Nikko Kanaya Hotel

I'm glad we were able to stay at the coveted Kanaya Hotel. The hotel's interior and the service from the hotel staff were excellent. The hotel staff provided a tour of the hotel, explaining the hotel's history and features, as well as the famous people who have stayed there. We were able to once again appreciate just how wonderful the hotel is. It will be a lifelong memory for my husband and I. We hope to come and stay here again someday.

I was able to spend a very comfortable time in the room with a great view from the annex. The breakfast was delicious and I would like to have dinner there next time.

The first hotel in Japan that can accommodate foreigners, the overall layout is particularly historical, and the room door is opened with a physical key. It is recommended to take a taxi or the hotel car to arrive. There is a very steep uphill slope in front of the hotel.

Great hotel with a lot of history. Delicious breakfast too. Location is practical and there is a shuttle service (free) to the train station. The rooms in the main building are a bit dated, but that is logical. They are spacious and comfortable.

Last September, I had dinner at Nikko Jingu and had a good impression. This time, I booked a newly renovated room in the new building with breakfast and dinner. The room is 31 square meters, with high ceilings, facing the sun, and has a large space. The decoration style is elegant and retro. The room has two defects: one is the noise. The air conditioner is loud, the windows are not soundproof at all, and the traffic outside is very loud. I have to wear earplugs or Apple earplugs to listen to music in the room, otherwise I can't fall asleep and stay in the room. The second is that the shower stands in the bathtub, and there is a small dirty piece of the shower curtain. This restaurant does not have a large bathroom, so you can only take a shower in the room. The window leaks a little light. The crab cakes and Jingu-style boiled fish for dinner are very unpalatable, and the ice cream in the dessert is very good. In terms of service, some of the restaurant waiters are excellent and some are average. They leave without saying goodbye. The quality of food and service is not as good as the low-priced Chuzenji Jingu. I observed that there are only 3 rooms in the new building that are not noisy, but there is a row of rooms near the courtyard in the main building. The location can walk to the temples of Shinkyo and Toshogu. There is a shuttle bus, see Figure 1. Jingu is a long-established hotel. I hope it will get better and better. I will stay here again when I come to Nikko.

It's a historic hotel with a nice atmosphere. However, perhaps due to a lack of staff or efficient management, the service density was low and the aging of the facilities was noticeable. ・Perhaps they couldn't secure employees, so breakfast started late at 7:30. As a result, customers were concentrated in a short period of time, and the following points were not met satisfactorily. ・Even when I ordered coffee at breakfast, it took a long time to bring it, perhaps because it was a different person. I had to ask three times before it finally came. The waiters and waitresses were all busy, and even when I tried to call them, they wouldn't make eye contact with the customers. ・*The service was inconsistent, with some tables having ketchup for cooking and others not. ・If you stay for more than two nights, cleaning and replenishment of amenities are generally not provided. (They will do it if you ask.) ・The window in the room was rusty and wouldn't open. The emergency exit was also rusty and could only be opened with a man's considerable strength. ・Perhaps it was a cheap room, but the view from the window was not good.・The Craft Lounge was closed, but I think it would be fine if it was open during peak seasons. When facilities are closed, the inside of the building looks deserted, like a shopping street with shuttered shops.

Although the hotel is old, the service staff are very nice, the breakfast is very rich, and the view outside the window is superb.
