The Palms Resort of Mazatlan

Zona Dorada
I stayed at The Palms for 7 nights in early November. I have stayed here many times over the years, at least 15 times. I have always given good reviews of my stays. The recent sale of the hotel has brought some changes, not all of them good. They have changed out the lobby furniture, more informal, less classy. The addition of the Panama Restaurant has brought many more people to the property, many who are not staying there. Good for the hotel I'm sure but more crowded for guests seeking tables at the outside restaurant, etc. But my biggest disappointment was that they hosted a wedding on property at the pool that went to 11 o'clock. With live music blaring into everyone's room! I thought the band was done until the wedding party brought up a banda group for the last hour from the beach. I'm sure it was pre-arranged. Oh brother. I can't believe the hotel management thought so little of its guests to allow this kind of noise late into the night. There was no way to sleep during this event in my opinion. I should have complained to the management but did not and that is my fault for not doing so. Maybe they would have given me some consideration on a future stay. I usually stay on weeknights only and this just reinforces that weekends are not for me at The Palms.
Varali Grand Hotel

Malecon de Mazatlan
Stayed 5 nights. The hotel is modern, about a year old, has a good location in the Zona Dorada. In front of the Malecón/boardwalk and the ocean. We had a room with balcony and views of the ocean. Nice Infiniti pool and delicious breakfast. Chambermaids were super friendly and wonderful. Stephanie, at reception, was the best and most accommodating. Comfortable rooms and mattress. Now, the neagatives... 1- Some of the staff, at the restaurant, was not very friendly, except the only lady waitress, who was very friendly and serviceable. 2- There was an extremely loud private party, on Saturday night, at the rooftop. Unfortunately, we were on the 7 th floor, just below the party. The music was EXTREMELY LOUD. The bass made our room vibrate. Even with ear plugs, we could not sleep. Of course, I complained, several times. They offered to move us to a lower floor. No way, Jose!. We had already unpacked for a our five night stay. The party was supposed to end at 12 midnight. It enredadera @ 1:30 am. Unacceptable and NIGHTMARERISH!. 3- There are no chairs in the balcony. You go to the pool as there is no place to hang and dry your bathing suits. 4- Although they provide a coffee maker in the room, they leave complimentary coffee, the first day. After, you have to pay for it. Does not make any sense to us. 5- The same with bottle water. Complimentary on the first night. Then, you are on your own. You pay the same hotel fee every night. Provide coffee and water nightly. Get your act together. You will still get the local tourist but FORGET about guests from foreign countries.

I highly recommend El Cid Vacation Club for your families Vacation destination. Alejandra, Daniela, Veronica, and Verenice at the club elite made sure that our every need was met. The rooms at El Moro are spacious and clean. There is a large variety of restaurants to choose from. They have a wonderful theme show and buffet style dinner each night. If you love fine dining, then I recommend casa del club for a wonderful steak dinner. The location is close to the Golden zone and minutes away from the Malecon and Plaza Machado. You will surely love the culture and enjoy the friendly atmosphere here at El Cid.

First, let me say the staff here are what makes this hotel ! Truly wonderful service from the bartenders Felipe and Luis Hector, waiters like Williams, Jose Gerardo, Caesar Gonzalez and others. they all made our stay here a great one! They always went above and beyond! The food/buffet was good, we always found something we enjoyed, although as other posters noted weiners/hotdogs are a mainstay at breakfast, lunch and dinner! Our ocean view room was nice, beds were good, air conditioning worked, nice balcony ( no balconies at all on street view rooms) There was a very strong sewer odor in the room throughout our stay, I think from the bathroom drain, and the shower was HOT all the time, impossible to get any cool water, even at the sink. Even the water in the toilet was hot! That was strange! WiFi works well in rooms and even on the beach. They tell you at the front desk that you can only have the wifi on two devices per room, but we had it on 5, no issues during the whole two weeks. The hotel itself however needs improvement in many areas ! If you are looking for a quiet vacation spot this is not the place for you . The “BANDA” roaming the beach in groups of 6-9 with trumpets , tubas and drums from noon till about 6:30 p.m. (or later) destroys the atmosphere totally as they all use amplifiers to compete with each other in making the loudest racket possible. All the ocean view rooms are above the pool area and the noise making from there carries on until midnite or 2 a.m. most evenings. The beach chairs are all in very poor condition, many broken ones they still keep putting out every day, and quite uncomfortable. Covered in bird poop (never cleaned) and if you leave your chair for a few minutes there will likely be fresh poop on your towel when you get back. The hotel does nothing about the bird problem, there are hundreds, and poop is on everything. The beach itself is nice but not very clean, garbage and cigarette butts all over in the sand and not cleaned by hotel staff other than a bit of raking around 9 a.m. ish. The hotel is not “senior friendly “ with a lot of steps/stairs to navigate , even in the buffet and around the pool, need to be extremely careful not to trip and fall! The hotel is mainly used by Mexican families, lots of kids, very very few English speaking people at all. Staff here speak very little English, even the concierge at the Information desk - no English at all, not one word! Only a couple of the staff at the front desk speak a few words of English, they try to be helpful, but it can be difficult. We made the best of everything and enjoyed our stay, but not likely to chose this hotel in future. Star palace hotel, pacific palace, Luna palace are all sort of connected and they say you can use facilities in others too, but pacific palace is rooms only, star palace exact same buffet, we didn’t go into Luna palace so not sure there. Nightly shows are kinda non-existent. Never found one, no info.
