited traffic.

GGuest UserThe decor reminded me of an Austin Powers movie - it was quirky and colorful. Our two rooms were quiet. The room amenities - coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sparkling water, cookies, popcorn were appreciated. It is a short walk to downtown Queenstown. Our travel company booked our rooms along with our tours so I can not speak to price as it was all included in our trip. I would use this hotel again as the beds were comfortable and the rooms large and clean. Just be aware that breakfast is not served until 8 am - we missed it two out of our three days since we had early tours. When we were able to use it on our last day the ham & cheese croissants were great.

GGuest User1. Location: It's convenient and great if you don't have a car as it's only 10 mins away from the city centre. There is a bus stop to go to the airport and city just next to the hotel. There's the Queenstown Trail track just down the road if you wish to have a pleasant walk along the lake. 2. Service: The guy who did our check-in did it like he was repeating a song that he was fed up with singing. Good for those in a hurry who like express check-in with 0 personalization or care but that was NOT a 5* check-in. 3. Room: Booked a standard room on Luxury Escapes, but I don't think the hotel should be on this ”high standard” booking platform. Our room was on the ground floor, so everybody could see us and our belongings. The room was old and small. We had very little room left being 2 people with 2 big luggages. One of the two glasses in the bathroom was still dirty from the previous guests. The blinds didn't work properly and we had to find tricks to close them so people wouldn't see us get changed or sleep! Your sleep might get disturbed if passersby are loud and drunk lol. The washing machine was literally just in front of our room door (a thin door) and woke us up super early one morning. The TV didn't work. Big lack of plugs outlets. Overall, if you're planning on spending the entire day outside and getting back to the room just for sleep then you're fine but don't expect anything fancy.

GGuest UserI booked this hotel so we could be close to LUMA. I read some really mixed reviews and was a little nervous. But we had the BEST stay! Right from calling up as I made a mistake booking online, the man who I spoke to was so helpful, accommodating my large family group over three rooms . It was a really really busy weekend at the hotel with Luma on and kings birthday, but the staff were all so lovely and friendly despite being run off their feet, Highlights were the comfiest beds ever, the fab spa pool which was a hit with us adults and kids( you book a slot at reception), and the amazing lake front view from the lake front rooms. There was even a kids corner near reception with Xbox game, books and a few toys. The reviews online had been average for the breakfast. While it wasn’t ground-breaking, it was more than fine and the custard danish pastries were delicious! Overall, we had a fab stay and would definitely book again.

CCarlieMSWe stayed here two separete nights. We booked in advance and we were nervous to book the same hostel in case we didn't like it, but fortunately we did and it didn't dissapoint at all. The recepcionist was nice and welcoming to us, everything is clean, it has several kitchens and the common room is like a huge family room with sofa, covers, TV and board games all super cozy which is the perfect enviroment to NOT have a heart attack when you find out that the borders where you are connecting home are all closed and probably you'll have to stay in NZ forever (not a bad thing tho, but I was pretty poor at that point, lol). Anyway, the people is nice, the dorm room has its own bathroom inside which is a massive YES! The lockers are huge plus there are tiny lockers with outlets inside to put your devices (genious). The bunks are hardly bunks because they are pretty solid wood-made so even if your bunkmate moves a lot you won't notice. It has a courtine which is awesome for privacy, its own night light and outlets by your bed. Maybe the only downside is that the parking lot is really (really) tiny, which makes it very difficult to maneuver, specially when you have never driven in the left before, jaja. Other than that, awesome stay, if I ever go back to Queenstown, definetely would stay here again! :)

GGuest UserI stayed here two nights on a Riviera Tour of New Zealand. The hotel consists of different linked buildings. However it is very easy to get lost despite them giving you a map. Our rooms overlooked the gardens unfortunately and not the lake. The rooms were ok. A bit tired and in need of refurbishment. However the beds were comfortable with good quality bedding and pillows. The location of the Hotel is at the top of a very steep hill that leads into Queenstown. The walk up is taxing for older people so be aware. The hotel has the usual facilities of bar, restaurant gym and pool. I can't comment on the gym or pool as we did not have time to use it. The outlook from the hotel is over the lake towards the Remarkable Mountains one of the locations used in Lord of the Rings. It is an absolutely stunning place. Queenstown has lots to do. We took advantage of this. The breakfast was good with hot and cold buffet. Plenty of fresh fruit and pastries as well. A group of us ate in the bar on evening after a tour. Everyone enjoyed their food. Drinks were not to expensive either. The place is a pain to find your way round, so allow time for getting lost when meeting people.

GGuest UserGreat location, this facility is suitable for those not fussy about where they stay. I did not enjoy it. I think I was expecting more and didn’t do enough research. I imagined there was the backpackers part and also a motel part of this facility. The room is what it is and it just wasn’t for me. Below is my experience of the facility. The room was dirty and very basic with no breakfast capability in room. No bowls, spoons etc if there were these items in the building somewhere to use, I was not advised of this. The Air con can not be controlled from the bedroom and you need to go down three floors to reception to ask them to set it to the temperature you want. You need to do this every time. The pillows are stained yellow and I was only given one pillowcase for two pillows. I’m not sure what was expected with the other. The shower door opens in front of the faucet making it difficult to switch on without getting wet. There was cobwebs and dust on vents and aircon. The balcony is very small but looks out over the beautiful lake and mountains. The balcony was shared with the neighbouring room. The carpet had something spilt on it which had not been cleaned. It wasn’t stained, it was hard and dried. The beds were comfortable enough and the sheets were crisp and white. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again as I prefer my hotels a lot nicer and more resourced but for a young adult looking for somewhere to sleep for a party weekend/backpacker I’d say it’s more than suitable.

GGuest UserGreat place to stay with different choices for rooms. I stayed in 3 different rooms. I liked the Double private rooms that had a bathroom with shower. The double bed was comfortable & there was also a single which I used for my luggage. It was roomy enough for 2 people but traveling solo it was really perfect. The shared kitchen & lounge area for this building (one upstairs & another on 1st floor) were huge & clean. Due to a last minute booking at end of my stay I had to stay in a 4 bunk room (just me in the room) that was small & I thought dark. However, the bunk was comfortable & the shared single shower was on the same floor but toilet was on 1st floor as were the lounge & small kitchen. There were only 3 rooms in this building that shared the facilities but for me it wasn't the best. However, I highly recommend the Lodges other rooms & all rooms were very clean. When I changed rooms I put my bags in a secure storage until my next room was ready. The staff was exceptional & the location great. It was about a 10min walk to the main part of town which had great restaurants & stores. In the other direction was a grocery about a 5 min walk from the Lodge. Wifi was very good & they give you different codes because one was only good for a certain length of time before it expired. Also you need a different code for each device you use. I really enjoyed my stay here & would choose it again.
