Unusual accommodation where it is easy to self-cater. This happened to suit us perfectly. My husband was undergoing daily radiotherapy and chemotherapy for five weeks. When we were still staying in our own home, this meant an 85 mile round trip each day. So we decided for the last two weeks to stay in Lincoln for four nights both weeks. First room we had was room 5 - spacious double en-suite on the first floor. Faced the main road, so quite a bit of traffic noise. Second week, we were in room 2, having requested a ground floor room. Again, spacious double with en-suite. Again, faced main road but we were more aware of traffic noise, as there was no double glazing in this room. Earplugs were provided! The fridges in the rooms were very useful, amply stocked for breakfasts, but still enough room for microwave meals. During our stay, the heating in our room failed, but this was speedily remedied. It is easy to contact management for help, on the number provided. Free Wi-Fi, and cable tv. Spotlessly clean, modern kitchen, with three ovens and hobs, plus two microwaves. Basic crockery and cutlery provided, but no cooking equipment. Take your own microwave dishes if you want to use your breakfast baked beans? Bathroom heated towel rails can get very hot, and are right next to the toilets, so worth being careful to avoid burns! But towels dried quickly. Very good value for money. Not luxury, but not luxury prices!

Stayed for 4 nights whilst we explored and enjoyed Lincoln and the surrounding area. The room was spacious and well furnished. Linen was perfect. As someone who prefers a firm bed, I was quite happy with the mattress on the bed. The bathroom was tidy and well appointed, nothing to complain about. Just a little disappointed that there was no actual window to enjoy. Had no problem with air conditioning, although I'm not a fan of not having a choice. We stayed on a half-board basis and the food was absolutely fine. Not everything was exactly my choice, but it was perfectly acceptable. More importantly, was the response of the staff. From the General Manager down, and I chatted with him without knowing who he was, everyone was absolutely lovely. Jane, the lady who served us at breakfast each morning and Tom, who took care of us in the evening, were real examples of what good service is all about, and although I didn't catch everybody's name, all the staff were great. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

Firstly I would like to praise the staff in this hotel. We were there as a family for a funeral and the staff were so accommodating, helpful and friendly, going out of their way to make sure we were all fixed up with room arrangements. Shoutout to Rob the night porter who put up with us later in the evening when we hijacked the bar with most of our relatives also. The hotel is apparently an old hospital with the rooms being used previously for nurses. They were quaint and olde world with huge beds and super big bathrooms. Some rooms could maybe do with a lick of paint but they had everything we needed and the location was perfect , right next to the castle and a few minutes from the amazing cathedral. The Stokes cafe/restaurant across the way is all connected to the hotel and you can have a 10% voucher from the hotel reception if you wish to use it. Lovely coffee and food there. Very lucky to book this as it was graduation week in Lincoln, so glad we were successful.

We'd booked a table at the restaurant with friends and decided we'd stay over. Booked well in advance. Now the room was nothing to sniff at. It was neat and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The fan however was about as much use as an asthmatic ant blowing through a straw, this didn't help on one of the hottest days of the year. That's where the good ends. When we checked in we were behind a couple who were a little older than ourselves and had a stellar service from the reception man. He asked if there was anything he could do, he asked if he could book them a table at the restaurant, and he asked if they needed a taxi anywhere, he was genuinely awesome and courteous. Our turn to check in arrives. We're a professional couple in our early 40's and our friends behind us are the same. As soon as we got to the desk the smiles faded and the friendly demeanour disappeared. He kept on informing us that he needed the card details of the card we booked with in case we 'trashed' the room. He mentioned this over and over again must have been close to 10 times and he kept saying that it was because he's had trouble with groups before and he wanted to be able to charge us for any damage! He also said it's because the price of the room (that we had pre-booked) may go up overnight, we'd never heard of this before and protested this quirk but he wasn't in the mood to chat about it. He never told us about the hotel. Never asked if we wanted a table at the restaurant. Never even asked if we were OK. Horrendous service. Come the morning, Leanne was on duty. She was a breath of fresh air. She was mortified at our treatment and promptly gave us all the information we needed to complain, she was kind, courteous and frankly everything that the chap the night before wasn't. Just because a group walks in, it does not mean we are trouble. We were pre-judged and made to feel lower than second class which for a group of medical professional friends enjoying a reunion was frankly appalling. ** UPDATE ** We highlighted all of our issues to the member of Leanne in the morning who said when we were able, to make a written complaint but that she would deal with it personally. Email sent to Damons head office for the complaint. The reply from Stuart Carey who is apparently a Director of the company is frankly appalling, dismissive and rude. He mentions that a complaint should be sent promptly and that complaints that aren't, are not taken seriously. We emailed 4 working days after our stay as we were on holiday and believed it was being handled by the lady we spoke to. His email goes as far to say that myself and my group are nothing short of liars and that because it was not dealt with at the time they aren't too bothered about it. Steer well clear of this place.

Found this little gem and so glad we did. Our room was lovely, a good size, nicely decorated and a very comfy bed. Big bathroom with a great shower and plenty of towels. Everything was spotlessly clean. Parking the car was easy (and free), the staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. The pub itself is brilliant, some proper characters in there and very good prices in the bar; I actually asked the barman if he’d charged us enough on our first round as it was very cheap! It’s about 15 minutes walk into town or £6.50 in a taxi. All in all, a brilliant stay and if visiting Lincoln again would definitely consider it.
