Garrison Inn Boutique Hotel

Idk where to start… yes I do! Location was perfection. We walked everywhere from water to ice cream to thrift store. Hospitality is next and how wonderful it was. From fresh made to order breakfast to wonderful conversation at the front desk, I had everything I needed. PLUS, they mailed my forgotten bathing suite! Above and beyond service. Now my room was luxurious. New bathroom and my king size bed was so comfy. We had meetings in the cool basement, where we did talk about the fact that it was supposedly ******* which one of coworkers LOVED and told us all about the history!!! lol. Great place. Great people. Home away from luxurious home.

Rooms are not as advertised online. Lighting is dark and broken lights on stairs. Carpet is dirty and tv is tiny. I do not recommend this hotel and when contacted management never got back to me and was not willing to address the situation and even sent a rude email.

A historic centrally located property in Newburyport. All attractions, drinking and dining in the town are an easy walking distance. Accommodations were decorated in keeping with the period represented and were adequate but not on par with similar properties advertised as boutique. A staff member came across abrasive to a simple guest inquiry but maybe they were just having a bad day or maybe they’re are just not many other hotel options inside the town.

Quaint, cute but careworn and overpriced, even if the location is excellent. When we arrived at the hotel there was no-one at the front desk and no other staff anywhere. After about 10 minutes someone showed up. The hotel has character but this is far from a luxury experience. The bathroom was in need of renovation, the towels were tiny and while the bed was comfortable the pillows were poor. When we asked if the room could be cleaned we were told not now as housekeeping is outsourced! And we are still wondering why we were charged an extra $25 given that we vacated the room and returned the keys half an hour before checkout time.

My husband and I stayed August 2023. From the moment we walked in, I wished we hadn’t chosen this place. We never felt welcome from the moment we stepped in the lobby to check in. And each time we came back from exploring the area and entered the lobby, although staff was sitting right at the reception desk and made eye contact , they never even acknowledged us. We found it odd they couldn’t even take the time to say “hello or hope you had a nice day”. We travel a lot and never have experienced such rude and unwelcoming hotel staff. I must add that there was one individual that was incredibly nice. I wish I got her name. She brought us clean towels one day and also provided us with new room keys when we changed rooms. (I will explain in a bit) . This hotel has an “old antique” smell as soon as you enter the lobby. It is not a warm and pleasant place to sit or hang out while waiting in room to get ready. The bathrooms are not located in the lobby area but down in the very creepy basement . We stayed in the penthouse (as they call it) room 408. I do NOT recommend. As I mentioned the hotel has an odd feel to it. I had a sense of “creepy” the first day we were there. The door locks are a push button like you would have for a closet or bedroom door. Certainly not hotel quality. This odd feeling escalated at around 2AM when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder and said “hey”. Luckily, My husband heard it as well so he knew I wasn’t crazy. The next day my husband explained what happened during the night and asked to be moved to another room Or we would be leaving that day. There was another vacant room that we were moved to that had a much better feel. We didn’t sleep much as the bed was very uncomfortable and was very low to the floor. We noticed that there was a film crew there on day 2 (not sure what was being filmed) and the day we checked out, a notice was posted that there would be no breakfast served that morning. No price adjustment on room, just no breakfast. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone (unless they wanted to experience room 408’s creepiness) I for one will be happy not to ever have that feeling again.

Cute pink room and tea room - unique boutique classy historic hotel and charming. Room was urban/modern comfortable. We didn't have breakfast but looked delicious and would stay at this hotel again.
