Find 2-Star Hotels in Pingyao

I have to say this is the best accomodation in my entire Shanxi trip in which i stayed in 5 facilities. I truly appreciate the service provided, i got what i needed in a timely manner. As a solo traveller in a foreign country (i can speak simple mandarin, but cannot read chinese), i was glad that the proprieter could pick me up from Pingyaoguzhen station. Although i initiated the request, from then on, about 5 minutes before the train arrived Pingyao, he was proactive to send me a voice message on wechat when he arrived at the station and shared a photo to identify himself. The journey was 15 minutes in the car, followed by a tuk tuk as cars are not allowed to enter the ancient city during the day. The point of entry to the facility is via the north gate, it is a 3 minutes walk to Ma family mansion and about 10 minutes walk to the centre of the ancient city where most of the good restaurants are located. I booked a traditional chinese design room on the ground floor with the dragon-phoenix bed and another day bed. I did not ask, but i guess the facility is an old house that was built more than 100 years ago, there is a sign at the external wall of the homestay that indicate it is a protected building. As it was an old house, i was surprised that the room was clean, just the bathroom was slightly deteriorated (there is no separation of wet vs dry). The blanket in traditional dragon & phoenix design and traditional pillows with seed-like fillings were clean and odourless, i was so glad. Although the mattress was quite thin, it was not hard, i was glad. The proprieter gave me a map and explained the layout of the old city how to get around, where to eat, and help arranged shared car to Qiao family mansion. Upon checking out, i was given a bottle of locally brewed vinegar. The proprieter was not around when i left, he sent me voice message to arrange transport for my trip to the train station. I actually felt sorry when i told him that i booked another place in the more happening area of the ancient city (south gate) after checking out from his place. There are many buggy cars operating in the ancient city, charging ¥10/trip, you can tell the driver your desired destination and he/she will drop you at the door step or the closest drop off point if that area is not accesible.

From start to finish everything was perfect! The communication was easy and friendly, and they came to pick us up when we arrived at the north gate of the town. So nice! The owner speaks English which was helpful. The hotel is in a quiet sidestreet and is very cute. Good looking courtyard inside and spacious rooms. Clean and comfortable. The owners helped a lot with planning our stay and we would stay again if we ever come back!

After climbing Yanmen Pass, we decided to go to Pingyao Ancient City on the spur of the moment. The inn we found on the road received 5-star reviews. We quickly booked the last room suitable for us. After booking, the boss called us and asked about our location. He also sent the parking lot location to the ancient city. No outside vehicles were allowed inside, so they drove to the city gate to pick us up. When we arrived at the inn, we first drew a map to tell us the location, interesting attractions, and delicious restaurants, so we wouldn’t step into any pitfalls! The room was clean and tidy. It was my first time to live in a Tukang, so I was worried about not getting used to it. The mat was made of latex and was very comfortable. I renewed my reservation for another night the next day. The boss is very down-to-earth, answers all questions and is very patient. I received local vinegar as a gift when I checked out and drove it to the city gate. It is recommended to stay here!

Really nice place, but as for most hotels, you cannot expect the staff to speak English (not a problem for me, but if you don't speak any Chinese be prepared). Location is great as it is around 2 minutes walk from 南大街/South Street and all the main museums and courtyards. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making time to explain all the places to see and were to eat. They can even help with good discounts, e.g. for the historical-themed performance '又见平遥'/Encore Pingyao as well as for restaurants. The hotel is in a beautiful traditional courtyard, very quiet area so you will sleep well at night. The room has traditional furniture, adding to the atmosphere, and while small (but good value for the price) was comfortable. The bed is a so-called 'kang' with heating - it was so comfortable in the cold winter that it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! Part of the floor has heating too. The cleanliness is good too. I would really recommend this place, very good atmosphere and with everything you need to be comfortable.

Environment: The room is generally OK, very close to the main street. Facilities: The bed is big, but the bathroom is a bit simple, because it is an old house, this is understandable. Service: The service is really good. When I checked in, the aunt gave me a map of the ancient city very considerately, and carefully guided the tour route. When I went out the next day, the uncle was also very enthusiastic to help with directions and took us to the bus station by eMule 😀

先説優點：他家位置非常好在古城賀蘭橋旁邊，距離市樓、南大街都非常近，老闆是年輕的夫妻倆，大哥負責接送遊客，而且在路上他還會講解古城歷史，介紹景點，用地圖描繪最佳遊覽順序，從他的言談中可以感受到他對家鄉的深愛。而且他家自己也賣醋賣酒，價格公道品質好。缺點是因為他家是在古城裡，所以房間有點小，但是小院子讓小姐姐收拾的很乾凈，用品很齊全，中桶礦泉水擺在院裏隨便取用，屋內是投影幕布，床品舒服，所以如果不介意房間面積的話，他家很是推薦！

I want to say that the service of this B&B is great. We checked in as a family, and the store owner came to pick us up and arranged our car in the free parking area. On the first day of our stay, the elder had a heat stroke, and the store owner was looking for medicine and help. I asked for help to find a doctor. I was really touched. The friend-like interactions these days have made us feel warmer. This is my second time in Pingyao. I will choose this B&B again in the future!

The location of the homestay is very good, not far from the east gate and south gate, the boss will provide pick-up service to the parking lot in advance. The whole homestay is an independent small courtyard. It is very quiet to fall asleep at night. Don't worry about the number of people outside the ancient city affecting sleep. The rooms are all characteristic earthworms. The house is very clean and clean. The disposable supplies are complete. There are also disposable bath towels and face towels. If you want to feel earthworms, you can choose a characteristic earthworm room. The boss will also provide a map of the ancient city, and help plan the route of the ancient city, and also mark the performance time intimately, which is convenient for sightseeing. There are restaurants and travel photography shops 20 meters away from the homestay, and it is very convenient to eat and travel photography. In the famous hotel in the ancient city of Dianping, the boss also has a membership card. You can discount the membership if you show it. The taste is quite good. Overall, this homestay is great, no thunder, it is recommended.
