We spent a pleasant 2 nights in Tabino Lit Matsumoto. Special thanks to staff Yumiko, who was super helpful (she took initiative to fix my split soles that gave way suddenly), speaks good English, gives good advice on local information. Tabino hotel is fortunate to have such great staff. Breakfast was good with lots of healthy vegetables, Public bath was relaxing and not crowded during our stay.
The service at this hotel is excellent. From the concierge to front desk. Location is near Matsumoto station. I was directed to a multi storey hotel parking at the back of the hotel. It cost 1100 yen per day (multiple entry per day). Just exchange your parking ticket with the reception . They settle the parking fees when you check out.
The hotel is rather old. Looks like you entered the 1980s zone. Rooms are renovated to some extend but I could see the wear and tear. Housekeeping a bit sloppy as the window bay area was dusty when we checked in and there was a musky smell esp the bathroom.
The facilities in an old hot spring hotel are a bit outdated, and the waiters are all elderly and can only use translation software to communicate.
The size of the small suite is okay. The Japanese tatami is too hard to sleep on. There are not many public baths, but they are very hot. The most amazing thing is the private bath on the 6th floor. No reservation is required. It is first come first served. You can see the city view and the distance. Mountain

Lived the best hotel in Japan. The place is small, but the layout is exquisite. Careful staff service. Carry your luggage to the room and explain each dish of dinner carefully. Indoor hot springs are arranged for men and women to change the hot spring room. Try two different arrangements. Dinner and breakfast are super good. The room was also very clean and comfortable. Especially recommended.
I had a wonderful experience here at Cafe&Stay Castana. The room was clean and comfortable, a great find at this price! The location is great with a free parking lot available, and with a huge supermarket conveniently located beside. However, I have to especially commend the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating to our needs! As you know, sometimes travellers are disoriented and stressed, and their willingness to help is deeply appreciated. I also had to ask for directions to a doctor as I fell sick, and they went above and beyond to take care of me. I could have only experienced this humanity at a small enterprise like this, and am very grateful.

It seems like it has recently been renovated, so some of the basic parts are still old, but it was well-maintained and the facility was clean. I think the meals were well-balanced without being too heavy on meat.
The bath is said to come from a hot spring source, but it was so hot that I had to be careful to get into it. However, I think the power of the hot springs is that I was able to stay in light clothes until the morning without getting cold. If the changing room is dark, you will not feel safe, so I think it would be better if it was a little brighter.
I think the distance between the staff was just right, but since my luggage was heavy, I wish I had an elevator.

Outstanding
AAttattzzExcellent new hotel, very well furnished and decorated rooms. Shoes off as soon as you enter the hotel. They even have a cleaning machine at the entrance to clean the wheels of your luggage. Nice onsen, though a little small. Free popsicles and ramen for supper. Very close to Matsumoto Train station.
KKunyingExcellent location, just a 5-minute walk from Matsumoto Station! Spotlessly clean and surprisingly spacious room for Japan. The free simple supper (ramen or croffle ice cream) was a nice touch. Breakfast was a highlight—delicious with a huge variety of options. Highly recommend this hotel for its convenience and value.
IInstandyFukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!
GGuest UserMy return visit to the hotel as it was a very convenient place for short stay before venturing to the alpine hiking trails. This time, I managed to enjoy the natural Onsen at another hotel, which was free. It included free transport transferr and towel.
DDarrenPretty nice hotel at a convenient location (only 6 minutes walking from Matsumoto station). Amenities are aplenty, with ample washing machines/dryers and hot springs, sauna and cold pools. Free ice cream during the afternoon/night and yakult in the morning are plus points. Complimentary hot ramen at night is great as well. Many places to eat after hours nearby. Also comes with free mango pudding upon arrival in the fridge, which is nice.
Nice place to stay if you are planning to go to Kamikochi or just go around Matsumoto yourself or with loved ones.
EElaineVery convenient location a stone throw away from the castle. The parking space is scarce. You may need to park abit further if the nearest ones are taken. Otherwise very comfortable stay with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was pretty good too.
JJia YenVery near to train station and breakfast spread was good and decent. Room was standard size small though this is common in japan. Staff are helpful.
ししょうちゃん0501About 10 minutes from Matsumoto Station, the parking lot where I rented a car was 1000 yen a day, so I was able to go in and out early in the morning. The windows couldn't be opened due to construction work, so the air was stagnant. The refrigerator is turned on with a table tap on top of the refrigerator, but it was set to the highest setting, and the next day all my drinks froze, so I found the dial to set it and turned it to about half, but it still seemed to freeze. It may just be my imagination, but overall there were few problems, so if this is the only place I can stay next time, I'd be happy to stay. It would be even better if it was closer to the station.
LLiI really like the ryokan, even though the bath is shared, there are no problem with using it. Everything is super clean. The only downside is that because the wall is super thin, if you encounter noisy guests at the hotel, it could get really loud. I had to ask a family to quiet down a bit after 12am, because they had a kid that was making commotions. But other than that I actually really enjoy the room (and it’s really the cheapest option in the area)
HHuiruAlthough it is a little far from JR station and about 10 minutes walk, the quiet alley is very quiet. There is #soupの Huayi Tang Ruixiang Matsumoto Hall nearby. The hotel provides uninformed food and 3 bicycles to borrow, which is in line with my needs. In the morning, the sun and the sun, I rode a bicycle to Matsumoto City and Matsumoto Museum and Art Museum, which was very beautiful.
