Sandals Montego Bay All Inclusive - Couples Only

This was our 4th visit to a Sandals property and the first time in Jamaica. We have traveled all over the world staying in many all inclusive resorts, which would be one of our preferred way to holiday. We loved Jamaica, its people and the beaches. The island is beautiful and there is a few sites to see, not too far from the property. We picked Montego Bay as we have to travel for 24 hours to get there and wanted to be close to the airport and not have a long transfer. We also heard it was more livery than other resorts. We went for Christmas and NY. The celebrations for both were great! Santa arrived on Christmas Day which was great fun. New Years Eve celebrations were also good fun. We were very disappointed there was not something better food wise. We ate in oleanders and it was just ok. There was a lovely buffet on in Bayside but there wasn’t no communication to tell us this or we would have gone there. We had been to St Lucia for NY and the gala dinner they put on was amazing. I feel that things are really being scaled down and not as luxurious. We stayed in a swim-up beach front room at the end of the property which was amazing. I loved the pool!!! I smelled of chlorine the whole time as I was never out of it. 😊 The entertainment staff were brilliant. A huge big shout out to Tasha (my karaoke queen), Kev and Queen Tangerine. The DJs were brilliant and we loved Jordan the saxophonist. The shows were all great. We love getting involved in all the activities. A bit disappointed that there weren’t more quizzes etc during the day. I think there might have been more but there is a bit of lack of communication/information concerning these. The app wasn’t saying the same as the board in the main lobby. I put this down to Christmas and it being a changed schedule. The steel band was amazing. The food was disappointing. It wasn’t great. We never once said “wow, that was amazing” apart from the Indian restaurant in sandals royal. The menu for NY was nice in Oleander but my food was freezing when it came out. We did not like Cucina Romana. The lasagne was like a TV dinner. Butches was very disappointing. This is not a steak house! We didn’t bother going back. We did have a booking but there was an hour wait so we left. I would highly recommend taking your own drinks into most of the restaurants as the service is very slow!! One lunch, I’d finished my lunch and still hadn’t had a drink. My hubby got up to get me some water (after trying to attract attention and failing) and Garfield (Bayside) jumped up to help him. Garfield is amazing! He works very hard! We had stayed in Grenada two years ago and the service was amazing. They never stopped topping up your wine glass. That never happened once here. We just got up and got our own drinks. Allya (Bayside) is also brilliant. I loved her little wave to say goodbye each time a plane left. We loved the airport noise and seeing all the flights. It lasts about 10 seconds per plane and is not annoying.

We have stayed nearly a week in the holiday inn resort montego bay in jamaica and we were very happy when we left. First of all, we has to say, the resort itself has a very very beautiful beach, calm ocean, what is good for kids, and the gardens/surroundings are nice as well. So we give it the 2 points. But that is almost all what is good about this place. Here is a list of things we did not like about our stay: - Before our arrival we emailed to the resort a few times (about 3 weeks before arrival date) because we had some questions about our stay, all our emails remained unresponded - upon arrival nobody welcome me as IHG diamond member - upon arrival i did not received my IHG welcome points, i had to asked 2, 3 times the following days - Upon check in we got a room, what was told to us, it would be a room upgrade. The room was horrible and we did not like the view. So we asked for another room (by phone). We were told, a bellman will come and pick our lagguage and bring us to another room. But the bellman did never appear, so we had after 12hrs. of flight, with 2 small kids, to carry our things by ourselves back to reception - after beeing in new room, we could not close the balcony door, it was broken, the maintenance we had to call twice until finally somebody came - there is a safe in room but no instruction, we had again to call some technician to explain this to us - there is a huge fridge in room, but no possibility of bringing drinks to room, only by purchase from store, what is non sense in an all inclusive resort - we got told upon check in, we can use vip club for eat and drink, when we arrived there, they told us, kids are not allowed in there, so we had to search another place to eat, nobody inform us about that policy, we were tired and just want to eat sth fast. by the way at this time we were only guest in that vip club, who would we bother then? - many times in restaurant the soft drink machine runs out of all soft drinks, so we has to drink from 1,5L plastic bottles and share them also with other guests. Assistant manager told us, it is because they ran out of Co2 so they are not able to run the soda machines. Surprisingly the soda machines worked few steps away from the restaurant, at barefoot (pool bar). - For drinks everywhere (also at lunch and dinner) they use old looking plastic cups. The plastic cups they wash so quickly, they still smell from other customers, awful. Not hygienic. - staff who deal with food in restaurant or at the bars are not wearing any gloves, they touch dishes or sometimes also food directly with bare hands, very unhygenic!!! (see picture) - some food you see every day, it looks like from 3 days ago and just heated up. It is like „for the guests just the rests“ theme - there are all day and evening some plates from other guest with remaining food in the hallway, very unhygenic and looking not very tasty (see pictures) - all corridors are also full of sacks with used blankets, feels
Breathless Montego Bay

This establishment has a serious issue with damp and mould. As soon as we were taken to our room you could smell the damp in the corridors and the smell only became stronger once we arrived to our room. The rooms were run down and there were mismatched patches of white paint all over the ceiling where they had painted to cover the mould over a period of time but the white wasn’t the same shade. We noticed there were large patches of mould in the corridors that we witnessed being painted over. We could see rooms being painted before guests arrival, all covering the mould. After 2 days we started to get sick. We had headaches, sore throats and were coughing. I went to reception to complain and there was a large group there also requesting to be moved because of the mould. We were offered another room but this also had the same issue, you could see the wood in the rooms were wet. The cleanliness wasn’t great either, the shower glass looked like it had never been cleaned and was heavily stained. I would never, ever stay here again.
