The Ship Inn

Had a really enjoyable 4 night stay, quaint nautical themed room (cosy double) bed was very comfy, well stocked hospitality tray and room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was superb, lots of choice, freshly cooked and very tasty. Food a little on the pricey side but of excellent quality. Made to feel at home and everyone was very pleasant and accommodating. Now for the fly in the ointment ... the kitchens extractor fan. It's noisy, very very noisy and can be heard from both the front and back bedrooms. My room was at the front of the building and I could EVERYTHING going on in the kitchen, banging, swearing, men shouting as well as the constant droning of the fan which started at 8:00am and didn't stop until about 9:00pm. The fan acts like an amplifier projecting the sounds from the kitchens into the rooms & is very annoying especially at night. A very big design fault that needs sorting... Sorry...

We came for dinner on Christmas Day as a treat with my partners parents, and sadly left disappointed. The hotel seemed lovely-once we managed to find a parking space! There was nobody on reception so we had to wait at the very crowded bar to let them know we were there and be shown to our table. The restaurant was lovely and our order was taken quite quickly, and the starters were lovely. The main course was very disappointing though. We all went for the traditional turkey dinner, which took an age to arrive. We were told it was due to the kitchen being very busy-which I do understand but it was clearly all precooked and just had to be plated. The plate was mostly loaded with potato-mashed which was ok, boiled which in my opinion doesnt belong on a roast dinner, then roasties which we could’ve played hockey with as they were so hard. The turkey was also very dry, so much so most of mine was barely edible. Vegetables were plentiful and well cooked though, except the parsnips which like the roasties were dry and hard. 3 of the 4 desserts we chose had run out, but what we did have were ok. Overall it was ok, but not worth anywhere near the price. I appreciate you pay a premium for a Christmas day meal but it was disappointing. Sad to say we won’t be back.

The beautiful old house was in impeccable condition. Our bedroom overlooking the garden and fields was large and airy. The bed was bigger than kingsize and incredibly comfy! Two comfy chairs were also very luxurious to read the newspaper in after a busy day of sightseeing! Fresh and again, large bathroom, too!! The breakfast menu had everything on it from full english to scrambled eggs and salmon! Plus fresh fruit, juices galore. Plus a bowl of fruit filled every day in the bedroom! All beautifully presented by a charming and helpful hostess! Couldnt fault our stay!
